Who has a functioning crystal ball for October? (Disney/DVC Mask Speculation)

Agree. And the CDC - and our new President - says that "point" is today. From tomorrow on, if Disney chooses to continue to make everyone wear masks (regardless of status), they are actually encouraging the unvaccinated point-of-view, rather than supporting the process of vaccination.

Hoping they do the right thing now, which is to immediately relax the mask mandate; or at the very least relax it outside.
It is extremely doubtful they will do anything "immediately" they will likely require masks indoors for sometime, remember, not even a full 50% of the US is vaccinated. and again, they have no way of knowing who is and who is not.

Thats the real rub. The CDCs statement is for fully vaccinated people. Which basically means it’s hard for Disney to take action with our vaccines counts so low.

It should be very interesting to see how they proceed over next few months. I wouldn’t want to be making decisions for a theme park right now. The CDC guidance is a huge change however, and as someone said previously it puts the onus on the unvaccinated to protect themselves. I’m someone who has been fully supportive of masks over the past year and wore them diligently. But I feel the risk numbers are really good at this point for those of us who have been vaccinated and I’d be fine if they drop the policy at WDW. Of course people can still choose to wear masks if they want to....

I agree. Why not have a better means of proving someone has been vaccinated, like a permanent card with a chip that links to a database for verification. That is what could help cruises start sailing and entertainment venues re-open, rather than a paper card that is easily forged and downloaded on a home computer and printer. I mean, when I got the vax at a county event, my info was entered into some sort of database, they looked my name up in it when I received the second dose. Use it for verification. The CDC pinged my phone daily the first two weeks after each injection, with questions about any reactions and so forth. They know who has the gotten the vaccine. Provide a way to verify it.

I’d be absolutely fine with this, but my guess is it’s not going fly across the board in the U.S. with pushback regarding personal freedoms, health privacy laws etc. Although I do believe private businesses should & will have the right to require something if they want, but what form that takes is anyone’s guess at this point. I’m not sure Disney wants to wade into those waters however.

Yeah, but I'm old. I remember when vaccination records were required to go to public school. So I just never thought of a vaccination record as really private info, unlike most other medical info.

We do have an app here in NY that does this. I entered my information and the state verified and provided me with something I added to my Wallet on my iPhone.

So it’s proof I have been vaccinated and includes a QR code to scan.

That's pretty awesome, IMO.

New CDC guidelines. Hoping the mask requirement goes away at Disney. Disney would now have CDC guidance to validate their decision.

Except that the new CDC guidelines apply to fully vaccinated people, and the US is still below 50%. So if Disney does end masking, and non-vaxxed people get sick, imagine the viral videos..I went to Disney World, followed their rules, and caught COVID! Not exactly great publicity. Disney, like other entertainment venues, is between a rock and a hard place. They want people to come enjoy the parks, but at the same time, people need to perceive that Disney is safe.

Who cares? Why is Disney a babysitter?? If someone wants to fake that they’ve been vaxed, then catch the virus from another no masked faker, isn’t that on the morons that faked it? Why is that Disney’s problem? A fully vaxed patron should not have to worry about these people, and if they worry too much they can stay home.
Disney should relax the mask requirement, at least for outdoors.

But then the people who did not got the shot should have known better and done something to prevent themselves from getting sick. If someone goes into a large crowd and they are not vaccinated than that is their choice. Now, the unvaccinated people need to protect themselves and not have everyone else do it for them. The vaccine is available for everyone. There have always been people who needed to wear masks for other issues, and they still need do. It is a choice to go to a crowded Disney.

This would be more publicity to get the vaccine and enjoy Disney again.

The problem is that the State of Florida is preventing private business from requiring people to have to show a valid vaccination card/ID. So now parents have to decide on if they should bring their kids who are under 12 years old to WDW now, because they will possibly be around unvaccinated people who aren't wearing masks and possible spreading covid.

Agree - that choice belongs to the parents. Disney is not responsible beyond informing people of the risk and strongly suggesting that the unvaccinated (including children) wear a mask.

But the vaccine is not available to everyone. It’s not available to kids under 12. My kids are all too young to get it. It’s also not available to those that have some type of condition or allergies that prevent them from getting it.
It depends on the kid and if you practice beforehand, but my 2 and 5 year olds can wear a mask for hours without complaining. Personally I’m just not bothered by having to wear a mask if it will help protect those that still can’t be vaccinated, especially until a higher percentage of our population is vaccinated. I had to give birth in a mask last year without an epidural… masking at the grocery store or at a theme park just isn’t a big deal.

Please understand, children under 12 have a VERY LOW chance of contracting symptomatic COVID, and even a lower chance of having a bad outcome from it. Lower than the seasonal flu. I'm not sure if you knew that, but a small number of children have a bad outcome from the flu every year. Are you masking them for that possible outcome?

If you are vaccinated, you are not 'protecting' any unvaccinated person by wearing a mask; your vaccine is doing that - and doing it much better than any non N95-compliant mask.

And as far as ALL OF US wearing a mask because we're 'protecting' the unvaccinated from the unvaccinated, that is just silly now. It was the way when there were no vaccines. It was the way when our new vaccines were not yet proven. It is NOT the way now. Highly effective, proven, and peer-reviewed vaccines are available far and wide. CDC studied and endorsed. They are absolutely free. 60% of American adults have received at least one jab. Any person 12 and older that wants a vaccine can get one in minutes.

And while you don't think wearing a mask is a big deal, many do - including many older folks where the mask becomes a physical impediment. Therefore, as a fully-vaccinated American, I refuse to continue to physically impair myself with a mask every time I leave my house because I have to 'protect' the unvaccinated from each other. The onus is on them now; they can: 1) wear the mask 2) get the jab 3) or do nothing. Their choice.

May I ask, are you vaccinated? With all due respect, most of those that have no problem continuing to wear a mask at this point have some fear of the vaccine. Sadly they fear COVID, and rightly so, but they fear the vaccine more.

I also think there’s a large population that already had COVID and have immunity from that and feel like they don’t need to be vaccinated. So by having 35% of the US vaccinated we are a lot closer to heard immunity based on the number of people who got COVID and recovered. I agree that masks outside in the summer Florida heat is absolutely unbearable.

This thread is straying from speculation of what Disney/DVC will be in the future regarding COVID protocols. It is being closed. For those that wish to discuss the effectiveness of masks, vaccines, and associated risks, we invite you to join existing discussions on the DIS Community board.
