Who else finds the value resorts completely unappealing?

We did one on a dirt-cheap college trip. $350 got us the bus ride down from Ohio, park tickets, and rooms, so I can't complain that much. But we have jobs now, so I think I'm pretty much done with the Values.

I have to agree with several previous folks. It was very much like a motel, and a crazy busy one at that. I do have to say that I liked the food court, (where else I'm'a get a rice krispie square the size of my head?) but that even it was super-busy and crowded.

So we'll continue to do the upper-level ones, even though it costs a heckuva lot more.

A trip to Disney World is special and where we stay makes a BIG difference to us. No values. We'd stay home if that was our only option. We want a resort, not a motel. And I'm a concierge/room service kind of gal at heart. We've been going to WDW for 28 years, and we've never stayed in less than a deluxe or DVC. I'm hoping we never have to.

We think that they can be fun. We've tried many different resorts and the values just add to the variety. Never had a problem with crowds as we try and go during the slow times of the year.

I think my young children would love the value resorts but we don't stay in value because DH hates sleeping in a double bed. Which makes me glad that we rent points and stay DVC for value prices!

Well, I'll guess I'll be the contrarian. I've only been to WDW 3 times. The first 2 times (2000,2004), we stayed at All Star Movies. This year we stayed at POFQ. My DS and DD both agree with me when I said the extra $50 per night wasn't worth it. Yes, it was nice not to see a long line to the food court in the morning just because you didn't get there before 7:30 but I didn't think the food was that great. No better than what you'd get at an All Stars food court.
But, then again, maybe it's just that when I go on vacation the place I stay at is mostly just for sleeping and taking a shower. Other than that, we're out the door around 7:30 and don't come back till the parks close.
My only exception to that is when we go to the Smoky Mountains in TN where we rent a condo on the side of a mountain. The view is so relaxing (especially when the sun comes up over the mountains in the morning) that I like to just sit outside and enjoy the view.

How do the large icons keep you from relaxing?
Maybe they have nightmares about being attacked by Rubik's cubes?

Seriously though, the 1st poster had an opinion. Good for it.
I think it all depends on what is important to you. I like value, I like Mod, and I like Deluxe. In September, we will try a DVC resort for the 1st time...

I will say that I have never probably spent enough time at any resort....

My DH and I have not stayed at any of the values and have no desire to do so. When we go on vacation, I want things like room service and valet parking. :)

I haven't read a single post on this thread because I love the value resorts as well as the deluxe and moderate resorts. The resort experience is as much what you put into it as what you get out of it. Sharing the magic with other guests and with the CMs is what makes my stays special, not the type of resort I am staying in. Every morning I make eye contact with as many people as I can and with a big smile on my face offer them a GOOD MORNING. I have never yet gotten any response other then a return smile and a GOOD MORNING in return.

I have never stayed at a value resort but it reminds me more of a "motel". They look cheesy to me. I would rather save my money to be able to stay at a moderate or deluxe.

We are not fans in the least but our kids are. DH and I swear each time we will not be back but change our minds. You have to admit, they are fun! Tacky, but fun - especially from the eyes of a 7, 5 or 2 year old!! You know that you are "in" Disney when you stay there. I can't say the same for some of the other resorts. ;)

Count me in!! I gave the value resorts a try (ASMo) after hearing such GREAT things about them. We stayed there our last night (transferred from POFQ) and it was HORRIBLE!!! I will NEVER NEVER stay in a value resort again. POFQ is the best!!!

I think the value resorts appeal mainly to the little kids. I have a DD13 :earsgirl: who has no desire to stay there. My DS5 :earsboy: thinks they look cool.

In September, we will try a DVC resort for the 1st time...

If you aren't already a member, watch out! After the first time we stayed in a DVC villa, we came home and joined. It'll definitely spoil you for anything else on site. You'll love it.

I can see how some people like them, but I just don't think they're for me. I plan on taking a solo trip for my b-day in nov. and was pricing them. It really isn't that much more for a mod, and they just look more to my liking than the values. If I were going with my family then maybe we would choose a value. They look cute for kids, but not for me.

I like Pop Century & ASmovies but the others have no appeal to me.
CBR has no appeal to me.
Grand Floridian has absolutely no appeal to me, nor does Yacht & Beach clubs (except I like the pool) or Old Key West.

:confused3

I prefer AKL, or POR.

I've never stayed at one and I have little desire to. They obviously have a purpose, but our budget allows for a bit more creature comfort and convenience. We have a goal of staying at every WDW resort, so eventually, we'll either have to try them on for size or just exclude the values from the list. I did not care for CBR but I liked POFQ. Maybe AS* or Pop will surprise us.

Everytime I plan a trip to Disney I want to try the Values, but end up changing my mind when I look at the pictures. When I am done with all the "sensory overload" in the parks, the thought of looking at larger-than-life icons does not appeal to me.

I choose POR the first time I went to Disney because I thought it looked quiet and peaceful and spread out. I was right! It was totally relaxing. I have never stayed in a Deluxe because I am perfectly satisfied with a moderate. I like an outside entrance and plenty of space to go running in the morning.

On the other hand, the values look like brightly colored dorms. I think if I stayed for 3 or 4 nights,I could do it. 7 nights would just be too much! I would have a headache.

I'm glad there are people who like all of the different types of resorts. To each his own!

I'll try a value someday - just wait! :wizard:

My wife and have stayed in the values, moderates, offsite and deluxe. Of course there is no going back after AKL. I want to stay there everytime now. But I would take a value over offsite anytime, but I would choose a moderate, preferably POFQ way above the AS resorts. They are just to crowded and noisy. Hopefully I will always be able to afford the mod or dlx. But who knows if I have withdrawls long enough I might stay anywhere in close proximity.

I stayed at the ASMo for three nights and was not impressed. I like more green grass and flowers and less concrete. Also the walls were pretty thin. I couldn't sleep well due to the delivery trucks that were outside my window every morning. I would probably stay off site before I would stay at a value again.
