Who has been on Star Tours??

I had originally marked this off of our list for my DS, age 7. I thought from reading about it that it would be too intense for him. But when he saw that it was about Star Wars, he said he would love it!!?? For those of you that have done Star Tours with kids, how was it?? Is it scary or only for those really brave kids??? He has refused to ride Pirates, says it would be too scary. In general, fire and some darkness scares him, but he loves speed and roller coasters. Where does Star Tours fall???

I don't have kids so I am not sure about the kid-scare-factor for Star Tours, but the ride is a simulator. The premise is that you are in a space ship/shuttle on a trip to Endor. R2D2 is co-pilot. C3PO and Chewbacca also make appearances. There are a lot of high speed manuvers through asteroids and comets and the shuttle becomes part of a battle with the empire. I would put it in the category of a highspeed video game. The thing that gets mosts people is motion sickness because of how your brain reacts to the manuvers on the screen at the front of the shuttle. The Star Wars aspect may override the fear factor. It's not scary at all! In fact, it's very amusing.

It's a flight simulator with a video screen so there ewill be some rocking and rolling but you don't go anywhere. Except, of course, to the moon of Endor, with a few detours.

He'll love it, and you will too!

I don't think it's that bad. It's not too dark & it's almost like one of those video games they have in arcades where you sit in a chair that moves.

It's a simulator that takes you through the Star Wars world. Your "pilot" is a cute little robot and he might also override the scare factor.

There are a few scenes where you almost crash that might be a little scary. But the actual motion is not that bad, a little jerky but that's all.

Star Tours is not scary, IMHO. It's just plain fun. I think your 7yo would love it!! All my kids think it's a blast and a must do on every trip. I think it would fall more on the speed side of your categories. If your son really wants to do it and if he's tall enough, I say go for it!!

I took my not-so-adventurous son on when he was 4. It is basically one of those rides where there are several rows of seats with a small movie screen in the front. The seats jiggle and move along with the scenes of the movie. My son was at first a little taken back but once he realized he wasn't going to fall out of his seat he was fine. I think a 7 year old who enjoys roller coasters will like it.

My opinion is that he will love it. Sounds like the "anticipation factor" is what scares him away from PotC more than anything else. My siblings and I rode Star Tours as soon as we were big enough and we all loved it! It's a little intense with the jerking but IMO not scary, especially for a child who loves Star Wars! Just emphasize to him that he'll be in the middle of a Star Wars adventure and he might have to do some fancy flying, LOL, and maybe he will enjoy the idea of being part of the fantasy more than he fears the ride. My DD7, who is also afraid of Pirates as well as roller coasters and Splash Mountain, absolutely loves Star Tours. It sounds like your DS is braver than my DD, so he will probably love it too!

My son was 7 on our first trip, and Star Tours was quickly at the top of his favorite ride list! My dd finally rode it last year at 8, she is a big chicken, and when she got off she couldn't wait to go again.

How busy does Star Tours get firt thing in the morning? From what I have read TOT and RNR are the biggest draws. My sons, 6 & 8 are big time star wars fans and I am just curious if we head right to Star Tours will they be able to get in multiple rides before the crowds get too big. We are going in the last week in August.

My 16 year old "sissy" daughter who will not ride any "Mountains", TOT or RR has loved Star Tours since she was 4. Same with Body Wars. Your son should have no problem.

My boys are Star Wars fanatics..they've been riding Star Tours since they were about 5 years old!! It's a fun "ride" -- it's a must do for us on every trip.

Just beware...it does empty out into a Star Wars gift shop!! LOL!

My son rode it when he just turned 5 and he LOVED it. It is on his must do list for our trip this summer.

Last Sept my DS4 wanted to ride, but he was too short. However, the CM
put us in one on the "ships" and play the video without the movement of chairs. My DS thought it was great. By the way, the parks weren't crowded. I thought the CM was great just to add a little (pixie dust) for my DS. So, I think your DS will enjoy it!!

waltdisneyworlddreamer: Just to let you know that there is a great photo op right by star tours. Look for the (I think it is called) land speeder. It is set off in the brush a little and many people don't even see it.

If you head to Star Tours at opening, you will be able to get several rides in without a long wait. Most people do head to ToT, RnRC and Little Mermaid.

My kids love Star Tours - it seems they didn't get my motion sickness problems.

My 7 year old liked it just fine. In fact the only ride he hated was ToT, but he rode it twice and he could proably be persuaded to ride it again when we go back when he's 9. The only ride ds refused to ride was Space Mountain. He heard screams coming from it and said "No Way!!".

BTW~~Test Track is my ds' favorite ride followed by Mission: Space.
