White spots on black fabric

I bought a black comforter for my son. Today I washed it to get the new smell out and it has white marks on it. I thought it was lint that sort of got washed/dried on, so I've been scrubbing at it with a wet rag post washing.

Some of the spots are better, others are stubborn. It reminds me of the deoderant marks that get on clothes.

Any ideas of how to get rid of this?

Did you use powder laundry detergent to wash it? If so, maybe it didn't dissolve completely.

That would have been my first thought also. I should have mentioned, we have allergies so I always use liquid and put it in with water to thoroughly disolve before adding the laundry. Thanks for the thought.

This has happened to me twice in the last two weeks, and only on my black sweatpants. No other colors had these white smudges. I use liquid laundry detergent for HE machine. What type of detergent and machine do you have? Just wondering if there is any similarities, because it's only on my black fabrics that this is happening.

I have a regular top loading machine. The load was really full though since it was a comforter. I use All free and clear.

Maybe it's dust/lint from the batting that was used to make the comforter. Just wash it again in the short cycle and see if that removes the stains.
