Who else gets emotional at school events?

Hmmmmmm...Saphire, I wonder if we were at the same high school play? My Dneice is a senior and had her last play performance last night.

Mouseteacher, if "you've got rhythm", then we both saw the same wonderful show!

Hey everyone, thank-you for sharing your thoughts on this, your responses made me tear up, lol. I am glad to know you are all out there. I wish I could tone down my sentiment to be able to fully engage in these events, but it seems to be getting worse as my kids get older. I will have to try the pinching, never thought of that remedy. :)

That would be me. And, I NEVER remember to bring a tissue!:( You'd think I'd learn, too.:)

My son's 6th grade graduation is coming up. He started there as a 3 year old, and my daughter started in prekindergarten in 1988. I've had a child in this school for 17 straight years!

The week before graduation, they have a "flying" chapel. (little birds leaving the nest) Groups of children put on a skit expressing their feelings about leaving the school and going on to several different schools. All of the 6th graders and their parents sit in the balcony for weekly chapel. (The 3 year olds get the front pews, with the next grade behind them, and so on. The 5th graders get the last pews, and the 6th graders get the balcony) At the end of chapel, the people turn and face the balcony, and sing the "Irish Blessing" (May the road rise to meet you, etc, ending with "until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand") to the 6th graders. THAT'S when I'm going to lose it!

Your post "got me"....waahhhh that sounds so wonderful...

I started to cry a few weeks ago at the jog-a-thon at school!! :sad1: No speeches, no national anthem, just kids out there running laps. (Just so you all don't think I'm totally nuts, I was a little melancholy wishing my parents (both have passed) were there to see my kids. Amy

I sure don't think you're nuts! Just thinking about grandparents not being able to be at events can do it for sure. My dad died when my first was an infant and knowing that he hasn't been at any of my kid's events has made me very sad throughout the years.

*mental note, bring sedative* ;)

Yeah - when my older son won the award as "Actor of the Year", you betcha I cried! And then, when he was one of the speakers at Graduation a few weeks later - I cried again! My younger son thanks me for never crying at any of his sporting events!!

:rotfl2: You sound like my mom. She cries at parades! She says it's the drums!! :rotfl2:

I don't have kids of my own but I cry for my students. It's so embarassing - graduations, choir competitions, plays, basically any little accomplishment starts the water works . I can't help it though, I just cry when I'm happy.

Saphire, yes, indeed, "I've Got Rhythm" and "somebody to watch over me", too! :teeth:

It was a terrific show --- such talented kids. :cheer2:

If my dds are in any concerts or plays at school they make me promise that i won`t cry... :teeth:...I used to be worse when they were little, you know in the christmas nativities, harvest festivals etc...I just can`t` help myself... :wave2:

Yes, I'm one of those also. My youngest will be graduating high school next month (where have the years gone?) and as soon as Pomp and Circumstance starts playing, I will be crying. I have done it at each graduation or special school event.

I do all the time. Of course, I'm sure I'll be a mess at my son's Graduation next month. :(

I didn't cry at the hockey games or the football games but I cried watching Travis perfom with the orchestra and in the plays. The pride just swells in your heart and makes you cry, I think.

I definately am a crier at my kids' events. When older DS had senior week and we went to the sports banquet and the scholarship night, I had tears in my eyes the whole time. Forget graduation, it was waterworks time. Even when he decided what college to go to, I was teary eyed. When we leave him off at college in the fall, and the spring, I drench the poor kid in tears as I hug him good bye. He has to remind me he is only 2 hours away and comes home alot. I think it is a sign we are proud of our kids and their accomplishments.

Last night my dance team had our spring show (it was where we performed all of these dances to a certain theme, "Love Will Find a Way"), and one of our songs we danced to was "Wind Beneath My Wings." We did this as a tribute to our parents, and at the end, we passed out roses to our moms. All of us were sobbing sooo hard! My mom started crying when she hugged me, and that just made me cry! Some said their dad was even crying!! After the very last dance (It's a kick routine that we do every year, a long tradition!), the seniors are recognized and we all started crying again. I'm not a senior, but if I was crying last night I can only imagine how bad it will be in two years!!
