Who Does Laundry While At WDW?

I always take the fold up (net) clothes hamper things and put it in the bathroom and anyone who needs something washed before we leave puts it in the basket. Then I tell everyone what day I will be washing clothes just in case someone has forgotten to put something in it.I always take the washing tablets and dryer sheets from home (I only use the tablets for vacations,so I always have some on hand, sometimes they are a little hard to find). Then I wash either late at night or during the day when I've come back to the room to get a break from the heat. Those cheap folding baskets are great to take with you, then when you are ready to go home, fold it up and put back in the suitcase.Folding clothes basket, washing tablets and dryer sheets.Almost forgot the best thing to carry with you at all times is the little pens you put on your stains and they take them right out, like the Tide one.Worth taking in your backpacks, etc. We used it while waiting in line several different times, take out stains and doesn't take out the color of your clothes.Love it.

I have never done laundry on vacation. We will be at WDW for 9 days, but are driving - 3 days each way. I think I'm going to have to squeeze some :laundy: into my itinerary - really don't want to, though. I plan on washing our dirty clothes from the drive there to wear on the drive back and probably any other clothes that gather up to that point. We are staying at Pop - how long does a load take to do and how much $$ is it?

I do laundry at Disney, especially in the summertime. The thought of packing up sweaty smelly clothes is too much. We stay at the SOG and they have nice laundry facilities. :teeth:

We stay about a week(6-7 days) and I do a few loads of laundry about halfway through. There are 5 of us, including a messy toddler. I hate packing lots of clothes, but I usually do anyway(I sneak in extra for me, because I'm so indecisive :teeth: ). I take fabric softener sheets from home in a baggie, and buy a small trial bottle of detergent to take with me. I also buy a collapsible hamper from the dollar store(for 1$!!!!!) and leave it there when we come home. It's great for carrying the clothes to the laundry room.

As far as going in December...I'd definitely watch the forecast for Orlando right up until you're ready to leave. It can be hot, warm, or extremely cold. The one Dec. we went, the temps ranged anywhere from the low 60's to the low 30's. We were FREEZING at the MK one night. There was no hot chocolate to be found anywhere, and we had to cut our night short. It was awful. Going to WDW this time of year is probably the one time it will be almost impossible to pack light. We definitely needed more than one sweatshirt a person.

It is nice to see the decorations....have a great trip!! :)

If you do laundry, you can take less clothes. HOw about:

2 short
2 pants
4 tees
1 swim
3 pairs of undies

This will give you what you need w/o overpacking. If you see a tee that you like then get it.

I like doing laundry (on a 10 day trip), 1/2 way through and then just before we go home, so everything is clean to be put back in the drawers and closets.

Laundry on vacation-NO WAY!!! Just like I tell my DH for:

1 week I don't do laundry
1 week I don't have to cook
1 week I don't have to make beds

$2,500.00 PRICELESS

We recently started doing laundry on vacation and it is nice. Much less packing. And now with a son, it is necessary! We also stay DVC, so that makes doing laundry much easier. We usually do it on our afternoon break while we are hanging out at the pool. It doesn't take long at all. December is hard to pack for though, you really need to take a little of everything...Definitely not a month you can pack light for.

Oh Yeah, we DEFINATELY do laundry! there are 5 of us and by the time we get back from the parks or swimming etc. we need two outfits a day. I have to admit that some of the laundry facilities scare me! :bitelip: they can be very tiny and cramped with no air....kinda like being in a sub! :rotfl2: we are staying at the Poly in October and I've been told that their laundry room has plenty of space so when I do my laundry at night, I can relax. HAVE FUN! Helen

we're DVC members and get a 2bedroom each trip(family of 6), so we have the luxury of a washer/dryer in our room. That said, I do a load every day while we're there. I usually start it in the evening while we're relaxing and then pop it in the dryer to dry while we're sleeping. Then I turn it on again in the morning so that if there's anything in there we want to use it's nice and toasty.

What I can't figure out is why is doing laudry at WDW so much more enjoyable than doing it at home??? :confused3

I enjoy doing laudry at WDW! Have I lost my mind???!! :rotfl:

We stayed at the Pop last December. We were only there for a week, but we needed some specific clothes for something, so I volunteered to do laundry around 9pm on night. Never again.

First of all, it seemed that the entire resort had decided to do laundry that night. It took 45 minutes for me to get an empty washing machine. The wash took about 30 minutes, and the dryer a little longer. (I got lucky on the dryer, but I saw other people waiting with their wet clothes.) I had not planned on doing laundry, so we didn't bring anything from home. One small load cost me $5.00 in machines and soap.

As far as dressing for December goes, it almost depends on where you're from. I noticed the the OP was from Texas. I'm not positive, but this means that he or she is used to warmer weather. Therefore, if the temperature dips a bit, it'll feel really cold. DW, DD6 and I hail from Pittsburgh. We were wearing shorts and t-shirts while some people were wearing winter coats. A lot of it is what you're used to.

We do laundry 2 times in ten day stay and pack much less. I'm a early riser so i get up and do it before we go to the park.

Please make sure that you bring a stocking cap and gloves for each member of your family. Mornings and evenings can be cold! We prefer layers when we go in December. We don't wash the outer layers after each day.

Have fun! :)

for me... doing laundry is like a little relaxation in itself. My husband and kids hang out at the pool or at the gameroom or even at the marketplace and I have a couple of hours to myself. (even though it is with laundry.) But, its better to not pack alot because you will always need room for souveniors to bring home in your suitcase.

But I'm going to have to this trip in Dec. We'll be gone 11 days with a 2 & 4 year old. I've never done it on vacation - cause I'm on vacation - so I'm not looking forward to it. But, realistically, I don't want to pack that much for 4 people, plus they probably won't even own enough pants to last that long. I'm thinking of doing it during an afternoon nap break for the kids - is that a good time to do it? We'll be at CSR.

I rarely do laundry when I'm not on vacation. (yes, me big dirty man)
:lmao:

No seriously, I pack all the clothes I'll need and a few spare items just in case. There's no way I'm doing laundry on vacation.

Couple tips I'll share though!

Always carry a clean shirt in your car to change into after a long hot sweaty day in the parks.
Always keep a clean dry pair of socks in your car, just in case.
Always care a spare pair of shoes handy, just in case.

Hi
OP here again.
I grew up in SC and have lived in TX for the past 8 years. I can't remember wearing a coat before January in TX at all. I guess I have been lulled into thinking that FL's weather was more like TX.

Still of all the trips I took growing up in Nov. or Dec. I only remember one unusually cold one and we just wore sweatshirts. I was thinking take one sweatshirt each and then if it is cold buy one for each. I like to buy sweatshirts because they last so long. Esp. since they are only used a few days a year here. Maybe I'm just an unusually warm natured person.

My kids are 14 and 11 so its impossible to predict what sizes they will be in Dec. I'm really working on my budget (in case one or both of them hit a growth spurt and have to have new clothes right before we go).

I hope to be a Vacation Club member one day - but for now I'm happy to be staying at a value resort. Last trip we stayed at CBR, this time we are staying at Music and using the difference we saved to fly instead of drive.

Thanks for the input. I am growing fonder of this board every day!

Kaye

I think you will be fine with a sweatshirt for each person. We went in January and that is all we took. Only used the sweatshirts a couple of nights after the sun went down.

Answering your question about doing the wash.......I always wash before we come home. Such a good feeling to come home with clean clothes and no wash to do right away.

I hate doing laundry on vacation and since most of our trips are ten days or so we seldom do. I always pack one outfit per day plus one extra shirt and one extra set of underwear per person and that covers pretty much what we need. :cool1:

However this trip will be 20 days and unless I buy an extra entire wardrobe (not gonna happen) there is no way we have enough clothes so we will HAVE to do laundy. Who am I kidding I will be doing laundry. :rotfl2:

On a past trip we added two days to our trip and I just went to the nearest WM and bought a couple of extra sets of underthings. You can deal with dirty clothes but NOT underthings. :dance3: It was well worth it and probably did not cost as much as it would have to have done laundry on site. :lmao:

Slightly Goofy

I am a solo Disney traveler. I usually do from 8 to 9 full days. I try to do laundry one time, about half way thru. What is nice is, at least at the All Star and Pop, is the laundry is by the pool, so I can put the wash in, and just sit and relax by the pool... :laundy:

Why can't laundry at home be this pleasurable :goodvibes
