Who has been in a Mosh Pit before?

i've never been in an actual mosh pit, but me and my friends have started them at school dances (year book even has a picture of us)

not to be rude, but i'm reading a lot of replies that say "there so violent" and stuff, but i have a friend who was a teen in the begining of the mosh pit era. he says that they were never meant to be violent: it was supposed to be a violent dance without being violent if that makes sense. it started off with, that, if someone fell down, you'd help them back up. but i'm not trying to be a jerk, so please don't hate me

Mosh pits originated by a group of people who were rejecting classic dance and created slam dance. Slam dance has changed over the years and when you add in the substances at least half of the people involved are on, they get violent. Maybe they weren't intended to be taht way, but thats what they are.

you can sort of put two and two together if you think about it.

you have an entirely large group of people standing ridiculously close to each other. they are all jumping and screaming to a band that they happen to really like. someone steps wrong, and they fall. everyones concentration is so focussed on the band they dont realize that they are now actually stepping on someone. and you have to think, half those people that go to things like livestock and warped tour for example, are usually drunk or strung out on something. not everybody has common sense. it may have started out "fall friendly" but it just isnt that way any more.

...unless of course you start a "mosh pit" at disney world to wishes or something. but lets not hold our breath on that one.

It's hard to mosh to ballads.
It's hard to mosh to Disney songs.
It's hard to mosh to Country, Calypso, Jazz, Broadway, a ton of different forms of music.
It's hard to mosh to elevator music.

And several more. Not to mention you would just look stupid moshing to those. Just imagine how dumb you would look moshing to something like Poison's, "Something to Believe In", or Skid Row's, "I Remember You". Or say, a Johnny Cash song, or a Jimmy Buffet song.
