Who are these kids?

Every now and then on my drive home, there are these kids (high school age perhaps) standing on the street corners wearing white t-shirts with big pictures of Jesus on them. When traffic is stopped, they come out asking for donations.

Who are these kids and what are they collecting for?

I'm wondering if they are really collecting for a cause or if they are begging for beer money under the guise of a charity.

no idea, but that is pretty much how I feel about ANYBODY standing out in the middle of traffic with a bucket.

I've never heard of most of those charities and I really don't like strange men tapping on my car windows panhandling for change.
