DAS length of time if updating tickets

My DH was approved for DAS last year when we had AP's. We're planning a trip to WDW in November and he will reapply for DAS before the trip. I know that acceptance isn't guaranteed. AP's are so expensive so I was thinking we'd both purchase length of stay tickets before the trip and then pay to upgrade to DVC AP's once we get there. Once we do this could the DAS be extended to the year length or would he have to go through the process approval again?

I actually asked this question during my son's chat since I'm planning on upgrading as well. She said to call back within two weeks after the end of trip where the passes are upgraded and they will extend for a period of time, I forget if it was 240 days or the full year.

My understanding is it requires a separate call and they are unable to modify the dates. There does not seem to be any consistency in anything they do though. But, I am in a few very big DAS groups and I have not heard of anybody being able to modify from a ticket to a AP and get it extended without a new chat/questioning.

It's a bit different but ... I just been approved for DAS this morning. I have 1 leftover day from last year on my dated ticket ( our ticket validity period got extended with 1 year because of the hurricane got shut down the parks). I will use it on 24/09/2025 and will have a 14 days ticket (with 18 days validity period-UK ticket) starting on 05/10/2025 (the ticket actually not linked yet- and it didn't matter) my DAS validity period which I got approved is 24/09/2025 - 24/09/2026. I got assured I don't have to call back to request a new DAS within the year in case I buy another "dated " ticket. I hope this info will help to some. I wasn't aware it works like that. So I was extremely anxious before/during the call that I have to call twice within a month. Would have been nice to know that's not the case .

Thank you everyone for your replies. The whole process is confusing and it seems that the answer you get from cast members is reliant on who answers your call. My DH is anxious about the call but I told him that we'll just see what happens. I tend to be the Pollyanna in our family lol.
