Who else LOVED Star Trek?

Early on I wasn't thrilled with a new ST movie coming out but as the months went on I got more and more excited. DH and I went tonite and WOW! LOVED it!

I have to ask though.....am I the only weirdo who got a little weepy with the narration at the end? (those who've seen it, I think you'll know what I'm talking about)
Gawd getting weepy just thinking about it! LOL

Nope. I got pretty choked up, too. I went this afternoon--and left my party pooper (Star Trek, no way!) kids at home. Bad, bad mom :rotfl: .

Major trekker here too. When I was in Jr. High my friends and I used to play Star Trek in the woods. Yes, we were girls. We used those double edged razor packs for phasers. The kind you pushed the razor out of with your thumb. I was always McCoy.

I think Carl Urban did the best job of them all. They were all really good and I really think wether you like the old Star Trek shows or not you will like this movie. :thumbsup2

Personally I thought the narration by Leonard McCoy was annoying. I kept listening for his dentures to whistle. Why doesn't he just get implants with all his money for heaven sake. That is the one thing I could have done without but I appreciate them paying homage to the original.

GO SEE THIS MOVIE!

You're not alone - I was tearing up.

Great movie! Played hookey - took the afternoon off work and went with DH. We loved it! Much better than I could have expected.

And I'm about to sound SO old here, but those "kids" did a great job! :lmao:

My son came home from seeing it and said it was great. He said even the people who hated Star Trek (me) would love this movie.
I never really "hated it" but my ex watched it all the time to the point of ignoring me and the kids. And when we were newly married it was on all the time, regular shows and reruns.
I might just go to see it, but not this weekend, too many Trekkies.

I went and saw it last night with my DBF and we both LOVED it!!!

I'm actually going to see it again tonight with some other friends.

Info about dentures whistling is excellent for me, thank you. One of my huge pet peeves.

Uh oh about Urban being in it...hubby knows I have a "thing" for him as Eomer...I better not mention that he's in it if I feel like seeing Star Trek.:rotfl:

DH and I are going to see it tomorrow after Mother's Day dinner. SIL is going to baby-sit! We've heard great reviews so far! DH is a major trekkie! I really like Chris Pine from when he was in Princess Diaries 2.
I'm getting really excited so thanks for the positive feedback on the film!

We are heading out to see it in a few minutes. I've already paid for the tickets online. We are going to eat, then to the movies, for mother's day. This is our last weekend as a family of four (being induced Thu), so I really hope the kids enjoy it. Dh is an original trekki, where I'm a Picard woman myself:rotfl:.

DH & I are not Trekkie's and I didn't like Star Trek as a kid. Is this movie only for die hard Star Trek fans? The previews look good, but I'm scared to go see it since we both did not like Star Trek as a kid?

I'm wondering the same thing. I love Star Trek but DW Lauri has never watched the tv series and hasn't seen any of the movies. I don't know whether this is a good movie for us to go together or for me to sneak off to when I have a couple of hours.

I just saw it today (Mother's Day gift was being able to sneak off by myself and see it). I LOVED it.

O....M....G...!!!!

We loved it loved it loved it! What a fantastic movie and a wild ride! I'm not ashamed to admit I cried during the opening scene and again at the end. This was genius. I hope the academy recognizes it next year.

SPOILER ALERT:

I was a little surprised to see a relationship between Spock and Uhura. Was this part of the original cannon? I don't recall anything of the sort. Also, what was her first name again? I couldn't understand what they were saying.

Jennasis the Spock/Uhura thing I think is original to this movie. Remember it's an alternate timeline so really anything is possible. And her first name is Nyota.

OMG me!
I'm a youngin' ;) and know NOTHING of Star Trek, but OMG I think this is one of my favorite movies ever!

Me! Me! Me! And the rest of the karriemouse team!

DH is a major trekkie, I have some likes & dislikes from the different TV series and films, both DD have recently got into it. (But they like 'Enterprise' so we have to do more work on them!)

We thought it was fantastic - and what I particuarly loved was that it was in the style & spirit of the original series - it didn't take itself too seriously as some of the other series did. Simon Peck as Scottie was great!

DH has just been looking up trivia on the film and has informed me that the original plot idea was put together in 1968 by Gene Rodenberry himself!!

My dh and I took my DS today for his 16th birthday, because he wanted to see it. He doesn't know much of the original, but watched the newer versions. I thought it looked fairly interesting, but went because this is what he wanted to do. OMG, I LOVED it!!!!!! It was just fantastic, and I loved seeing all the original characters and where they came from. Brilliant. Scotty was always my favorite, and it took awhile, but he didn't disappoint!!!

I saw it this afternoon with a couple of friends. I really liked it. My boyfriend wants to see it sometime during the week. He doesn't like going to movies on weekends. I might see it for a second time in the theater.

I just got back from seeing Star Trek and I LOVED IT!!!!! I wanted to see again right then, but couldn't stay out that late. I will definitely buy this on DVD.

Dh didn't love it, which surprised me, but I absolutely did! And so did dd9! Maybe it was because Kirk was such yummy eye candy-my child does have good taste;). I loved the references from the originals (like cheating on the test), and the Uhura/Spock thing was:scared1:.

Oh, I cried after the opening scene, too. I chalked it up to pregnancy hormones!

Not pregnancy hormones, it got to me too. I was not expecting to be teary eyed during the opening of a Sci Fi film!
