Who else is job hunting right now?

I have an interview on Monday! Its not for an attorney position but beggars can't be chosers and it pays fairly well.

Good luck on your 2nd interivew babytrees!

ohhhh!!! It sounds like things might actually be looking up for us...espescially next week.:thumbsup2 Good luck all!!

This is when you are given a chance to reiterate what you have to bring to the table, your professional strengths and weaknessesl. They could care less about you personally. I will share a story my executive sister shared with me. She had just finished a great interview with a potential candidate for a 175,000 year job. The last question was " is there anything else you would like to tell me?" idiot interviewee responded " I love rainbows and unicorns". My sister immediately told her the interview was over and then left the room and burst out laughing. She was so surprised by this response, and then immediately wrote unsuitable candidate on all the forms. She often shares this story with folks. I use it as an example as I am a corporate trainer who specializes in business English.
TomtheBarnCat-- THAT IS SO FUNNY! I will remember this story and blame you if my subconscious blurts out the same answer during an interview.:rotfl:

It is too funny but sadly it is true, my sister was really bummed because on paper she looked great and the interview was going fairly well until that question. I use the term "rainbows and unicorns" alot as a business trainer. It is fun when we role play and I have them ask me this question. I use her response, and europeans generally are surprised at this response. One student said "why would you say that?" so, there we are...

hilarious!! Thanks for the advice

I usually use the time of tell me about yourself explaining what I did during my breaks in "working"...I am an avid volunteer and find that I am able to show up some of my skills that way....if I wasn't organized I wouldn't be able to feed 100+ people every Saturday during band season. If I wasn't flexible or think on my toes, I wouldn't be able to handle the things that come up during those feedings, including tornado force winds and trying to keep 8 ez-ups from blowing away with 2 people. :rolleyes1

To answer the question your sister posed: "I am ready to hit the ground running."

Which is good because what you wrote shows that you are motivated, caring, a team player with excellent organizational skills. Volunteering, is a great way to describe what you have to bring to the table. I also like your response of hitting the ground running!! You are probably an absolute delight to interview. My sis hates interviewing but she is the dean of a medical school so for key positions, she has no choice but to be the final hiring authority. These stories and ideas are great ways to find out what is really working in this process and what will get your application stamped reject.

hi all. definitely in the same boat. :headache:

it's so depressing to graduate from college and not be able to find something. right now i'm working a part-time job taking care of outdoor plants, but that will be ending in 12 days. i also do some catering, but it's not a regular gig.

i did have a phone interview today, and i'm meeting the same woman again on Monday in person. she was super super super nice and i really enjoyed talking to her, but OH was i nervous! i feel like i'm just blabbering sometimes, i seriously can't believe she never was like, "OK, you just talked for 10 minutes, can you please answer my question now?"

i reaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy hope i get this job. it's management training in a well-known international company, and the more research i do about them, the more i am impressed by their business model. My degree is in Political Science, but i have been leaning towards private sector work, and while i know i want to get my Master's eventually, i kind of screwed myself over by not getting good grades my last semester, so i really need some work experience in order to get accepted into any programs. i'm soo mad at myself for that now...

ugh. i could go on. but i know you all feel my pain. good luck everyone!

How's everyone doing this week? I had an interview on Monday but the ad was misleading and I knew by the end of the interview that I did NOT want this job (way overworked and underpaid). That was a bummer. However, I got a phone call today to come in for an initial screening for a job that I really, really want. In fact, I think this is only the second job I have applied for that I think I would be really happy doing, so wish me luck! I know they will be doing a second round of interviews with a full committee so I hope I can make it to that round. I'm afraid my age (25) and my lack of paid management experience may work against me, but I have managed multiple committees with large budgets comprised of both students and faculty members....lol, I sound like I'm in an interview now.

I hate those misleading ads...I had one of those interviews...one of the few times I was glad to not be called back. :rotfl:

There have been no jobs for me to apply for this week (I've been busy with volunteer work this week but still slim pickings).

My 2nd interview with Maui Wowi is tomorrow morning.....I am getting super nervous. This is the first time with a job that I've wanted it from the beginning and being interviewed only heightened my desire to work there!!

It is so funny, DH applied for a job way back on 8/26...we never heard anything, job posting was taken down...ok, on to the next. Yesterday, he received an email with a "pre-interview questionnaire" for him to fill out!

He has some other things cooking so we are keeping our fingers crossed it won't be a 6+ month lay off. Good luck all!

Well, I had my first two days of work this week and I really like it! I'm so happy to be teaching without all the BS of classroom management. :lmao: Actually, I haven't started teaching on my own yet, but the one instructor who's class I'm taking over let me do it all today (it's an adult computer class).

I only have 15 hours a week right now, but hopefully that will change.

Hey all, it's me again.

I actually got the second job where I screwed up the interview!

Between the 15 hours at my instructor job and however many cases I want to take with the second job, I can end up being full time. I've already got my first case and I'll go in on Tuesday to get all the paperwork and find out more details.

I can't believe I got that job!

That's really great! Congratulations!!!

Didn't I tell you that it's feast or famine with jobs? Enjoy your feast!

that is wonderful news!!!:cool1::cool1:

My second interview is done....I think it went welll...but as I keep telling everybody I've given up trying to figure it out because I've obviously been wrong a few dozen times. :lmao:

Congrats Mushy!! How exciting!

Babytrees--good luck! I know what you mean about trying to read people, sometimes (well, most times) its just impossible.

I had an interview today that I think went extremely well and I would LOVE the job. The lady said she would be doing a second round of interviews late next week so here's hoping I get the call back!

I have really good news to share!! I had my first interview yesterday and I got a call for a second interview this morning!! Its been less than 24 hours since my first interview so I think this is a great sign! I'm so excited, I got off the phone and did a happy dance in my living room. I only had the dogs here to share in my excitement since, fortunately, Dbf has a job and is at work. So my second interview is Wednesday at 11. Wish me luck!

Disneylover79--please join. I think this thread is a great sounding board and its nice to know you aren't alone in the thoughts and feelings that come along with being unemployed.

Congrats to everyone who found jobs or had great interviews! :goodvibes

I don't think I did so well on mine the other day. This morning I received an email from my interviewer, which said only "It was a pleasure to meet you, and thank you for your interest in the position." I just hope I wasn't too bad of a reflection on my DBF...I kind of feel like I let him down, too.

[Sorry, I don't know how to properly cut and paste on the boards] pirateslifeforme... don't feel too badly. Sometimes it has nothing to do with you personally but so many other factors that play into interviews and job hunting. Here's hoping the next one works better. And I'm sure your DBF only wants the best for you as well.:grouphug:

 Hopefully this just means that there's a better position waiting for you elsewhere! I know it's hard, but I've been trying to think that way all along this past year and a half.

Hey Mushymushy -- BIG CONGRATS TO YOU! :cool1::banana:
