Who else is sick of Political Threads?

And about interrupting a political thread with chocolate fluff stuff... ...Why would anyone want to start something like that, just because they don't like seeing a certain thread?!

Now that is childish.

Great post Saffron.

Okay, I just went and counted. :teeth: There are 7 political threads out of the first 200 threads on the first four pages of the CB.

I don't know Herc. . . The Great Punctuation War of 2000 was far more vicious and yet it raged on and on..

;)

Thanks WE3. . :) . . .and great post Maggie! :)

I'd just like to add that I don't begrudge anyone being tired of political discussion/debate/brawling. . I just have a problem with people trying to stop it. . and not say that's what the OP here was trying to do, but some definitely have., .

I'm tired of my brain hurting because you people are so dang smart. :p Stop it now, alright! ;)

That's the nicest attempt to shut us up yet Laurie. . very clever! :) :)

Uhhh... say. . have you ever you thought about running for office?

;)

:teeth:

LOL, nah, my past is a little too colorful, and there might even be pictures. :earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

I agree, the political group IS being targeted, because the threads more often than not get into debates and arguments and -- in the opinions of some posters at least -- do not tend to serve a purpose.

While I may not read links referring to death, illnesses, or what people's cats did today, I will say that those threads are probably quite theraputic to the people that post them, and to the people that respond. Some people like to help others during times of need, and some people need help as well.

Now if you can convince me that these political threads are theraputic in some way, you might be able to change my mind. ;)

But again, this is just my opinion.

The political thread can be theraputic. When I talk with my DH about politics he almost always plays devil's advocate and it can be quite frustrating. If I want to argue with someone I'd much rather it be a faceless person on the net than someone I have to share a bed with ;)

Overall I think the folks on both sides have respect for one another and enjoy bantering with each other. All it ever takes to show how much they actually agree with each other is one of these "I hate politcal threads" posts and they all are on the same side.

To a degree yes because it is the same arguments with the same people. How many times can the same stuff be argued? It's pretty clear that noone is going to change her/his stand. I think that is why one of the pol threads was overtaken with chocolate posts last night - out of frustration.

Actually that was a thread I started and just for the record...your childish and rude antics didn't and won't stop anyone from participating in political threads.

Frankly, if we can put up with daily thoughts from a dog, we can live with political threads.

Isn't that what a community is all about. Finding someone to communicate with. Be it political, social, fun, learning or PD'ing.

I welcome all threads, some I read, some I never open, some I roll my eyes at, some make me cry, some sad, some happy and some ruffle my feathers, but I cherish the freedom to choose which ones.

You sound like you're running for public office Cati! What's your position on abortion? Oops, don't want to open up that debate subject. Oops, again, I said the "d" word.

I'm sick of them and I rarely read them too. I know, I know, use the back button. But when I do read them, they are upset because people say such rude and nasty remarks to each other. The tone comes across nasty and unfriendly and sarcastic and belittling. I suppose there is nothing that can be done about them and I know people who love politics love debating, but you asked and I'm answering--yes! I'm sick of them.:(

I love that there is something for everyone here. I am not smart enough any more to participate in the political threads, but I read through one on occasion. Mostly because I am fond of the participants! Learn something evey once in a while, too!

There are threads I don't visit, because I am not interested. That is the fun in a community!

Some people do change their minds. I haven't changed my mind on who to vote for. Too many core issues to change that drastically. But I have softened a couple of my stances because of the debates.

Also, it isn't the debates that really irk people, I think. It is when anyone starts the name calling, pigeon-holing, ad hominem generalizations and general putting down. None of the above fit within the realm of intelligent debate. Trust me, most of us debaters don't like that crap either. Check the siggy! :)

I don't like the exchange threads. Tons of them, same thing, different "stuff." I thik we should get rid of them.

Or, you know, just accept that this is a community and different people like different topics.

They don't bother me in the least. The only thing I don't like about them is they cause bad feelings for other people, but personally, I don't care either way. I seldom let politics come between me and my relationship with anyone else; we can be at opposite sides of the spectrum politically and if you are my friend, I'll still love you at the end of the day. :)

Ok, I am guilty:( I participated in the Chocolate Fluff, but I was really hungry and I love chocolate. It was late at night, the kids were in bed and I was just craving chocolate. Sorry:)

I do think that alot of "mean" has settled down from the beginning, except for a few that are just in it to be rude. I dont think that any of us are going to change anyone's mind about who they vote for.

In regards to cat, people, depression, baby, etc. threads ---- well, this is a community board and I think everything is welcome here. I would not want anyone to be told they could not post what they want. I enjoy all of the post. I may not respond to all of them - depends on how much time I have. But there are WONDERFUL people here on this board.

I think the point is that displaced DB members don't start threads calling for an end to pixie dust, but we are occasionally picked on by people that don't like debates/political threads.

I don't read many P&PD threads. I do read some. Sometimes participate too. Sometimes, I even ask for some P&PD myself. There are, indeed, some wonderful people here on this board. Some of them are debaters! But I am 90% a debater. I live off of it. It entertains me. I conduct myself with respect and, I hope, intelligence.

I think all posts that are CIVIL should be welcomed by everyone. And threads that get uncivil should be vigorously moderated.

Yes, I am an armchair moderator, but I wield no real power. Kinda like Kerry in the upcoming election.

j/k!
