Who has a Kindle? (wireless reading device)

I ordered mine right about the 2nd week in December, when they said they were out of stock, and I got it either right before or after Christmas.

I got an "IOU" for one for Christmas-- not sure when it was ordered, exactly. It is still on backlog and shows as shipping late Feb/early March. It is torture waiting...:rolleyes2

Is anyone getting a the new version kindle coming out??

YES!!!!!!! I ordered with 1 click this morning about 10:25am, paid for one day shipping, and have a ship date of February 25th. I am so excited!!!!!!

I will give my Kindle 1 to the daughters and use Kindle 2 myself.

PS The New Yorker is available as a Kindle subscription today, too!!! AND they have the cartoons!!! But they don't seem to have the cartoon contest so I will have to keep my paper subscription for the time being...

That is so awesome!! I really like it. When you look at the new one and then look at the version we have....... it really does make the version we have look dated doesn't it??

Okay so when i can afford the new one, I'm buying it!!

Waaah...I want a Kindle 2 but can't get one. I mean I could get one but I'm supposed to be saving every penny for Disney. Waaahhh! Must re-strategize.

Feb 24 is the scheduled release date

Wow, I'll have to look. DH wanted to buy me one for Christmas and I told him to wait for the new generation. Well, now he probably won't be working for 3 months to who knows when so I'll have to wait even longer. That's okay though :)

Yes, me too. I'm starting to save the money now (I want to buy a cover for my Kindle too so that's $400 all together). I plan to buy one in May.

This may have been mentioned in earlier posts..but I'm too lazy to read thru them all.:goodvibes

My question is ...can you still read without the wireless connection on?? Like when you are on an airplane and have to turn off any wireless connections?? Thanks for any info!!
I am thinking seriously about getting one!!

Yes...unless I am shopping or downloading I leave my Whispernet off. It saves the battery.

Well, I just ordered Kindle 2. I already have two Kindles (I purchased mine the second day it was available, and then several months later bought another one for my wife). Dang it, I just can't resist this 'newer' version. I especially like how they changed the button placement, and I also like the 'voice' feature.

Since I read my Kindle for several hours a day, I feel it will be worth it. I may give my old one to a sister.

:rotfl: I wondered if you would do it, too!!!! We are too easy....

I looked it over and didn't see anything exciting enough to warrant a new one just yet...unless....

Am I misunderstanding or are they trying to tell me MORE books will be available on K2 than K1 and at a cheaper price???? I see that the typeface will be sharper, pictures clearer, battery life longer, faster page turning, it reads aloud and more newspapers and mags available and more storage but these aren't issue for me right now. If it had back lighting and better web browsing, well then we'd talk, but K1 suits my needs provided I can download the same books at the same price at the moment. Am I correct on that?

We are indeed! I guess I should go ahead and place my pre-order for Kindle Version 3, which I imagine will come out in 18 months or so. I wonder what IT will have to entice us?

Color images?
3-D images?
3-D letters?
Implants news articles directly into your head vis Whispernet?

The mind boggles!

I still haven't told my wife of my new purchase. :guilty:

No, I don't think there is any difference in the number or cost of Kindle books. It wouldn't make sense for them to offer two price points. Where did you read that?

And, as you probably know, Kindles can't be backlit in the true sense of the word because the eink screens are opaque and light can't shine through them. There have been some attempts at least by Sony to light their reader by embedding lights around the edge, but some people have complained about glare on the page. The best reading experience with an ebook that uses eink technology is always going to be with an external light source like a lamp.
