Who at resorts can help with transportation?

Transportation between here and there at WDW is one of the more confusing things for me. I know I will not be able to keep it all straight. Who can we ask at the parks or resorts about how to get places? Is this something any random CM will know or should we seek out certain people?

Unfortunately, resort cast are generally not well-informed about Disney transportation. Your best bet might be the concierge/Guest Services desk; they are at least supposed to know about things like that, and can look things up on their computer.

But really, you should ask a bus driver or transportation greeter (the college kids at the bus stops in the a.m.) for the most reliable info. And confirm anything a concierge tells you with a bus driver or greeter before relying on it.

Its actually pretty simple to get from one place to the other at WDW, with lots to signs to help you.

Bus: Just go to the resort bus stop and wait for the bus going to your park of the day. At the end of the day, go to the park's bus stop and look for the big signboard that tells you what bus stop number to go to for a bus back to your resort.

Boat: If your resort has boat transportation to a park (i.e., WL to the MK) just go down to the boat dock and wait for the boat. When you leave the park, look for the sign for boat transportation, which will most likely be at the same dock you arrived at.

Monorail: Just go to the monorail station at your resort to get to the MK (stops are announced, just listen). If going to Epcot, you'll need to take the monorail to the TTC and change there for Epcot. Again, there are signs and you can simply ask one of the CM's for clarification if need be.

I agree with what has been posted. transportation in and around the WDW complex is pretty straight forward.

If you are driving, the routes are very well marked with large street signs. If you are unsure, just keep driving until you hit a park gate, then simply ask.

If using the WDW transportation, simply look around your resort to see what options are visible. Buses are the most prevalent, and take you from resort to park/DTD. Once you know this, you can noodle through any specifics. For instance if you have breakfast reservations at Chef Mickeys in the Contemporary resort, you can take a bus to the Magic Kingdom (resort to park), then walk or monorail to the Contemporary from MK (park to resort).

As mentioned for a route you are not sure about, just ask the concierge desk. Although if you have time, sometimes just hopping on the bus and discovering where it goes is pretty fun, too.

Good luck!

We are staying at POFQ. I know I can take buses to parks and a boat to DTD. But we might want to play miniature golf. Not sure how to get there. We might want to look at some other resorts and we have meals at two of them. I wouldn't know if a boat option is available somewhere or if it is better to take a monorail or bus somewhere. I don't know what resorts are near which parks. I just thought it would be helpful to know who I could ask if we found ourselves needing help. I had a feeling that some CMs might not have the best answer. If I have time, I'll just ask here. :)

The bell staff is pretty good. You could take a cab to golf. Or you could take bus to boardwalk via downtown Disney and just walk from there. It is only a block or do away. Personally I would opt for taxi there and then maybe get bus from boardwalk.

As a general rule, to get to another resort, take the bus to the open theme park nearest your destination; just ask the bus driver how to get from the park to your destination resort. The only other rule you have to remember is: Don't take the bus to Epcot to get to an Epcot resort; take the bus to DHS instead.

If all the parks have closed, you can transfer at DTD. But it's best to stay away from DTD transfers as much as possible, especially with the current construction.

There are 2 mini-golf courses. Winter-Summerland is co-located with BB, so during the day, just take the BB bus from any resort. Tell the driver where you are going, or he may skip BB. Getting there at night is more complicated: you need to get to CSR where there is a shuttle bus -- or just take a cab.

Fantasia Gardens is across the street from the Swan, so from a resort, you would take the bus to DHS (when open), and then the boat to the Swan.

Part of the problem is I don't know which park is near my destination. I look at maps but I don't really know how close things are.
I will try to remember that about Epcot.
Thanks for the info about golf. I was thinking we would want to try Winter/Summer land.

Google maps can give you an idea of distance. Generally if you type in the place you want to find in the search box, it will show you on the map. For instance, disney world miniature golf yields Fantasia Gardens. You can see on the map how close it is to the Swan (closer than the tennis courts), you'd just need to know how to get to the Swan and Dolphin hotel.

Plus, I would stay within knowledge centers when asking questions at WDW. A bus driver or the concierge desk should know (or be able to find out) the answer to where something is and how to get there. I wouldn't ask someone in the Magic Kingdom, though.

Sorry -- I tend to take it for granted, and forget it's not so obvious for everyone else.

Here's a partial list of the hubs and some conveniently nearby resorts:

  • MK (via monorail)
    • CR
    • Poly
    • GF
  • MK (via boat)
    • Ft. Wilderness
  • MK (via boat or bus)
    • WL
  • DHS (via boat or walking)
    • Swan
    • Dolphin
    • Yacht Club
    • Beach Club
    • BW
  • Epcot (via bus)
    • Port Orleans
    • OKW
    • SSR
    • Coronado Springs (also near DHS)
  • AK (via bus)
    • AKL
Remember that the park must be open for you to transfer there. If the most convenient park is closed, or you're unsure for any reason, just ask the driver of the first bus to come along. And any open park will do; it just may take 10-20 minutes longer.

That is a very helpful list! Organized in a way that makes sense to me. I'm going to save that. Thanks!

if going to FW for any reason the boat from MK is the way to go. HDDR or Trails End are near to boat ramp. we never done campfire but I assume you can get there also. we have also never done Backyard BBQ but if I remember correctly it is also near boat. if you would bus from another park you would have to take an internal bus to other end of campground

I was going to make ADRs for HDDR but then DH says "Do we really have to?" So, the upshot is- we don't need to "worry" about getting to FW! :rotfl:

Your hotel concierge desk (where all the park maps are), have small, foldup transportation guides- it's a nice chart which tells you your options from wherever you are. This way you don't have to print out and bring something with you.

When you get closer to your trip, and you have your plans more in place, come back here and ask how to get from point A to point B! We're more than happy to help out. And we usually have much better info than a lot of CMs.
You want to play mini-golf? For Fantasia Gardens you would take the bus to DHS from your resort (if at a park, take the bus to the S/D). Walk to the S/D, and follow the signage to Fantasia Gardens. Or you can take the boat from DHS. Winter-SummerLand? Bus to BB, then walk over to the course.
Let us know where you want to get to, and from where, and you'll get more than enough info...we sometimes don't know when to shut up!!!
