PLEASE DO!!! We love having new people come, as seen in Dan's pics. LOTS of newbies at this meet and, many from far away! Come on down!!! ::yes::

I will try hard next time, hopefully I will be able to make it. I think it takes about 6 hours to drive from my house to Chicago. I would have to make an over night trip out of it. Sounds and looks like great fun though.::yes::

I wonder what it costs to fly out of Detroit???? Might be an option. I will have to look into that. It might be just as easy to drive if you figure in all of the wait time at the airports.

I've killed a few threads lately.
For some reason, I was surprised.

I was thinking about starting my own new thread,
"Who Feels Like An Ignored Poster"?

Then I realized it would be a VERY short thread! ;)

We're going to stay down at the beach this weekend for the Air and Sea Show!
The Blue Angels will be here! :Pinkbounc

 Mercy!
I find it DIScouraging at times. ;)
But, then I remember...it's just the internet. ;)
When people start totally ignoring me in real life, I'll get worried!:)

:sunny:

I would join the Ignored DISers club.

I find that I pretty much get ignored on a lot of threads.

Not this one though:goodvibes

:thewave: this one is the best ::yes::

Friendly people, great posts, lots of laughs.

Hey Montessori.....have you seen the Blue angels before?

I did! What a show!!

I went on a 1000 mile parade back in 2002...one of the scheduled stops was in Evansvile Indiana during their "Freedom Festival"....

While we were being directed where to park...there were biplanes performing out over the Ohio River....aerial stunts with colored smoke...loop-de-loops...

It was great!

Then, after we were parked...we had a luncheon and got to meet with the Evansville Mayor and the event coordinators....THEN....we were escorted out to the stands...and the Blue Angels ZOOMED in...

up and around Evansville....doing stunts over the river....WOW! It was awesome!

As soon as i saw your post....pleasant memories came flooding back!

Hmmm...an ignored thread.....it's a toss up to me... killed a lot of threads....
been ignored on a lot of threads....

LOL! I do have fun though....

Canada has The Snowbirds which I believe to be the equivalent of your Blue Angels, awesome to see the stuff they do isn't it.

Yes even with being ignored and killing threads it still is a lot of fun to DIS:wave:

The precision the Blue Angels did that day was unbelievable!

Then, after they performed over the river they went out of sight...and I remember there was a tall building behind us....it seemed to me when they flew back to the river that they were close enogh to shake the windows of that building!

Yes, it is a lot of fun...i was having a ball ignoring myself until I saw you & Stepharoine posted Cruisin'.... :cool3:

Hey Brer_Papa......... we are having people over to visit from Holland 3 weeks from now.

We were planning on doing some travelling with them, maybe head over to see the Statue of Liberty and Niagara Falls (of course.)

Is there anything over your way that might be interesting to show people (ourselves included)? Especially if we are already headed over that way? It would be my husband and myself, mid 40 ish people and my husbands 2 girl cousins who are in their early 50's.

We live 1 hour from the Detroit-Windsor border and Canada unless you drive a long, long ways is pretty boring. So we thought we might head through Detroit, over to Cleveland to see my brother in law and then head ???????????

Anybody else got any suggestions of things to do or places to see?? In any direction, starting at the Detroit-Windsor border??

LOTS of stuff on that itinerary....

Naturally, it all depends on how mch time you have...

Detroit is about a 5 hour drive from here...Cleveland an hour and a half....both west of here

Niagara Falls is probably an hour and a half - 2 hours East from here...NYC - Statue of Liberty is a good 9 hours South and East....

West of Cleveland is Cedar Point Park....an hour- hour or so from Cedar Point to Cleveland...world famous roller coasters...

Cleveland - 9th Street East exit is the Rock & Roll Museum...and maybe the Indians will be in town...Jacob's Field is a jewel...

Back on Interstate 90 heading East...yo could swing North off the Old exit 5 ( they renumbered the exits by the mile...I'll get it for you if you want...) anyway..head North on Route 832....about 6 miles down the road and you'll be on Presque Isle State Park...it's BEAUTIFUL!

tidbits of info --- if you headed south on Route 832 a few miles is where i grew up...by heading North, you'll be in spittin' distance of DD - WishingStar's house....and..there's a cool burger-fries & root beer place just before the park entrance...

ok...say you go to Presque Isle...when you leave...remembering there is only one road in and one road out....

before the 1st ight...across from BAC bait stand is Waldameer Park...it's small..you can enjoy it fairly quick...

ok...at that 1st light...instead of staying on Route 832 headingback to 90.......turn left at the 1st light onto Alternate Route 5....this will take you to Downtown Erie....you coud see plenty of our "leapfrog" frogs done by local artists...

once downtown...you will also see the parks...at State street...detour north for 6 blocks....and check out the USS Brig Niagara...our Library...the public dock....

anyway..if you do that...head back southon State...get back on Alt Route 5...stay on that...it will take you along the Lake Erie shoreline...through "Grape Country" and the vineyards and to New York...

this route also avoids the toll roads on 90 in NY...and is MUCH more scenic....

and it merges with Route 20 in Silver Springs...in the midst of a Native American Reservation...cheaper gas and such....

and will take you to Buffalo and Niagara Falls....and it leaves you any number of opportunities to jump back on 90 if you wish....

There is a relatively new Casino on the American side in Niagara Falls if that interests you....

I have gone on Corvette / Classic Car cruises to Niagara Falls...there are some quaint and neoned motels on Niagara Falls Parkway that we stay at....

when i have gone to NYC from here...iusually head south to 80 off 79....I'd have to look up how to get to NYC from Niagara Falls....i'm thinking the Garden State Expressway would probably be your best bet....

keep in touch...I'll help all I can....

Thanks for the info Brer_Papa. I haven't had time to totally "digest" it all yet and I will need to get my map out to check things out.

We have a tentative timetable of leaving between May 21 to the 23rd and being back home again no later than May 30. So we have a pretty good stretch of time available.

One of the main problems will be that May 21 is a long weekend in Canada and the next weekend is a long weekend in the US. So we may start our trip with travel in the US and end it with travel through Canada.

We like to visit "small town America" when we travel. It is so much more interesting than just staying on the main highways. On a recent trip we were going through Kentucky and went through a town, whose name escapes me right now. But all of the fire hydrants in that town were painted and decorated to represent different things. It was really interesting to see all of the different designs, even the ones out in the middle of nowhere were done up nicely.

I will have to check for concert listings of yodellers and one man bands if I find myself in your "neck" of the woods.;)

:wave2: Everyone!

Wow Bill, add NAVIGATOR to your impressive title!!!! :sunny:

btw, the Cubs are getting WHOMPED tonight!!!!!!!! :earseek: WILL End a 6 game winning streak. :( :edited because it's not over yet!) ;)

Brer_Papa, I see now that you mentioned Corvette/Classic Car cruises, have you ever heard of RM Classic Cars? They do a lot of car restorations for famous people such as Jay Leno, Tom Cruise, Nicolas Cage and other wealthy famous people?

They are located quite near to us. We know one of the guys who is quite high up in the company and he brings cool cars to our shop all of the time. Multi million dollar cars that they have restored are sitting in our driveway on a regular basis. We have made some parts for some of those restorations

Personally, I prefer Austin Mini's ;)

the toll par in NY isn't terribly expensive....probably 5 bucks or less from the toll begining to Niagara falls...so....

if you do choose 90 all the wy, I can tell you where the good places are on that route...like if you wanted to go to shopping malls...or get an idea where to eat...

off 90 in Dunkirk NY....south on 60.... an approximate total of 10 miles....is a Spiritualist Community called Lily Dale.....very quaint....very peaceful...

i failed to mention the wineries in PA and NY on the route 5 way....

and yes...i agree about seeing small town America...I go to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green KY from time to time...seems i take a different route every time...

as stated previously..keep in touch on this...glad to lend a hand...
