Who do we have here from Chicagoland?

I know where Hegewisch is !!! and have been there many time, of course I grew up on the south side of the city... My dad had a real estate office at 98th and Ewing..

We are in NW suburbs now - Palatine - and I work in Sears Tower..

Ding Ding Ding! Five points! :cool1:

Hi former neighbor! So where did you go to high school? I went to Bishop Noll but DH went to Washington (which seems to be your neck of the woods).

And you took the same path we did (just jumped off sooner). It seems most people from the south side went to northwest Indiana. They never venture out further northwest than O'Hare. They think Rockford is the end of the Earth.

HEY! Thems be fightin' words! :teeth:

Actually - Rockford, now home of the Greater Northwest Chicagoland Airport (or whatever we call it now), has cheap, hassle-free air service to Orlando-Sanford. :cheer2:

I know the original post was about Chicagoland. I replied early on, and then later on it was suggested that there were only two answers actually inside the city limits. I remember as a child, I am now 57, most of these suburbs, either, were not, or were very sparsely populated. The expressways were not built yet, and when you said Chicago, that is what you meant.

My grandson and I were reading this post yesterday and counting all the different suburban locations. We noticed that the majority of answers are from suburban locations. Whatever, Chicago or Chicagoland, there are millions of us. As long as we don't all descend on the Disney Parks on the same day.

Wait, that's a great idea. As a tribute to Walt Disney. Prove you are from Chicago, and you get in the park free on his birthday. I believe it is December 5th. I would love to go for the holidays, I have not been at that time of the year.

Again, only replied that I was actually also in the city limits, when it was said that only two replies were. This thread is great. Not surprised to hear about all the Chicagoans that frequent WDW.

I also lived on Roscoe avenue, when I was first married and used to leave the window open. We could hear the crowds at Wrigley, especially after a homerun was hit. Lived there in 68, when my son was a baby. IASW

Oh Boy!! You gotta ask CarolAnnC about her experiences with Rockford airport. :sad2: :earseek: :rotfl2:

Well it is a long tale of woe. My story of the Rockford Airport, that is, lol.

It was a stormy night over Chicago and my United Airlines flight was unable to land at O'Hare. They circled and circled. For hours and hours. We were destined for many places, as far away as Wichita Kansas, in order to safely land since we were running low on fuel. None of those came to pass since so many aircraft were being diverted.

So we were sent to the lovely Rockford Airport. Nothing against the airport itself, but it was closed down for the evening. Not to mention that United does not even have any employees, or a terminal there.

So we were taken one by one down the stairway on the runway, the one that had to be fixed, after the lone employee called in that night helped us disembark. People were stranded. No other flights anywhere since the airport was closed. Nothing.

But there was the amazing Crissup with his mighty Durango, picking me up and taking me back home. Sigh.....

Okay, we're not a world class airport. But for a scheduled flight to and from Orlando, for someone who lives in Rockford, the convenience is incredible. :goodvibes

LOL!! I was sitting in O'Hare waiting for a runway to open long enough to get the plane down when the pilot evidentally finally decided his fuel supply had gotten too low. On board, they had told Carol they were thinking about heading for Witchita, KS, since St.Louis had already filled to capacity with other O'Hare flights. Next thing I know, I get a phone call from Carol telling me the plane is sitting on the tarmac at Rockford, but they can't stay because of no United facilities. Supposedly, they were trying to find a fuel truck so they could get off the ground again. Finally, they exceed the flight crews maximum working hours and the plane had to legally call it quits for the night. So, as I'm trucking on down I-90 at a high rate of speed watching lightning taking down trees across the corn fields, the plane was trying to find someone with keys to the airport so they could get the passengers off the plane. At one point, I stopped for gas just east of rockford and asked where the airport was and the attendant said they couldn't figure out why they suddenly had a rash of cars in asking how to get to the airport. LOL!!

Then, the portable stairs that they drive up to the plane wouldn't start, so the guy had to get his truck out there to jump the battery to get the stairs started. LOL!!

Poor Carol!! We had to stay and wait for the bags because, since there were no United employees, the pilot warned the bags would just be left and there would be no one to lock them up or watch them. And, of course, there were no limos to be had that night at any reasonable rate.

Another story, good friend of mine lives in Dekalb. He and his family had considered taking some no name airline out of Rockford to Orlando one time. They ended up flying out of O'Hare instead. The plane was about to push back from the gate when it had to stop and wait. Evidentally, this no name airline's plane broke and had to land at O'Hare and they were now putting everyone on his flight to get them to Florida. LOL!! Fortunately, since he had actually ticketed the O'Hare flight, he had assigned seating and didn't have to cram family members wherever he could.

I figured they should rename Rockford airport "Green Acres Airport". LOL!!

Saying HI from Wheeling. Grew up in Chicago, lived their 27 years.

Does anyone find it strange how, you live in Chicago and work in the Suburbs? Or you live the Suburbs and work in Chicago? We need to move close to where we work. I finally got smart, live 6.4 miles from work in Glenview.
I think my Ticker is Wrong....

I grew up in Willow Springs (SW Side) and have lived in Woodridge (West Suburb) for the past 11 years.
Sometimes I see someone driving their van around here with a DISNY license plate. I always wondered if that person posted on the DIS boards but I don't see another person here from Woodridge.

YOU ARE RIGHT!!!!!!

It is so weird. I live in the city, (Lincoln Sq) and have always worked out in the burbs. Just this week I finally started a job downtown. I can now take the el to work.

But I have noticed that people in the city work in the burbs and people in the burbs work in the city.

Very cool on both accounts.

Everyone sing with me now: "It's a small world after all..."

I grew up in Bartlett, went to school in Elgin. After living around the country for about 15 years I finally moved back and now live in Darien. I love it here, close enough to the city. My requirements was to live not too far from the city but not too close either and to live on a train line and also easy to get to the airports. Also we live close to family. Some of my family moved an settled in the Western Suburbs. So that makes it nice.

West suburbs here! Grew up in Naperville, lived in Lombard and Aurora for stints, now settled in Montgomery.

I love the Chicago area! I could see us snowbirding, but I can't imagine ever leaving permanently!

DH and I were both born and raised on the south side of Chicago... moved around some after college and came back to the suburbs after we got married. We now live right between Oak Forest and Tinley park. Now that I realize there are so many dis'ers in the area I find myself wondering every time I see a Mickey topper "Is that a fellow diser?"

We're in Joliet. I've lived here forever but DH grew up in Mokena.
