OK I came down with strep out of the blue. None of my kids are sick. Me? I feel like I got slammed against a wall. These ATB better kick in quick. UGH!

I have a bout with strep about once a year. I will be 50 next month.

A coworker missed 3 days of work for strep right at the beginning of the year on doctors orders. She really got hammered with it. He actually tested her kids (6 year old twins) and found that one of them was a carrier and brought the germs home, but neither of them got sick. I am not sure what the term is, but it is fairly common.

I hope you feel better soon!

Strep is horrible. I'm a mom of three kids and they seem to get it once or twice a year (each) and I get it about every other year.

My kids have strep and so does DH.
Dh is a carrier. So he can be infected and not have any symptoms.

I just got back from the doctor with a strep diagnosis. I'm 44 yrs old and have never had strep throat before. It's going throughout my kids' school right now. No one else in the family has it but me.

Hope you feel better soon! Off to find a popsicle.

My bff get strep several times a year. She is a school nurse and it never fails that if a kid coughs on her she will come down with strep.

I do (and I'm 42, too)! I get a bout of strep nearly every year, and usually it takes more than one type of antibiotic to knock it out. One year, it would come back 2 weeks after I was off antibiotics, for about 8 months -- finally, a new dr. gave me penicillin, which he said is the best for strep....go figure! I even tested positive for whatever the strep is when you deliver when DD was born.

I still have my tonsils, which may be some of the problem. I call it my "own personal strep" because I've never given it to anyone in the family, and I never get it when the others in my family get it.

It always knocks me on my butt, so take the time NOW while you're contagious to get rest.

I'm 43yo & a Strep MAGNET.

All it takes is for someone in the same room as me to have Strep, & I'll catch it.

I don't get Strep and neither do my kids. My sister and her family seem to get it constantly. I guess if you are susceptible, age doesn't matter.

I hope your antibiotics kick in and you get better quickly! :)

I didn't realise it was age-specific. I thought kids got it more because their immune systems were still developing and because they are in an enclosed environment with a lot of other kids for a large portion of the day (plus hygiene issues associated with being a kid!). :confused3

I've had it several times in adulthood.

So funny! I posted the same comment to my Facebook last Friday when I was diagnosed, except that I'm 30-something. DD4 is perfectly healthy and it's me getting the shot in the butt to fix strep!

If I had my tonsils, I might understand it, but I had those puppies out in 1978! :confused3

Hugs to everyone with this (((((((DISBUDDIES)))))))

I hate the way they test for strep. There has to be a better way! I always gag....I wonder if anyone throws up when they take that test.
