who gets on first??!!

What I remember (and it's been a couple years) was a single bus "stop" at a resort (I'm thinking Poly, WL, CR). There were benches under cover near (within 30'?) of the "stop". But I never remember a "line" because you don't know what bus is coming next. So how can you "line up" if you don't know if you want to get on? That's obviously from the resort to the park.

BB (I think) comes to mind as one of the parks with a "cattle area" that serves a number of resorts. Again, no "line". So how can someone who walks up to the bus stop get "in line"?

If someone is sitting on the bench, at the bus stop at BW, it's pretty safe to assume they are waiting for the bus.

But which bus are they waiting for? And how do we know how soon they'll jump up when their bus pulls in? If they wait until they see others approach the bus and then get up and start yelling HEY we were here first...what is that about?

Because of the new policy put in place on Oct 1, boarding would not have to stop if a ECV arrived. They would have to wait for the next bus if they could not be loaded safely.

I've read your posts, it doesn't appear that you and buses would be a good mix.

The comment about the ECV was directed at a previous post by goofy4tink about an incident she encountered regarding an ECV.

I have nothing against the buses or Disney Transportation in general, it does a very good job for those who choose to use it, I'm just not one of them. My time is more important to me.

The comment about not wanting to be a bus driver there, is because I feel sorry for them and the abuse they must have to deal with on a daily basis. I have the greatest respect for them, but I don't think I could deal with what they have to deal with.

BTW between you and I where is the 5th park going to be, I promise I won't tell a sole.

I have never encountered an issue of benchwarmers getting on before the standing people...when a bus comes, sitting or standing, we merge with the crowd. If we are on the bus, with a seat, we will give up the seat for a young child, older person, parent with small child, etc. We're all goin' to the same place, just be kind.

Actually this is pretty easy...

Three families (add as many as you need, but you'll get the drift)...

Family A walks up to the Bus stop and sits on the empty bench.
Family B walks up 10 minutes later and stands under the covering in the shade.
Family C walks up 10 minutes later as the bus gets there.

Now, Family C can obviously see Family B, so they know B should go first. Family B knows A was already there when they walked up. So the simple order is A-B-C. How difficult is that?

I really don't plan on spending my time at Disney playing Whos on First? at the bus stops. I don't think most people care to sit there and try to memorize who arrived in what order. And what do you do if you walk up and the bus depot is busy?

Good grief. If you want to make sure you get on the bus, then don't sit on the benches. Wait in line.

When I ride the Metro to work, if I get there after a bunch of other people, they hang back from the edge of the platform or sit, and I go stand up at the edge of the platform, I'm getting on the train before they are. That's why I go and stand at the edge of the platform. If I stood back and let them all go first I'd be catching another train. I think if you want to be first on, stand where the bus pulls in.

And that is why I prefer the bus stop at Pop. I remember sitting on the benches at CBR once (we were the first ones there) and not making it on to the bus before. Learned our lesson that time, no more sitting on the bench when people start walking up.

I think it also depends on how the benches are set up at the resorts which have them. For example at the Contemporary bus station there is a row of them and when the buses arrive they just go in whatever space they can, so once the bus stops those getting on get up and wait for the doors to open. However at the Polynesian and Wilderness Lodge bus stations I believe they have different sections for each destinations that the buses go to, so the guests can sit and wait in that section since that is where the bus will stop and the guests can get on.

You are incorrect. We stayed at the Poly in August/September this year. One bus stop with 6 to 8 benches under one canopy. You all wait together for all the parks. There is no separate sitting area/bus stop for each park.

While I don't work outside the home, now, I once had a commute that involved car, bus, and walking. For the bus, even though I was commuting in a very polite area (Seattle), if you weren't in the line, you weren't IN line. That's how it works. Everywhere. Unless the bench is actually part of that line, I cannot understand how a person can think they are IN a line.

And when Tacoma's park and ride was being built, our bus stop was out in a far parking lot, there were covered benches, and the driver would pull up even with the far end of the bench. So if you got there first, you could sit there, then people knew (b/c you tend to know the people you ride the bus with to work) to go behind you. Two shelters with benches would fill, then the rest of the stragglers would stand behind you. It was very orderly, but the buses were involved as well, because they would stop right there at that first person.

But other than that one case, 13 years ago, if someone's on the bench, that's their choice. My choice would be to be in line.

As someone who as been to WDW more than a dozen times, I can assure you the bus stops are no where near as bad as this thread is making them sound. Honestly, I can't remember a time where this was an issue at all. And I have stayed at all levels of resort, from the All Stars to the Poly.

Funny....I was thinking the same thing when I read this tread. I was thinking, some of these folks need to use public transportation for a week, they would see all kinds of things. I think we could write a book. I retired from the USG 4 weeks ago and don't miss metro or the MARC trains one bit. (BTW -- on the commuter train, folks leave their bags to mark their place in line, then sit on a bench.)

Bottom line...
If you get to the bus stop, let's say the BW one for arguments sake, and the bus is just leaving...you can park yourself on a bench and wait for the bus to MK to get there again. Others will come along and perhaps take up other empty areas on benches or they will stand. Others arrive and fill in the spaces.
The bus can be seen coming through the gate down the road. Everyone stretches up to see the destination signage on the bus. Oh, look..it's going to MK. Those already close to the curb move closer to the curb. Thos on the bench get up and head to the curb, right alongside those others who have been standing. When the bus gets there, hopefully, it's not chaotic and everyone boards.
What should not happen is the family that arrived early, took seats, then saw the bus pull in, start to gather their stuff and loudly announce..."Hey, we've been waiting for 20 mins, none of you were here when we arrived, so you need to let us board first.''

wow... this is way complicated and a potential time vacuum... which is why I gave up on the buses long ago.
For me, $20 a day for a car rental is money well spent.

Those who say "if you're not in line, you're not in line", what happens when there is no line? It's just a curb... call it 50' long. Where does the line start? Let's say there are two people standing 10' from each other right at the curb. Which one is the line?

Another one... you walk up to the bus stop and there's no bus and no one waiting at the curb... "hey, great, we're going to get in LINE so we can get on the bus" and you wait at the curb. A bus pulls up but it's not the one you want. The driver sees you at the curb and pulls up so you can get on. But now you're blocking people from getting on the bus... but hey, you're in LINE.

Oh, and the comment about "you're going to be walking all day anyway, why sit on a bench? 2 more minutes isn't going to hurt"? Really? I'll take the opportunity to sit when I can because I don't know when I'll get a chance again.

I agree this is not really that big a deal.

Truly not that big a deal. I think that sometimes we get caught up and then get carried away.
I do pretty much the same as you do....if just arriving as the bus arrives, then I hold back a bit to allow those there before me to get on. But I am not waiting for mom and dad to gather up the kids books, fold up the stroller and get the whole dang family off the bench and over to the bus. Either you're ready to go, or you're not.
There truly is NO line at most resorts. It is a clump..and that clump can get rather pushy if there are more than 10 other guests waiting to board the bus. Amazes me....there is plenty of room on the bus, but no..someone is always going to 'have' to be first on. Just gotta get that super-de-dooper seat before anyone else.
