Who has been on Star Tours??

Just beware...it does empty out into a Star Wars gift shop!! LOL! :scared1:

We are leaving for Disney on the morning of the 20th and have already made the vow to be in the midnight line for Star Wars on the 19th. We are huge fans. I have already told my husband that if I see the Mickey/Darth Vader poster...THERE WILL BE NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Just consider it "BOUGHT"! :earboy2:

If your 7 year old is a Star Wars fan he will love it! The building is filled with things from the Star Wars movies inside and out! My son is a big Star Wars fan and he enjoys not only the ride but the wonderful gift shop you walk through on your way out. We took my daughter on it when she was just 5 and after watching the pre-ride movie which featured Chewie sitting inside the simulator she turned and said "Now that big furry guy's not going to be in there is he?" Even after reassuring her that he wasn't it was funny to watch her looking back over her shoulder a couple of times just to be sure he wasn't once we got into our seats! :) She loved the ride, too!

Be aware that while Star Tours and Body Wars (Epcot) are basically the same technology, for some reason their effect on the body is quite different. Star Tours is one of our family's top favorites (and has been since my boys were 5 & 8), but we've ridden Body Wars once and will NEVER ride it again. It just about ruined the day for all of us and we are big coaster/thrill ride junkies. Anyone else have this experience?

body wars wasn't open when we went, but we did do star tours and ds 7 at the time LOVED it, and so didn't i. dh who can do any thrill ride, but no spinny rides (ie/ tea cups and the primeval whirl, which he just looked at, and called it the whirl and hurl, ds and i did it 5 times in a row during emh) didn't fell that great after star tours...he got a touch of motion sickness from it.but he also forgot to take his dramamine too that day. he was fine about 5 mi after so it wasn't to bad. i just kept hearing him taking deep breaths through the whole thing, and of course when we got out he said "no i am fine, it was just hot" as his face was a shade of green. he says he will do it again but will take his dramamine first..good plan, lol.

If there was a BARF icon I'd put it here. A little too much for my entire family, including two thrill ride freaks!

I think most kids would be OK with this ride as long as they don't have problems with motion sickness especially if they are SW fans. If DS is tall enough in December we plan to take him on it. :)

Pedler,
If you head to Star Tours at opening, you will be able to get several rides in without a long wait. Most people do head to ToT, RnRC and Little Mermaid.

My kids love Star Tours - it seems they didn't get my motion sickness problems.

Thanks for the info! That is probably going to be the highlight of MGM for them. We will go on RnRc using fastpass later in the day but first thing they want to head for is the "Star Wars Section". :-) So far I have no other takers in the family for TOT so that may be a singles line ride for myself.

I don't like Rock n' Roller coaster or Tower of Terror, but I love Star Tours, & I'm not even a big Star Wars fan. It's so much fun, & I think you'll really enjoy it.

My guys went on it MULTIPLE times when they were just 3 and 5. It was their Favorite ride that year, and continues to be one of the favorites. You will have a blast, and if your son loves Star Wars, he will definitely love it!

Pedler, when are you going? I can't get anyone in my family to do ToT with me either!!! I'd join you if you'll be there on 4/19!! :)

We dont find it to be scary and my now 5 yr old, hit the 40 inch mark in his late 3's and started riding it then and has always liked it.

:goodvibes Thanks so much for all the replies! This is not at all what I thought. We are definitely going to try it. It sounds like it would be just right up his alley! THANKS!!

If he loves speed and rollercoasters he should love this ride. If he gets mild motion sickness he'll like it less. My DH gets motion sickness (his ear ducts are small) but thought this ride was "alright." Kinda motion sickness but it didn't last long at all, he was glad he tried it too. He was just walking sideways for a small while afterwards. :rotfl: As far as darkness goes it is a bit darker since it's supposed to take you into space, which is just a void with stars, but theres so much fighting and action going on that the place is pretty lit up most of the time. Not sure if that description helped much but my 8 year old cousin was on it when she was 7 and really enjoyed it, and she's petrified of the dark. TOT just about did her in b/c of the dark, but she liked the free fall so much she just started closing her eyes on it so she could do it a few more times. :confused3 Anyways have a blast!

DS13 asks to return to Star Tours every trip - at least once or twice

My DS is what you would call a very cautious child. We took him on lots of rides when he was 4 and some have left a lasting impression. There are a lot of rides that he thinks are scary that most people would just laugh at (Haunted Mansion, etc).

He LOVES Star Tours! His first ride was when he was 6. He was pretty nervous until we got inside the building with the characters and preshow. He was still kinda nervous when we sat down, but I held his hand and that helped. After the ride, he was just beaming!!

He always asks to go on it at least twice during our trips now.

My Star Tours tip is this :

If you are prone to motion sickness, sit as far in the front as you can. The illusion isn't as convincing, but it's a lot less rough. If you have an iron stomach, sit in the back row - the illusion of flight is much better but the ride is much more jerky.

When I was a kid it was all about the back row - as an adult I am finding much relief when they sit me in the front. ;)
