Good thing I wasn't drinking anything when I read this :rotfl:

oh dearie.. mj would never let her decoder ring say that!

ask kims.. I just don't have it in my nature.

So what kinda good Local food does PA have to share?

Here from this part of Ca... we have lots of garlic, cherries, strawberries, apricots, peppers and lettuce.... look on your bag of salad.. We live there.. the salad bowl of the nation!

oh and I have always wanted to visit Canada.. it is on my list of things to do...
it's a long list.. LOL

There once was a guy named Bill :wizard:

Some thought he was a bit of a pill

He grossed out the girls :faint:

Because he ate squirrels

But maybe someday they will... :)

BP, I can't seem to get B1, but A5 comes thru CRYSTAL CLEAR!!! :teeth:

Joan, why on EARTH would I visit Nordstrom's if I need a paper bag to vomit (or, hyperventilate, as you say)? ;)

maybe!!!

But don't hold your breath waiting for us to join you :(

Girlfriend.. I go to Nordy's when I want to PRETEND I am rich! LOL.. then I really feel good to know I can get nice stuff on sale somewhere else! ah it is deception of the brain that keeps me busy...LOL

BP.. you are a poet.. how sweet is that?!

PA is somewhat known for our delicacies...

some of which are regional...

for instance....south of here...not too far from Pittsburgh..

Saxonburg bologna is well sought after...

arond here..."Ox Roast"...which is thinly sliced roast beef...simmered in an au jus concoction....( I add some onion, garlic...and some beer)...is quite yumaliscious.... i prefer it on rye bread...

scrapple...a jellied mess of mostly lips and feet...i wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole...

but then again...PA is quite agricultural...best apple cider this side of heaven....

we have our own little NAPA Valley...along Route 5....close to the lake...wineries and grape vineyards galore...

tomatoes that are so good...you can taste the sunshine when you bite into one...
:sunny:

:) :) :)....just a few examples....

ok.. I tried to picture squirrel mc nuggets...

and all I can envision is prickly fuzzy brown globs of deep fried meat...

not pretty..just not pretty... but maybe if I cover them with sauce??????

nah that picture does'nt do it for me either... but it does make me LOL

Ya'll are TOO funny! I wish I knew how to figure out smilies for everyone

BrerPapa, you and my husband MUST get together. Being a former PA resident, he preferred his squirrel in spaghetti sauce....if you can belive it! Me, I prefer my squirrels in the trees. They are all over the place here! Since you like festivals, you should be here in March for the Shrimp Festival about 45 minutes from our place!

MamaJoan, Hi there! We've never met, but I'm Ann (Hollyann - or Hello, Holly ann.....sung by Ricky Nelson - according to BP). I lived in Coronado (San Diego), CA 4 years ago and loved Nordstrom! I agree - the prices are outrageous!

Hi to everone else! I hope ya'll are having a great day! Hubby and I had breakfast out and I'm going out to lunch with some girlfriends today. Then we're going to check out a parade of homes here locally to get some decorating ideas. Not that I'm a decorator, but I enjoy seeing how the other half lives!

Take care and glad to see the thread back up & running!

Oh My Gosh... I was just lurking in your thread, and please Don't invite Papa to a shrimp festival if you want anyone else to have any. You can not even imagine how many that man can put away:) .

As for the regional foods in PA I will agree with the cider and the tomatoes (you have to try them with garlic:) ) But the game meats:crazy2:. And I for one do not attend the annual gross meat party. The last thing I saw them make a stew out of was a squirrel, and that was enough for me :faint:

:yo-yo: Good morning Ann! Lunch and the parade of homes sounds like fun. Yeah it was pretty gross around here last night

:earseek:

:wave2: WishingStar, nice to see you! Your Papa was doing a fine job of making us ill ;) last night. If I ever happen to be visiting in your area, I will make sure I ask what is for dinner before I decide to stay ::yes::

Hollyann, I agree. I prefer my squirrels in trees too.

Brer_Papa.... is there a taste difference in the different colours of squirrels or do they all taste the same :scratchin

Hollyann, you just have to click on the smilies to make them work. Give it a try sometime. :sunny:

Well... Good Morning...almost a Good Afternoon...ALL!

I am between projects...so, I though I'd DIS....an odd time for me to be here......

but, I am off....

(off work you smarty-pants that misinterpreted that....you know who you are.... )

{musical intro}....Hello HollyAnn ! :wave2: AAAH! Yes! ::yes:: Meeting your Hubby and comparing PA notes woud be super! I am quite guilty of being a PA fan...especially the Erie area...we'd get along splendidly....

OK....I hope this works...but after grossing every one out last night about the squirrels......I am hoping my super-duper/mega-secret/anti-grossout new ink only lets you and your Hubby read the following....

{anti-nosebud-message}Ayup...I have heard...seen...and tried sqirrel n spaghetti sauce...

in fact....one guy I used to work with used to bread the heads...and include those...as well as regular meatballs...with his spaghetti and sauce...

personally, I never partook...but...to each his own... {/anti-nosebud-message}

Have a nice time today ! :sunny:

Hmmmm....WisingStar....

Hiya Honey!

You know you are always invited to the annual Super Bowl Party....I could cook something more to your liking...and I'll save the wrappers so you know what it is I cooked... :jester:

BTW....you failed to mention that both your Brothers pack away more shrimps than I do...chicken wings now...that's another story :)

Ahoy Cruisin! :boat:

Excellent question! Yes, there are taste differences...however slight it is...
Black squirrels are smaller but a tad sweeter....

Fox squirrels are the largest of the lot...best for the McNuggets....

Gray squirrels...I like them stewed....not quite as large as a fox...not quite as sweet as a black...but perfect with some gravy, onions, carrots, celery, potatoes and seasoning :) :)

Now...a question...did you know both rabbit and woodchuck taste remarkably like chicken?

random thought  ....too bad they don't have wings....

It's okay Brer_Papa, I think we had all kind of figured you were a bit off  But that's okay, we like you that way :p

Unfortunately your encoding device didn't work very well!! And all I can say about that is ew, ew, ew, ew, ew!!!!!!!!!!!:crazy2: and... gross!!!!!

that's a lot of "ew" 's....

time to trot out my literary side...

"methinks the Lady doth protest too much"

parmesan?

Other people in this house like to put it on their pasta dishes

No accounting for some people's taste ;)
