20 something, still living at home and brides mom makes all the decisions? Sing it with me folks "Our D-I-V-O-R-C-E becomes final todaaaaay" Bride and groom both need to grow a pair of clackers if they plan to make this more than a starter marriage.

The ceremony & all the trappings are for the Bride & Groom, not parents.

She should wear the dress she wants, choose the band they want. If parents say "no money", then B & G should use more of their own or scale back the plans.

A smaller ceremony devoid of parental tyranny is preferable to being lead around like a pair of goats with rings in their noses.....

While I see big problems I also see paying for your child's wedding as a gift.

If I was the bride I'd wear the dress I choose, have the band that the groom choose and let my parents invite who ever they were willing to pay for as long as MY guest list didnt have to be scaled back to accomodate. If my parents did not agree I'd politely turn down their money and pay for my own wedding.

For me it doesn't matter who is paying for the wedding, the bride and groom should have final say, end of story.

It's stories like this that make me glad DH and I paid for our own wedding. Granted...it was small and not as fancy as some, but hey..we paid for it ourselves. We were college students without a lot of dough, but it was a nice wedding nonetheless.
