I voted "DVC sales/marketing … Guide, Info booth, Video, Disney-website, Tour?"

It should be noted that nobody 'convinced me to buy'. It was just something my wife and I chose to do.

Originally took the tour at OKW back in 1991, at that time we always stayed at Polynesian why give up the monorail. We saw them building Wilderness Lodge and had to stay there at least once we loved the Lodge so we started stay there every trip. A friend from work took a trip and stayed at The BoardWalk Inn...so I also wanted to try there. I got ressie's for 2br villa and a studio (took many of my family members with me) until then I didn't know DVC had opened a second vacation resort. Then the next trip back to my love WL I see them building next door.....that was it had to buy in to DVC. pirate:

My wife, son, and myself went to WDW at the start of September and decided to stop by the DVC stand at DTD to see the what they had to say in the brochure about HHI as that is where we live.

Anyway while we were there we started talking to the guy who talked us into seeing a guide the following day.
We decided to buy into SSR..
Came home, thought about it, talked to a few people and decided to cancel.
A few days ago I found these boards while researching the subject and saw what everyone had to say about it so we called back and luckely our cancelation had not gone through yet. ;) So all is well.

Anyway I suppose you could say it was the guide who talked us into it and you guys convinced us it was wise to stay with it.

We have already planned our first vacation and are desperately waiting for Dec. 1 so we can get it put on the books. ;)

We visited WDW while staying at BIL/SIL's Marriott timesshare. Stopped at a DVC kiosk, made an appointment, and toured the model. Didn't commit yet at that time. DH and I thought we might want to talk to someone who was a member to get their viewpoint. As luck would have it, we went to MK that evening for fireworks and sat next to a lady who was a member. Couldn't believe our luck!!! We thought about it a couple of weeks while we crunched the numbers, but ultimately made the decision to purchase.

Didn't know about the DISboard until later. Probably would have purchased at a different resort due to your collective motto of "Buy where you want to stay", but so far it has worked out okay at the 7-month window and waitlisting. However, we did purchase additional points twice and at two different on-site resorts.

Actually, I had seen things in magazines, the kiosks and never thought about it. I was like, "Can never afford that."

Then my dad called me, the Disney guru in the family, and asked me, "What's this Disney Vacation Club? My boss is leaving for something called OKW and he says he can stay in a villa with a kitchen and it doesn't cost him anything."

I said I think it's Disney's version of a timeshare and that I'd get some info for him. So I found the DVC website, started reading this forum, and found out I was crazy not to do this myself!

My DH is a Disney lover since our first trip and he was all for it when I broke down the costs for him.

So I will vote other, because it was a lot of things all coming together that got me going on the purchase at BCV. All I can say is I wish I thought about it sooner!

I selected the first option...DVC Marketing.

Truly it was a couple of stays at OKW on rented points that did the trick. Our guide has been great, but even the worst guide in the world probably wouldn't have discouraged us at that point.

Although they didn't convince me to buy, the gang at the old Disney Fans BB on Prodigy back in '93-'94 helped me to decide that DVC was a good thing. It took me more than a year after I heard about it from them to decide, but I have never regretted it since we joined in 1995. :teeth:

I was already hoping that DH would want to buy but here is the final straw.
We rented points and stayed at OKW to just feel the DVC experience. DH wasn't convinced. We happened to be in Epcot outside of Rose and Crown, sitting on a bench, just talking about going back to the DVC office to keep our appointment and see the units. Another couple were sharing the bench. We were just talking about DVC betiween DH and myself, trying to decide if we should keep the appointment. This couple sittiing on the same bench said "Oh yes you do!!" They kept talking to DH about the merits of DVC. I didn't have to d ANY convincing, they took care of it for me!!! I wish I knew who that couple was so I could thank them. I am the WDW addict, but DH bought me points for our 25th anniversary. Anyway, they helped convince DH to purchase.

We have family who owns at BCV, they love it! So, of course, as often as we go, they kept telling us we were crazy we hadn't bought. After a year of listening to that, we became BWV members! ;)

Took tour in 1992, but could not afford to do it (or more likely did not want to work to afford it). Thought about it on and off again (generally everytime we would pass a DVC booth at WDW).

In late Spring 2002 (ten years after our first tour) we got an offer from DVC to get a 4 night resort stay at AKL for an unbelievable price and thought why not reconsider this. AKL was a resort we were itching to stay at so it was the perfect inducement for us. We booked it for the fall of 02.

During the summer we started looking around for information from non-Disney sources and found this site among others. Called to get more Disney information and got assigned our guide. After much research, talking with our guide, talking with Timeshare Store and discussion on our part, we decided to buy BCV direct from Disney and OKW resale using Timeshare Store. Did both over the summer of 02.

We kept the trip for the fall and added an OKW stay as well using some of our new BCV points. Then when we met our guide on that trip we did an add-on (which required us to take another trip two months later to use the points (and we got our second AKL stay). Thank goodness for APs!

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories about who or how you hooked up with DVC.

Keep then coming!

Our SIL owned prior to us purchasing....we did the numbers and decided it wasn't for us....we took a trip to Disney and ended up staying at the BWV because we didn't like our original room....after staying in a DVC property we decided it was definatley worth the investment...we purchased during that trip...

We convince ourselves. We had looked into this years ago and like so many others we didn't purchase right away but rather waited until last year. Actually, we loved staying at BC/YC and had told our guide years ago if they ever opened a DVC at this location we would definitely purchase. Annmarie

DW and I needed no convincing. We first took the tour at VB many moons ago. We lived up the road in Melbourne at the time. The only thing that stopped us then was budget.

Flash forward to 2000. We were getting ready to check out of POFQ. I went to the front desk to get some Mickey laundry bags - kind of an all purpose organizer for our family. I saw the DVC and on impulse asked to take the tour. At the time, VWL was the current model. After much hesitation on my part, DW convinced me we had the budget for it. In retrospect, we could have bought more points. It's worth mentioning that our guide, Mary Mannix, asked us several times if we wre sure we wanted to do it. She was very concerned that we felt we were making a good decision.

One credit approval later, and we were proud owners of 250 little pieces of the magic. Nobody had to convince us. We had dreamed of doing it for a long time.

DW did it here.
She wanted to buy in a couple of year's ago, but, my "superior" intellect and "incredible" reasoning told her "NO". It surely is only a way for Disney to make money.
Then she subtly signed us up for a tour on one of our stays at the All-Stars (which we do like staying at, by the way).
Hassan was great. No Pressure. We left without buying.
The next day, we bought.
This year we added on (MY Idea-see I do have a "superior intellect" LOL).
This year we added a new family member, too.
Next year--more points.

My wife and I decided on the last day of a 5 night stay at the All Star Movies with 2 kids. After those 5 nights, the room that DVC offered was a no brainer.

Who convinced you to buy DVC?
The voices inside our heads !:teeth:
We were vacationing at Vero Beach on a special discount rate that depended on us attending a sales presentation in 2000. Dh and I swore up and down that we would attend but not buy because we already had a timeshare. We walked into that presentation standing firm together........24 hours later we were signing on the dotted line ! We went back to our room and made a "pro" and "con" list and literally tried to talk ourselves out of it. But, like I said, the "voices" inside our heads convinced us ;)
We haven't regretted a thing !

It was really alot of reasons. Although, I voted for the first one because we had talked to them so many times. The last conversation we had put the icing on the cake, along with all the reading we did on the boards. We don't know what took us so long to decide, but we did, and we are so happy about it.:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I had always seen those DVC booths set up at the parks::MickeyMo , glanced over at them as we passed and saw a discussion between a family and the DVC Rep, but never stopped.

For some reason, on our latest trip in January '03, I glanced again, but this time I actually stopped and looked at some pictures and grabbed a brochure or some sort of literature there. Never did I speak to a DVC Rep.

So, I went ahead and ordered the video online and started to do my own research via a few different websites. :teacher: I finally stumbled onto the DISboards towards the end of March '03 and found all of the answers that I needed.:teeth:

Now, the next project was to show my 'magically-impaired' wife how great of a deal it was to buy into DVC. I had to tread these waters very carefully and plan out my own 'sales pitch' because any wrong step could mean no DVC for me! So, we sat down and spoke about it. I gave her the facts and all the information that I had learned. She agreed that it was a good deal and that she would 'think about it'. ::yes::

Lo and behold....although a bit earlier than expected...we are DVC Members! And, our first trip 'home' is in less than 10 days! :hyper:
