Ok for htose who don't exercise regularly, who actually starts a program months or weeks before they arrive so they don't fall over and pass out. One can walk alot of miles with WDW.

Ken

In the past I have always started walking 3 to 4 months before my trip. I start by walking 15 minutes, then increase to 1/2 hour and then 45 minutes to an hour each day if possible. By the time I go I am up to the task of touring WDW.
This year I have been walking and exercising for a healthier life style, so by my trip in June I will be more than ready.

also another thing..with all the walking...is it even possible to gain weight during the stay espcially if I pigged out?

Oh yes- it is possible to gain!! LOL!! I walk 45 minutes a day (3 miles) and keep my weight the same all year. I think I walk double that in a day at WDW, and I still came home 6 pounds heavier after my last trip- DARN THOSE BEAVERTAILS AND THAT BEACHES AND CREME!! IT'S ALL THEIR FAULT! Okay, okay, I'm the one that wanted to stay at BC with their easy access to food in the World Showcase *think lots of Fish and Chips and funnel cake mmmm*, and I will admit I have a small addiction to food, espescially sweets, fried food and pretty much anything high carb! But come on! 6 pounds in 6 days!!! YIKES! The really scary thing is it took me about 4 weeks to get it off!!

Carrie--it's the same for me. I think it's maybe because we do walk a lot on average during non-WDW days ... I can avoid Beaches and Cream, but I'm a sucker for a froo-froo drink. I only have 1 drink a week at home, but WDW means usually 1-2 drinks a day ..... And, you're right -- it usually takes about a month to lose what I've gained! But, it's worth it ....:earsgirl:

I do! I start 2 months out walking about 2 1/5 miles. Especially when it's warm out. I also try to down alot of water.

It does help because I know I can outlast my DH through a day at the parks!

....and whatever you do, do NOT try out a new pair of shoes while at WDW. Nor go with flip-flops or sandals that are comfie for a couple hours normally at home. These types are MURDER on about the 5th hour of the day when you've got 5 more to go. Believe me, I've learned the hard way!!
WDW IN JUNE :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

Somehow I managed to lose weight on my last trip, despite a Thanksgiving dinner and many a snack in the parks. Once the weather gets nice, I do practically every single money-raising walk that I can. I do the 10 mile MS walk, the 3 mile NCCJ walk, the Corporate Challenge (I even run a little of this). I would say that someone has to walk before they go on vacation, at least to form some callouses and know exactly what shoes do not cause blisters. That little bit of training can save a lot of hassle in the parks. Plus, it will help with that nightly sprint that you will want to take if you really want to get out the parks quickly!

As a rule, I walk two miles at least 4 times a week and do aerobic classes also. However, I did learn this the hard way. Walking does not work your calve muscles enough. We went one year and had a condo with an upstairs at OKW. By the third day of walking DOWN those stairs, my calve muscles were so sore I could hardly walk. So now, about 2 months before a trip, I walk down the 10 flights of stairs at my office building everyday to prepare.

I have to admit that some how each year I manage to gain 10 pound between each trip. I always start about three months before the trip.
I started four weeks ago for our March trips and I have lost 15 pounds and I am up to walking four miles a day in a hour. You can say I am walking kinda fast.
I just cannot stand the way I look so I know what others must think. I just can't put a bathing suit on and feel good.

I do not seem to gain while I am on the trip. I just gain here at home and work eating everything in sight.

I am very proud of myself. I am almost back to my weight when I got married. (145) I only have 10 more pounds to go. I can do it.

Wish me luck!!!!!

I am so glad to know I am not the only one who trains for Disney. I have been a dedicated mall walker since the Fall 99' but about 2 months before each Disney trip I pick up the pace and add extra days, my current goal is to walk 150 miles before my March trip. I hit the halfway point today!

I make my 7 and 5 year old DD's walk to build thier stamina since we only like to push one stroller. My one year old gets the stroller most of the day.

We never do and seem to do just fine. Maybe when we get older it wil be harder.

I speedwalk EVERYWHERE! So I know I won't have a problem. My sister is exactly the same but my friend on the other hand is always left in the dust. So, I guess we'll have to check behind us every so often to make sure we haven't left her in the dust, ahaha

We are going to WDW 4/24 - 5/2...about 3 weeks ago I started walking on the treadmill for a 1/2 hr in the morning and a 1/2 hr in the late afternoon, so I am up to 4 miles/day. I don't exercise on a regular basis, but I wanted to be prepared for all the walking we will do. My husband also gets on the treadmill for about 45 min/day. I am amazed at the extra energy I have!! Now all we have to do is get the kids to jump on!!;) :hyper: :teeth:

I am retired and I always loved walking. I go to the gym 2-3 times a week all year and do moderate aerobics plus threadmill so I do not do anything special before going to WDW. I do watch what I eat because we spend 10 or more days there and restaurant food is richer that the one you cook at home and portions are larger. WDW restaurants do not mind if you share an entree and that is what my husband and I do, then we have an appetizer and individual salads, sometimes there is no room left for dessert, if there is I have mine and he has a no sugar one.
We never gain additional weigh. :chat:

however, I do step it up about a month before going. And, I want to look good in my shorts.

2 days and counting!

I go enough so that my prior visit is training for the next :p

Seriously, we do some prep walking ahead of time and get up to a good 45 minutes at a time clip before our trips - DS#1 loves walking and then he gets shoulder rides from me when he is too tired

thanks
jaysue

I try to at least prep a little by stretching and eating really well the week before i go. I also had a doctor appointment (I have some medical conditions) two days ago ( I leave in 2 weeks) just to make sure i had enough of my medication and that everything was in good shape. :)
