I have stayed at POR several times now and have come to love this resort. With all of the closings and cutbacks, DH and I were hesitant to book POR again for this Oct so we booked CBR instead.

For anyone who has recently stayed at POR, how was it? Was the food court at 100% operation? Boats to Downtown still running? Any details would be appreciated. DH and I would like to switch to POR but need some reassurance that things are getting back to normal there.

Thanks guys!!

Bumping this so it doesn't get lost...

My sister just came back from POR for the fourth year in a row, she wouldn't stay anywhere else....To give you an idea of how much she loves this resort, they've named their dog "Dixie". She would love to answer your questions! I'll e-mail her now..

just got home yesterday from POR the resort was at 100% capacity and FQ is reopening 5/31

Visited POR last weekend. Food court is completely reopened. Boat to Downtown Disney is up and running. Resort was very full - people riding bikes, food court busy, store busy, lots of folks checking in and out. A great sight indeed!

Do any of you happen to know if POR rooms have coffee makers? Can we request one or will it come standard?

Dixiegirl, as my sister said, we just returned from POR. I'd love to answer any of your questions because talking about this resort and DW is my favorite thing to do!!! Everything was perfect here. The landscaping was beautiful as always, the pools were great and we visited often, especially the jacuzzi, oh how relaxing that was. The best part was the newly renovated boat to DD! It has new paint and new benches inside, a great ride, oh and brand new speakers so you can hear the captain perfectly now. Also, Bob Jackson is returning (found out on this board) on May 23. I've never had the opportunity to stop and sit for his show (always too busy), but we plan on doing so on the next trip. Service was excellent, always right there with towels etc. We used the food court alot. Nothing has changed here, all the same good food. I think thats it. Any more questions let me know! :)

Thanks to all of you who so quickly answered my questions. I called and switched over to Dixie (just can't call it POR) this afternoon. You guys are the best.

Another question about coffee makers....

Do they supply the coffee, as well, when you request the coffee maker, or do you need to supply your own?

Thanks

Marjie

Hi Jillpie: We visited the food court at dixie landings last week and really enjoyed the food offerings, we have stayed in the mansions in 90, can you tell me did you stay in the bayou rooms, or the mansions, and how would you judge the quality of the rooms, I know the cbr has been recently renovated but wondering about dixie, or port orleans riverside.

Deb.

Cottontail, someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I am pretty certain that the rooms in the mansions are identical to the bayou rooms, with one exception. The bayou rooms have trundle beds for the 5th person. Thats it!

The decor is a bit different but they are identical in size and basically the same as far as furnishings except for the trundle bed.

When we were there in Dec they did not supply coffee or filters. You needed to bring your own. I'm not sure if they have them if you request but for some reason I don't think so. My parents always bring their own coffee -- they are picky.

You can also request an iron, ironing board and hair dryer. They aren't in the room but available for your stay.

So glad to hear this!!! We'll be returning to the land of Dixie this summer...after giving the YC and CBR a try the past two summers. I feel like I'm going home!!!:D

This is our first time staying in a moderate resort, how would you compare the service at Dixie (:)) to the service at the Deluxe resorts?

For instances, it's my 30th birthday during our stay, do you think they will do anything? The other resorts sent us items (chocolate covered strawberries, champagne) on our anniversaries in the past. I'm wondering if that was just because we were at a deluxe resort?

I'm praying the bus transportation will run smooth - first time busing it! Any comments or suggestions for us first timers. DH is a boat and monorail snob!!:D

I'm not sure if they will do anything for your 30th birthday or not. They do not have the same resources as the deluxe hotels.

That being said, this is what I have found out about the service. When you pull up they have bellman standing right there ready to assist you with luggage - whether you are driving or use some other type of transportation. They immediately take your bags, give you a claim and direct you to the front desk. One entering you may have to stand in line to check in. I don't think it is any different at the deluxe unless you are in concierge. The CM as the desk has always been very helpful. Explained things about the hotel, if not satisfied with the room, tried to find another, etc. They will give you a map, point you in the direction of the room and then have you call the bell station when you arrive to deliver the luggage. Typically takes about 15-20 minutes to deliver luggage - depending. Those delivering luggage always ask where you would like it and then again, say, can I answer any questions you might have now.

The lifeguards have always been very friendly along with the food court staff. When I've asked for something from housekeeping they were always right there to deliver it to my room. We requested coffee pot, hair dryer, iron and ironing board -- delivered within 1/2 hour of arrival.

Bar tenders very friendly and chatty. Service is fairly quick. Food court is a food court. Although I've found the people to be friendly, too.

Housekeeping will clean your room before a certain time if you call and request. Will also do a late cleaning if that is what you want. Housekeepers have typically been pretty good -- although I am specific as to what I want done -- sheets changed, carpet vacumned, etc. I request it right up front and then they are usually pretty good about it. Last trip we always had a zoo of towel animals on our return.

Overall, we have had pretty good service from the moderates. We have had specific instances...when we complained they were handled promptly and to our satisfaction. Bob in the piano bar is also very good along with the service there. Haven't eaten at the restaurant so can't answer that.

Bus transportation has been good the 8 times we were there except isolated instances. Again, a quick call to the bus area to talk with a supervisor and things seemed to get back on track quickly. Seldom waited more than 10 minutes or so for a bus except when at the park ... then in slow afternoon may have waited 15 minutes or so...depending on the timing of when we got there.

Hi PO/Riverside fans.

We just returned on Sunday from a 4 night stay at Riverside.
We stayed in Magnolia Terrace, and loved it! We walked to the main bus stop each morning, and never had a long wait for a bus. (Sometimes the bus would be full though, and not stop at the other stops). But, in the evening, we stayed on the bus, and got off at the third stop, (East Depot) which dropped us right at our door. What a relief for tired feet.

Our room was clean, and smelled great, NO SMOKING!
We left a $5.00 tip the first day for housekeeping, and asked for some extra soap. and came back that night to 12 bars of soap and 7 shampoos!! Same thing the next day, along with washcloth ducks!!

We asked for a hairdryer, coffee pot, (they said would have sent coffee, but I had our own), and extra pillows. These all came in less than 30 minutes.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to Email or ask here.

Marjie

My daughter and I celebrated both our birthdays when we stayed at DXL in 12/98. They sent my daughter a birthday card but I don't think they did anything for me.
