i was wondering who else is sick of reading about politics and stuff on the community board. At first it was alright but people just keep on going its starting to get old and boring. Anyone else agree?

I agree. Its all pointless anyway.

Fourty-Six percent of the people think that GW will destroy the US if re- elected. The same % feel the same about Kerry.

Posting on those threads will never change anyone's mind. There is no intellectual debate because we are so polarized. What one side posts as facts is seen as lies by the other.

The only reason for posting is to see how mad you can make the other side.

I wish they would bring back the debate board so they would stop taking up the bandwidth on the community board.

To a degree yes because it is the same arguments with the same people. How many times can the same stuff be argued? It's pretty clear that noone is going to change her/his stand. I think that is why one of the pol threads was overtaken with chocolate posts last night - out of frustration.

I am sick of threads that say they are sick of political threads.

Don't open them. It is pretty easy to tell what is political and what isn't.

Sick of political posts? How about all the "my cat has a hairball" threads? How about the multiple threads on reality television shows? As they say - if you don't like them, then just don't read them.

Yes, political threads sometimes go down the same hate them-love them route. But, at times, an intelligent discussion breaks out, and I learn something. Can you say that about a lot of the other threads on the Community Board? No, you cannot.

I don't like the political threads because they're all the same. They all turn into ugly debates where people start bashing each other, and it's not like anyone's going to change their minds about who they're going to vote for.

I think alot of the negative reaction to political threads on this board is due to the fact that people come here to be reminded of the fun associated with WDW and to get away from the real world, not be reminded of our vast political differences. Even if you see the link but don't read it, it still reminds you of what's going on out there.

I don't have a problem with people posting political threads, but I do agree that they should be moved to a debate board of some kind.

My .02 worth.

Its an election year and there's no where else to put them. What do you expect?

I could buy that argument if someone was requesting only happy threads be allowed. There are plenty of sad stories posted here every day....sickness, death, vents...some days I can deal with them, other days I do not open them. To complain about political threads because they are not full of pixie dust and ignore the others makes it quite clear only one group is being targeted.

In total agreement, unfortunately we're beating a dead horse on this one. Just wait till October, it'll get really bad.

That may be why you come here and it may even be why many people come here.

But some people come here for the political threads and they enjoy sparring with those that have vast political differences -- even if they know no minds are going to be changed. They deserve to have their space in the "community" just as much as everybody else.

i dont really mind the political threads, i just dont like seeing people knock people down for what they believe or who they are going to be voting for. Everyone has there own opinions to things, why cant everyone be nice to each other? :bounce: ::yes::

Personally, I think it is energizing to see so many fans of WDW to be active political thinkers, whatever side they are on. And, I think if you read these threads closely, you'll find that most aren't posting to try to change other people's minds, but to challenge and solidify thier own thinking and position. It's a dialogue, and communication generates knowledge.

Politics is all around us, in fact, even in WDW. Think of "It's a small world"- very political, ideological statement. What about the ideas of progress thrown around in Tomorrowland or Epcot? You might think of WDW as an escape from political realities, which is fine, but that doesn't mean they aren't there.

I agree, the political group IS being targeted, because the threads more often than not get into debates and arguments and -- in the opinions of some posters at least -- do not tend to serve a purpose.

While I may not read links referring to death, illnesses, or what people's cats did today, I will say that those threads are probably quite theraputic to the people that post them, and to the people that respond. Some people like to help others during times of need, and some people need help as well.

Now if you can convince me that these political threads are theraputic in some way, you might be able to change my mind. ;)

But again, this is just my opinion.

I'm tired of the political threads too. I don't read them anymore. Sometimes, I wish the debate board was still up and running. ;)

Hmmmmm. .

Well I've seen vicious arguments concerning the "Magic" about Refillable mugs, which resort is better, Universial V. WDW, pool hopping, parking, blowing bubbles in while waiting in line at WDW, strollers; taking your shoes off when you go into someone else's house; breastfeeding. .

And yet debates on choosing who will lead our country in the next four years offends some people?

Hmmmm. . .

What's wrong with political threads? People can learn from reading the postings or links that are posted on these threads. Do you really think things would change if there was a "Debate Board?" I don't think so, because "Community Board" members would read the threads on the "Debate Board" and return to the "Community Board" to complain about the threads on the "Debate Board."::yes::

But that's what other's think about the television threads and the dog and cat threads, and the picture threads etc.

I've been here quit awhile now, on the CB as an active member, and it's the same threads, over and over and over. They're new and orginal for the newer folks, but they're the same old, same old for those of us who have been around for awhile.

I love that the DB and CB have combined. I've met interesting people and I've been able to voice my opinion, yes in some cases over and over again. But that's what EVERYBODY on the CB does, or the DIS does for that matter, every single time they post!

Great post rcyannacci!

And about interrupting a political thread with chocolate fluff stuff, I swear, some would have had a fit! if any of the "DB people" tried to do that to a fluff thread with Kerry or Bush stuff! ::yes:: Since the "DB people" have come over to the CB, they've been kind enough to label posts and leave their political debates on threads that were made for that. Why would anyone want to start something like that, just because they don't like seeing a certain thread?!

Hmmmm. . .

The great breastfeeding debate. Now THAT was a debate to remember. I don't think something like that could last here on the CB. People are much to thin skinned.
