Who do you write your journaling to/for?

I am almost finished with my Disney album and realized that I have been writing everything as if I am writing to my children. People in the photos are identified as Mom, Dad, Grandma etc... not by our real names.

In looking back at other pages I have done, some I am talking directly to my kids, saying things like "you were so cute in this dress" and in others I am more detached "Susie had such a great time at the fair". Sometimes I use our names and other times just Grandma, Dad etc..

Do you have a certain voice that you use? Do you keep a particular audience in mind when you are writing your stories/journaling?

Nope, same as you - I bobble back and forth. Although I'm trying to stick to 3rd person for my new book... I bet I'll forget though.

It depends on where the journaling is as well as the album.

My 30th birthday album I did in first person- from my point of view.

My general Disney albums are generally written in 3rd person but occasionally I slip into more of a first person outlook.

For albums I make for nieces and nephews they are written with that person descriptions of people in mind.

For my general family albums I do a more third person but I have hidden journaling that is more specific and can be first person.

My fuller thoughts I tend to use hidden journaling for as opposed to journaling out for everyone to see.

My puppy albums I journalled as though the puppies would be the ones reading them and in first person for them.

Interesting question! I usually write in the third person... I call myself Mom and DH Dad. Most of the albums are directed at my children, since that is who I am doing them for (and their kids, etc). If I think that my nicknames are confusing, I might add the person's first name in parentheses. For the Project 365 album I have written from my perspective, in the first person. The only time there might be confusion is when I call DH "Dad" and then sometimes I call my dad "Dad" (but I have tried to clarify it when I do that). Usually I call my Dad "Grampa".

While I don't label EVERY photo with the names of the people in them, I try to include a name map with large group photos. I figure someday my grandchildren and great-grandchildren might not know which one is "Aunt Carol" and which one is "Aunt Linda" and which one is Cousin Gail. :confused3 Right??..................P

I do a little of this and a little of that, depending on what the LO is and the mood I'm in. Sometimes I catch myself using first person, mostly I make an effort to use third person.

When I did the small album of my DS' skull surgery, I wrote most of it to him. My feelings are there, it's all there for all to read, except for my feelings about the plastic surgeon. I did not care for him, but I did cover that journaling up about a year ago (it's been almost five years since his surgery).

I try to use each person's actual name somewhere in the album. If I'm doing a soccer page, or a bday party, I make sure all the kids are named somewhere, but not each picture they're in on the page.

All my albums are journaled liek I am talking ot my good freinds and family that I show it off to. We don't have kids, so that's nto an issue. I htink doing them like you are talkign ot your kids sounds wonderful. I have been known to juggle myself, though.

I di dhave a huge break through this weekend. I was having a hard time starting the journaling for teh Richard Petty Driving Experience I gave my dh. So, I aslked if he wanted to journal it and he did!!!! Can't wait ot see what he writes!
