Who has a functioning crystal ball for October? (Disney/DVC Mask Speculation)

My crystal ball is not functioning, but I predict Disney is planning to the mask requirement before the 50th anniversary celebration (October 1, 2021).

That's almost 5 months away.

All bets are off if there's another spike. But if there's another spike, something is seriously wrong.

yep I said it before that Disney wants to get rid of the masks on oct1. Disney is not going to do anything until the other theme parks drop their masks. So who knows if that will happen. The other theme parks could play hard ball and not drop their masks by oct 1 just so Disney won’t drop their for the start of the 50th.

I think the masks will be gone by October and maybe sooner. Our state (MN) just announced today that the indoor mask requirement will be lifted by July 1 or when 70% of the state's eligible adults have been vaccinated, whichever comes first. (We are at just under 60% right now). The outdoor mask requirement is gone starting tomorrow at noon.

I am optimistic. :). (And also have an October trip planned).

Yeah it’s highly doubtful you will find that many people vaccinated in FL. They just aren’t about all that here. Which is why the mask mandate will probably stick around WAY longer then it should.

Universal has already dropped the 6 ft to 3 ft in lines AND started running single rider lines as of yesterday. Also, Seaworld is no longer skipping seats/rows at the shows. They are filling the stadiums full! So if anyone is going to play hardball, it’s Disney.

The thing that has been added to the October 1 date is that Orange County Major Demings saying that he would lift all mask restrictions when 70% of the adult population had received 1 dose, and President Biden saying that his goal is to have 70% of the adult population vaccinated by July 1.

So we now have a plan to have mask requirements removed as early as July 1.

Yes but do you actually see this happening?? I mean maybe I just live in a super red area of FL but I can’t see FL going over 50% vaccinated. It’s just...not a thing down here! I doubt by July 1 we will be over 50% considering we have had access to vaccines since what? January? And 5 months later were only sitting around 30%? Because people aren’t interested in getting them. I know the mayor said that but I laughed pretty hard. I’m hoping something else will happen and we can remove masks at the park even without Orange County getting to 70%. Because it certainly isn’t happening in 2021.

Just a reminder that it is OK to discuss mask policies at Disney, DVC and other theme parks. It is OK to speculate/guess what may happen. But if the thread evolves into a political discussion or a discussion about the pros/cons of masks, the thread will be closed.

If Disney is still requiring masks outdoors the last week of July, we will be cancelling our family HHI trip. I will be super sad since it's the last opportunity we have to take a family trip for the next three years, but it just doesn't seem like a vacation if we have to wear masks in 90 degree heat. We will go somewhere else--even though HHI is my favorite place on earth and I would prefer to go there rather than somewhere else.
A little off topic but I wouldn’t cancel HHI due to masks - we went this past summer and although they were strict on property you didn’t have to wear them at the pools or beach so most of the times ours were off and it wasn’t a big deal at all!! Go enjoy your family vacation!

Yes, I realize this. My DH and I went last October, and we rented bikes and spent most of our time off property. But our family members are not pool/beach people and instead spend HOURS at the Disney fishing pier and do not want to deal with masks. Either way, my DH and I will be back for our annual trip this October, so I'll get my taste of HHI!

Tom Bricker mentioned that the fine print of the “Boo Bash” parties in Oct still indicate face coverings will be required. Whether that is placeholder or planned policy remains to be seen. Another point he made either in the body of the article or in the comments was ”whatever policy is in place on Oct 1 will likely be the same on Dec 23.“ I know which one I’m crossing my fingers for 😊.

I saw the requirement, but I don't think it is set in stone. It's a whole lot easier to eliminate a requirement than to impose one. I don't have a problem with Disney setting this expectation. It's the right choice - for now, anyway. I still think it's a good bet that masks will be gone by the end of the summer. YMMV.

Florida is right in line with the rest of the country. No need to guess....the data is everywhere. Here’s the latest.

With children not being vax eligible, and the impossibility of checking adult vax status, I suspect they hold onto masking longer than most think.
The good news is Pfizer was just authorized for vaccinations for 12-15 year olds.I believe that was yesterday.

5 months to practice. Most kids do what adults do and acually don't mind masks. If you have enough time to get through the first shock phase and such than a trip should be ez. But if you don't practice and just try putting a mask on last min it's going to end poorly.

Yes. There are additional administrative steps to go through before they hit arms.

Still leaves a big core audience open, and the data on that group is well behind.

I like the way you think and I HOPE you're right!

You might get lucky for them to relax masks if you are walking around outdoors, but my guess is in line, on rides and anything indoors you will still have to wear masks. Numbers are looking good, but might not be good enough to totally get rid of masks, so you need to either work on them keeping them on or have plan B of lots of pool time. Tough to reason with little ones.

No crystal ball here, unfortunately. We have BVC reservations for October that we are really considering either canceling or renting out the reservation. We are thinking of just going to the beach instead. We have all the same concerns as everyone else...lesser experience, all day masks in heat, dining, parades, fireworks, no AP and on and on. It’s the curse of being a DVC member. I would miss so much of the “experience” that makes up Disney. On the other hand IMISS IT SO MUCH! We do have a reservation for March. Fingers crossed.
