Who else is sick of Political Threads?

Yeah, well, I'm just sick of the "I'm just sick of the" "is anyone else sick of the__________threads?".

There are a lot of threads I have no interest in -- and I just don't read them. You can tell what a thread is going to be about -- usually. Sometimes someone starts a thread with Does anybody else hate.... and then you have to open it up to see what it's about (I usually don't). Otherwise, if the words "Bush" or "Kerry" are in the title and you don't want to talk about politics, simple solution!

My problem is with the religion threads. I shouldn't open them -- I know better. And yet so many people feel like they have the right to belittle other people's churches and faiths. In this case, I think I just open them to torture myself!

You know I find it pretty ridiculous that someone can be sick of one form of thread over another. You have the power to censor any thread you like by using your back button or not using buttons at all.

What is, however, bothering me a great deal and I want to make a bigger deal about it but feel it will probably die down and we will all go back to our lives after November, is the very disturbing trend of the political discussions.

Has anyone else noticed that the vitriolic diatribe many use against each other can be classified a certain way - hate. I believe that we have worked extremely hard to erradicate hate of another race, another group, and another person simply based on race, creed or beliefs. The tone of the debates really appears to me to be verging on the edge of hatred of another based upon nothing further than their political leanings. This is very distburbing to me. It is not a debate based upon facts, it is a full out hate war between two sects of people. I shudder to think of what December will be like.

This is not what we as Americans stand for.

I'm not into political threads-Monty Dog threads-exchange threads or game threads. This doesn't mean I have anything against the op's of these threads, I make the decision to not open them because they don't interest me.

Since we all have the option to open or ignore threads, honestly I don't understand the constant complaining from some people:confused:

They're probably all Republicans, all they ever do is whine......:teeth:

Turn about's fair play you know....;)

I was sick of them 3 months ago!!!!!!!!! I think we need the DB back. I am not sure what the point was of closing the DB and allowing the same type of nastiness to be on threads on the CB. Didn't seem to accomplish anything, IMHO.

UM yeah and I'll believe this when Donkey's start Flying:bounce:

Donkeys! :earseek:

You better use a more politically neutral animal. ;)

Great post Mamu! :wave2:

Why are political threads being targeted?

Why not remove the threads that have to do with ex's? Or advise on parenting. Or how about school supplies. My personal favorites are the threads that pit parents against non parents; working moms against stay at home moms; public schoolers vs home schoolers; on site vs off site; breast feeders against non breast feeders. The list is endless. Republicans vs Democrats or conservatives vs liberals is no different.

They've all been done before and they all end up the same way. If I don't like the subject of a thread I just don't open it.

To a degree yes because it is the same arguments with the same people. How many times can the same stuff be argued? It's pretty clear that noone is going to change her/his stand. I think that is why one of the pol threads was overtaken with chocolate posts last night - out of frustration.

He-he...that was me that started the chocolate tangent.

And yes, I feel very strongly in my political beliefs, but I have realized that I don't want to waste my energy here on the DIS standing up for them anymore. Better to share my thoughts with neighbors, friends and acquaintances. There are a few people in particular who I feel get downright nasty on these boards simply because someone does not see eye to eye with them. That turns me off big time to even opening the threads anymore. Also, I think since my DH was mobilized last week to go to Iraq, I take some of these things that people (mostly left leaning) are saying a lot more personally. I know I shouldn't, but when I start feeling angry reading the DIS Boards, I know it's time to step away and just not read them anymore.

Well, he-he, I hope it's just as funny when those that post on the political threads jump in and hijack the threads you do like.

It didn't bother me, but that doesn't mean it wasn't rude and childish. Posters have no right to throw threads off track because they don't like them.

And, I disagree. It wasn't out of frustration from having to read a title labled political once every 30 or threads. It was because you didn't like the point of view.

Actually, Peachgirl, to be 100% honest with you, do want to know why I posted about the Oreo Bon Bons?????????? Because another poster mentioned something about Cape May Cafe. Here's my train of thought being a pregnant woman who is craving sweets at the moment....

Oooo Cape May Cafe--->Oooo desserts----->OOOOOO Oreo BonBons----->Disney Board---->Can't resist saying something about them

And that's the honest to God's truth. So if you want to think it's just because I have sour grapes, you go right ahead. I don't care anymore.

Is this a debate about debates being on the CB?

I don't understand why so many people are against the debates political or otherwise. Just don't read them! There's plenty of threads on the CB that make me  or :( but I don't try to get people to stop posting those.

I just feel like I have no right to try to tell people what to talk about.

I'll look for a badge for you now that you want to be the 'board police'. Nearly every post on this board and the others go off in 37 tangents. What's a little chocolate between friends?

And, I disagree. It wasn't out of frustration from having to read a title labled political once every 30 or threads. It was because you didn't like the point of view. You can disagree til the cows come home but since it was my frustration and not yours, only I know why I was frustrated. I have said it over and over. Rarely does anyone post a pro-anything position; it's just snide comments and personal jabs and it's old!

Oh please, and your behavior was so adult like, right?

Thanks!

So quit reading the threads....it's called self control.

I think most of us would be lying if we said that we didn't take many of these political posts personally- politics is something that directly affects our daily lives (taxes, insurance, work issues, etc.), but perhaps none quite so directly as military families. I am one of the left leaning people posting on these boards and I do disagree with the war in Iraq and the foreign policies of this administration. But I hope you know that that position doesn't prevent me and others from feeling the utmost respect and gratitude for those who chose to serve in the military. Best of luck to your DH.
