I'm assuming this was inspired by pharmlivin's recent thread about spouse reaction?

We definitely decided as a couple. Way too big of an investment for either of us to make without talking to the other....I mean, we probably have about $100 limit on unilateral purchasing decisions! ;)

Now, if you ask the question, "who's idea was it?", or "who pushed for it the most?", or "who did all the research?".....those are different questions altogether. Hint: It wasn't my DW.

I'll go ahead and answer Granny's questions! My dh and I both were interested the first time we heard of DVC (just out of college and expecting our first child...wasn't an option at the time!) and said "someday". When "someday" came, I was the one to do the research and convince him that the time was right! The final decision was made as a couple, as was the initial interest.

Our first trip home is in....67 days!

Thought it was a great family investment.:D

The couple for the initial purchase. I sort of surprised her with add-ons at OKW and HHI. Both well received. :) phew

If I pop another add-on on her I may get 2000 points in the dog house. ;)

Although my husband was involved in the process, most of the major decisions have been left up to me to make the final decision. My DH doesn't take care of any of our finances. He is also not the one who would ever plan any vacation so I do that also. He lives more spontaneously that I do and tends to roll with things more. I love to plan....In fact I'm planning the next 40 years out and enjoying every minute of it. We'll enjoy DVC together but I had to vote as the woman who made the decision.

well it will be the couple when we we do decide to buy in.

what about kids for those of the memebers who have them. did they have any input?

Mike

I had to vote for "couple" but I was definitely the instigator :D I'm the vacation planner; luckily DH is very agreeable and will go anywhere I want. I was surprised that he was so positive about BWV - I hardly had to do any convincing ;)

I'd like to see which person in a couple started the process and who drove the process to completion. Of all my "couple" friends, I only know of one where the guy is the vacation addict.

We don't have enough money for either of us to make a unilateral decision to spend thousands of dollars! However, that said, I was the one who pushed my DH into agreeing to buy into DVC. Now he's almost as big a Disney fan as I am, but initially he was humoring me. ;)

Couple for the decision, but woman planted the seed!

I (the woman) pushed for it, and I pay for it each month out of my own checking account. My DH is just not the Disney fanatic I am, but he tags along every now and then when we go to WDW. He did, however, put his name on the deed, and often teases me that I would never divorce him because I couldn't bear to part with my points(and he's right! ;)

if you are solo and are a man, you would respond the man. if you purchased alone and a woman, the respond woman. if you two people decided on the purchase then couple (whether married dating, partners, etc.)

In our case it wasn't so much who decided to buy, but was either of us going to try to talk the other one out of it. It wasn't so much as a joing decision as it was a joint "WOW".

(When we purchased in '93, we got the free park passes up to 1-1-2000., again "WOW".)

Sgtpet, I think having single persons respond as man or woman, depending on their gender, misleads the poll results it looks more like the man or the woman within a couple made the decision.

I don't know if you can change the poll or not. Moderators can edit polls. Maybe you could have Doc add another category for "Single Purchaser". Just MHO.

It was my idea but my DH was fine with it. As others have said he lets me do the vacation planning and if I said we could afford it then he was fine with it. I often get irritated with him for not helping with the planning process but he says I get so much enjoyment out of it he just lets me do it. Man I hate it when he is right!

Our 2 1/2 year old daughter, actually.

I did the research on it; and we decided to "test drive" by renting points and checking it out. As we boarded the plane to go home, her Dad asked her if and when she wanted to come back. She promptly stated "at 3:00 p.m." When we broke it to her that wasn't going to happen, it was those big brown eyes brimming with tears and that quivering bottom lip that pushed Dad over the edge. We purchased an OKW resale the following week.

She now refers to OKW as her "Disney home" (we have had the exact same room two trips in a row).
