Who has a functioning crystal ball for October? (Disney/DVC Mask Speculation)

Since the CDC just stated fully vaccinated people don´t need masks indoors or out except on/in places like planes and dr offices, I hope Disney relaxes their rules soon too.

CDC just said this:

CDC says fully vaccinated people don’t need to wear face masks indoors or outdoors in most settings

Disney may or may not go along with this right away, but I am still optimistic that masks will be gone by sometime this summer. 🤞
I think the issue with this guidance is the "fully vaccinated" part.

How will that be determined?

Another news item today was that several members of the Yankees who were vaccinated in early April have turned up positive this week.

You start combining issues like the first with news like the second, and throw in Florida's rules on vaccine status checks, Disney will know that lifting their mask rules opens up a can o worms if they try to reimpose later.

I think its gonna be a point of everyone whos not vaccinated is gonna lie and say they are and everyone is gonna go about life like normal again and I HOPE everything turns out ok. But the worst case will be folks who lied end up getting sick due to being the only ones this virus can cling to this in turn will help with herd.. but I honestly dont want folks to get sick for this to happen. also being vaccinated dosnt mean you cant test positive its less likely but you can and you will have less of a reaction than if you didnt have a vaccine.

The issue is how does one tell who is fully vaccinated?
That will always be the question. At some point, the people who don´t want to get sick will get a vaccine so they can live a pre-covid life. The ones not wishing to vaccinate themselves, or can´t for some reason will have to hope herd immunity comes quickly for them. And that is something the vaccinated people will help do. We will never have 100% vaccined, but we can´t wear masks forever either.

Verify how? The paper card that people were copying from the internet? That's not reliable, and at the moment there is no other means of verification. I think Disney will keep the masking for a while. They may lighten up on social distancing, but I think masking will be around at Disney for a few months, yet.

I'm going to merge this thread and refer everyone to the existing thread... Who Has A Functioning Crystal Ball

Yep. This. It can be an optional thing to provide proof of vaccination in order to get a wristband that allows you to forgo masks in the parks. Simple.

The paper cards can be forged very easily. I doubt Disney would use them to link to Magic Bands

I think that Disney will get to a point in a few weeks where masks won´t be required, period. The rest of the country will have stopped their use in all but a few situations, and people will just stop using them, especially if they had covid or the vaccine. My son is not seeing anyone use them in the small town he lives in. Cities could be different, or hard hit places.

Most, but not all, businesses in my town of about 30K people, about 40 miles East of San Antonio, still require them. And even in the ones that don't, most people are still wearing them. The San Antonio Zoo suggests masks in the outside areas, but requires them indoors. I wore mine all day just to avoid the off/on hassle.

Masks for the vaccinated is not a science question, it's a policy question. Rules work best when uniform, which makes them easier to enforce and creates social pressure to comply, since violators stand out. A rule that half the population can break, without any clear way to figure out who is allowed to do what, is just going to be broken by everyone.

Because there is no actual way to tell who has been vaccinated, and who has not, is why I think the Disney mask policy will be around for at least a few more months. Maybe longer, depending upon what actually happens with the infection numbers.

Fauci said the other day that he can see masks as "seasonal". Don't be surprised if they come back...

Unfortunately, humans generally don't adapt quickly to rule changes. That would kind of be like saying that red mean stop, and green mean go, except in July and August, when green means stop and red means go. I don't think seasonal masking would really be a do-able policy.

I completely agree.

Maybe Dr. Fauci meant that masks would be “strongly recommended” seasonally - like influenza vaccine is “strongly recommended” seasonally - rather than required. It seems to me that at some point everyone will have to accept personal responsibility for themselves by either getting vaccinated and wearing masks or accepting the risk if they don’t.

Agree. And the CDC - and our new President - says that "point" is today. From tomorrow on, if Disney chooses to continue to make everyone wear masks (regardless of status), they are actually encouraging the unvaccinated point-of-view, rather than supporting the process of vaccination.

Hoping they do the right thing now, which is to immediately relax the mask mandate; or at the very least relax it outside.
