...cheerful! This happens to me every year and lasts for about two months - my resolution is to NOT let this get to me - anyone else wanna join my"DONT LET WINTER GET YOU DOWN" club?

I suffer from this every year. It was worse when I lived in a cold climate where the snow never seemed to stop. I do have to admit, living in Florida helps cure the blues to some degree.

I think there is always something to be said about anything coming to an end. January seems to be a "lull" month for many people, it is still winter, but all the Holidays have come and gone. I live for the Holidays! One way I have helped myself get through the Holidays and make it last longer, is to embrace it with tenacity and decorate even longer! :)

My decorations go up right before Thanksgiving, and I do not take them down until January 2nd. :) I try to look at New Year's Eve as a new beginning, a chance to start again, and do something you've always wanted to do. We just decided today that we will be moving to Orlando! I've always wanted to be apart of the Disney Artist team, so I'm going to work my hardest at it!

You're not alone in your blues! :)

There have been years when I have felt like that - the "blahs" - but this year isn't one of them..:thumbsup2

I'm currently spending a lot of time working on craft projects that I haven't done in several years now (painting plastercraft and ceramic items) and when I've had my fill of that, I'm ready to move on to making some quilts..:goodvibes

If the quilts get boring, it will be back to scrapbooking - and then before I know it the snow will be gone and I can return to the lake..:lovestruc

Can't quite put my finger on it - but I'm feeling particularly optimistic about this year and how it's going to turn out.. It's a great feeling..:thumbsup2

DH and I solved that (somewhat) by leaving the day after Christmas for a lovely Florida Vacation-just got back

No theme parks-visited the "old, classic Florida"
Like Homassasa Springs to see the manatees.
:)

I am the opposite - my blues come all around the holidays, and start to let up now that they are over. I hate December/Christmas/New Years. I hate having my whole routine messed up - I hate being unable to shop for anything (even simple groceries) due to crowds, long lines, and insane parking lots. I hate buying presents and hate being guilted into it. New Years is the most boring holiday - we just sit around, doing nothing, nowhere to go, nothing is open. I took a 2 hour nap today out of sheer boredom. I actually am looking forwards to working tomorrow at my job!

I like when everything gets back to normal on the Monday after New Years.

I used to get the winter "blah's" every year, starting January 2. But now DH and I plan a trip to Vegas for a couple days in January or February, which gives me something fun to look forward to. We usually see a show, eat at a casino buffet, play penny slots and just generally have fun. Now January and February are more bearable for me.

The lack of sunlight is a factor for me and others, too. It was worse when I lived further north. I live in New Mexico now and we get lots of sun, which helps, but the sun still sets early. I look forward to when it starts setting after 6 again.

I live in the mountains of northern New England, and it snows at least every other day all winter - gray - I am a solar powered being and probably shouldn't be here, but it is where my family and my children's father are. What vitamin is it that you should take from lack of sunlight? D? maybe i should get some of those. And getting on the treadmill each day again [haven't since before the holidays] even if its just for a mile a day will help. Thnaks for responding to my comment - i need all the help I can get - maybe this thread can be our support group!

Yes, Vitamin D. Also, you can get a "sunlight lamp" that works. "Seasonal Affective Disorder" is the name for getting "down" like we've been discussing in the winter month. I lived in Kodiak, Alaska, when I first became aware that I had this. It's gray there, rainy, overcast a lot of the year, even in summer. You can Google Seasonal Affective Disorder and "sunlight lamp" too and read a bit about them and see if you think the lamp would help. I don't have one because where I live now, I do get sunlight every day (or just about every day anyway), but I would be trying one if I was still living in Kodiak.

I agree with you on exercise, too. Try to eat right as well, and maybe set small goals for yourself to make it through the dark weeks until spring hits full force in your area. :goodvibes

I'm great right now because my kids are still home and DH is not travelling. Once Monday comes, I'm sure the post-holiday let down will set in. Also, I've been really sad not able to spend Christmas and New Year with any family this year, but our immediate family has had a lot of fun together.
That's one of the reasons I love to plan a January Disney trip, it puts my mind from the holidays right to planning and the excitement of going, but not this year.

:sunny:to all those with the onset of winter blahs!

I get down in winter, too. The day after Christmas I was particularly cranky. I'm trying taking some B vitamins as that is supposed to help with energy and metabolism. Being hypothyroid my metabolism is naturally slow, and gray wintery days make me want to crawl into bed and hibernate!

I think thats another part of this - we had to cancel a Feb. trip due to finances - we are married 10 years this year and wanted it to be our ten - moon - oh well - where can I get one of those lights? Anyone know?

That sounds good to me, too! I don't have hypothyroid, but I honestly have to drag myself out of bed on winter mornings. Hibernating sounds great to me! :lmao:

Just do a Google search for them and you'll find a lot of them. They range in prices from around $30 to hundreds of dollars, so you can research it and see if you want to try one.

I love the cold and the winter, so I don't get the winter blahs. But I definitely suffer from "I can't believe Christmas is over" syndrome.

I only mildly get it but DH gets it bad. Sometimes it goes into full depression.
We'll see how this winter goes.

I don't experience a long cold winter, but January's always a "blah" month for me. I'm leaving to go back to college on Sunday, so I'm forcing myself to get into school-mode after such a wonderful Christmas break. It's just a little depressing. ;)

Sending sunshine your way, OP!

I am also one that doesn't like winter - here in my part of the country we don't have a lot of sun - more gloomy days than not.

Does Vitamin D really help?

Let's do this together!!

Have a Magical Disney Day

Thanks for the sunshine! And chrismiss - I am going to try the vitamin D - cant hurt - gonna get some tomorrow.

That's me! Mine starts after baseball season is over. The holidays and traveling help to keep the blues away, but it hits in January. I have my choir and we start singing again next Tuesday, and singing lufts my spirit wonderfully. I also start counting down the days until pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training! :cheer2: 6 weeks!

Good morning, friends! No sun here today and more snow in the forecast, but it IS Saturday, and DH has the day off, so he offered to run errands with me - that's nice! Keep looking on the bright side, guys!

Good Morning......the sun is SHINING here woo hoo!!!! Have energy and am off to clean the house.

Have a Magical Disney Day!!
