Who else forgot the quarters?

I am older than 49 and I've never heard of it.

Same here I will be 53 very soon and never heard of it.

Oh by the way, Tag Fairy 52 soon no longer will be scaring me.

My Mom was from Belfast Ireland and the only thing I remember from her growing up was someone "first footing" you. The first none family member to enter your home after midnight on the New Year must be dark haired if not you would have bad luck for that year. Dark haired people was good luck.

I remember one year my aunt came over and she was blond. Mom made her wait out on the porch until another dark haired family arrive.

what? I didn't forget, I had no idea this is something I was supposed to do? If I mark my doors with quarters will Dick Clark passover my house instead of showing up on my tv? Why do you do this?

Oh lordy....that line is great...I think Mr Clark needs to retire...or something...

My grandmother was British and we had to great the New Year with a piece of shortbread in our mouth and a silver dollar in our hand.

49, this was a tradition growing up in Pa.

I grew up in PA also, so that is were I learned it. I thought maybe it was Pennsylvania Dutch or something, but I couldn't find anything online that mentioned putting quarters on the doors and windows.

My grandmother grew up with her grandparents, who were from Edinburgh, Scotland. Their superstition was that a blonde male had to be the first person to step over the threshold after midnight. Gram was a brunette. One year when she was a teenager, she came home after midnight, and her grandfather wouldn't let her in! Her grandmother made her climb in through the kitchen window...
