You know my question isn't meant to upset anyone, but to vent a little frustration!! I'm more than a little tired of seeing our DVC studio's compared to the All Stars!!! Do our studio's look like the All Stars? Can you look out your balcony to see Illuminations from the All Stars? Can you look over the Boardwalk? I don't think so...

Do you see posts on the resort board comparing the All Stars to the Yacht Club or the Poly? I don't think so... So why is it I see posts comparing the BWV & BCV studio's? I guess I don't get it... But I wanted to find out if perhaps I'm too sensitive to the question.... ???

UPDATE
Sorry guys, I posted & went out for a couple of hours... A couple of you guys knew what I was talking about though  My post is in regards to people posting financial comparisons between the All Stars & DVC Studio's, usually when they are trying to justify purchasing DVC... I just don't see where it is fair to compare the two, it's apples to oranges in my view, KWIM?

Sorry to not be so clear in my post!

I haven't seen the posts you're referring to, but I can't imagine anyone could compare the two ? I only have experience staying in the OKW studios (toured the VWL studios also) and I can flatly say they're nothing alike. The rooms are larger (particularily at OKW), there are balconies, you get the small mini kitchenette area with the mini frig & microwave, and the bathrooms are larger. And, as you stated chris1gill, the ambience at the All Stars, while colorful and playful, also can't compare with the atmosphere at the DVC resorts. I have stayed at the AS Movies three times and the AS Sports once, so I'm speaking from experience. Sorry, I don't see the comparison either

I haven't seen the All star comparisons either. The only things I've seen is when talking about financial feasibility of buying and this is mostly comparing to moderates which is a fair comparison in that situation. Particularly if the party interested may be staying at the moderates part of the time. One could make the same case for All Stars I suppose if a family normally stayed at the AS and were now thinking about DVC. While the rooms aren't comparable, the dollars comparison has some validity.

Hay if they want to stay in the All Stars, go for it. I'll take my DVC.

I don't think we have to feel like we need to defend our purchase, we know what we got and the enjoyment and vacations it brings us. If others aren't sure, they need to just work through thier doubt and make a decision. Meanwhile, my family and I will be enjoying wonderful vacations and time together through DVC, knowing we're not scrimping or splurging, but we've found a way to be able to afford the luxury accomodations far into the future.

My only comparisons are when people rent out their points for $10 or less a point, the renters are getting their studio for less than what a room cost at the All-Stars, and no tax.

I know what you're referring to chris1gill. I've only been in the forum here about two months but I've seen coutless posts where someone is asking for everyone to talk them into buying DVC and their signature has 5 trips to the All Stars and maybe a CBR/POR trip or two. If you pay $99/night in the high season and don't mindstaying at the All Stars, DVC is probably not for you. I like someone that posted yesterday referring to them as the Motel 6 of Disney.

I've never seen them compared. I don't think anyone could think they're in the same ballpark.

I haven't seen any of these types of comparisons. If I did, I would correct the comparison and point out that if there are comparisons to be made, then they should be made between the studio and the deluxe resort rooms. The deluxe rooms are the only rooms that are similar in size and have a balcony, but even then it's not an accurate comparison. There is no comparison to the other accommodations.

That's exactly how I view them. OK -- go ahead and call me a snob -- but I'm a very happy DVC snob!

Like Motel 6, All Stars is the right thing for some people, just not for me.

And beware, one of these days, they'll complete construction of the Pop Century resort, so there will be another basis for "comparison"!;)

C'mon folks, you can't see the comparison of the DVC properties to the AS resorts? Really! We all know the AS resorts offer kitchenettes, 1 and 2 bedroom condo's with balconies, washer and dryer's in the units, a beautiful view of the MK across the lagoon as well as a killer view of Epcot and Illuminations and heck even have several animals that wander over from Animal Kingdom!

Hmmmm, you all must be blind I guess!!!! ;)

Before we became DVC members we stayed mostly at the ASMo and once at CBR. The reason we did DVC is that there's NO comparison between even the studios and the All Stars. I agree that if it is totally a money issue and you like the rooms then DVC is not for you. But if it is great accomodations and many years of great family time and fun then it's for you. We have ot made our first trip home yet but are very excited to.

The all-stars are so far away, are they even on Disney property?

All-stars equals 24 hours of noise a day, six-eight people in every one of those tiny rooms. Children running around all hours of the day/night. Mass confusion all over the resort and over loaded buses. Long check in lines, so long they use turnstiles like at Space Mountain.

No comparison to DVC except for persons who do not know bettter.......

Oooohhh I forgot about the lines... You can extend that to the "moderates" too. I waited in line for 45 minutes to check in at CBR. I have never even SEEN a line at VWL or OKW at any time of day and they usually only have a few people at the counter. There were eight at CBR. The weekend there is what convinced my spoiled(by VWL) wife to get DVC.

I've never seen the comparison, but I would like to think that it's not necessary to bash the All Stars to make your point.

We've all been down the road where resort comparisons become very ugly.

Can we please keep this respectful out of consideration for those who do stay at the All Star resorts.

Thank you.

Having stayed at All Stars (and had a very good experience), and as one who would be willing to stay there again, there is NO comparison between All Stars and the DVC studio accomodations other than the fact that they both have two beds (in the case of OKW). The microwave, refrigerator, balcony, and extra room makes the DVC studio SO much more comfortable.

The only comparison I have used between the two was the price. We were able to purchase our DVC membership for what we were spending at the All Stars and CBR . While I do love these esorts, they are not the DVC- for all the reasons stated above. I still stay at them occasionaly when I run out of points. (Guess I need to buy more points.)

I have never seen the comparisons either but I think a fairer comparison would be a deluxe resort room to a DVC studio and even then the deluxe resort room falls short because the DVC studio has the kitchenette which comes in very handy for a morning cup of coffee or to keep drinks cold, etc.
BTW, I have nothing against the All Stars, I think they are the best value deal on WDW property if booking rooms through CRO with a discount, but there is no way an All Star room can even begin to compare to a DVC studio!

I think its more a matter of using it when people are questioning the dollar value. When the values are running specials, you can get a room at one of the All Stars for a very good price - less than the cost of DVC points. So, people who aren't sure about DVC need to be convinced that a DVC studio is a better value than a room at the All Stars.

While I find the All Stars perfectly adequate, I decided to invest in DVC because I felt I wanted more than just an adequate accommodation. So, for about the rack rate of a value resort room and the discounted rate for a moderate, I can get a larger and more luxuriously appointed Studio at one of the DVC resorts.

Now, as DVC members, we all know that a Studio is more akin to a Deluxe resort room than a Value or Mod. But when trying to explain the value of DVC to someone, I compare the acccommodation to a Deluxe but I compare the cost to a Value/Mod.

Hope that makes sense to someone other than myself, lol.

I have stayed at ASMu and ASMo a few times and my wife insists on comparing the "cost" of AS to DVC. I had to keep reminding her of the apples to oranges comparison of room accomodations. I had to use that line of reason to convince her to to purchase DVC, which happened Monday.

I will say though that I have never had a bad experience at the AS resorts. Yes it is more active. The food court was fine (for the cost). I had a MUCH better transportation experience at AS than my recent visit at BW. So much so that it was the only thing holding me up from going with the BCV.

Finally, I think Disney takes pride in all its resorts and publicly picking on one is not right. AS really serves its purpose. If Disney didn't have it, the ajoining resorts to the Villas would be a lot more crowded.
