Same here. I was very impressed. He seems very humble, and very 'different' than Pope's in the past that I have heard speak. I somehow get the sense that he's going to be a "People's Pope". I wish him well. That's one tough job he just accepted!

Definitely, with the name Francis - the most humble saint in the Catholic church. And as a priest and Cardinal, Pope Francis often spoke about poverty and human rights. This is a very encouraging choice!
Some people just have to stir the pot and try to find controversy in every little thing - especially something that people hold so dear to their hearts. My advice is to give that comment the validation it deserves by moving on and not responding (and yes, I get the irony in my posting this).
I'm encouraged by his reputation as a reformer and as a man of the people. He refused to live in the Cardinal's Palace and he took the bus to work every morning in Buenos Aires. He chose to include the 3 prayers that every Catholic child learns first, as he lead the crowd in St. Peter's Square. No matter what language they spoke, every Catholic could join together to pray for our new leader.

Excited about this choice for Pope. Love that his given name is Joseph and Pope name is Francis. Two humble examples of faith. Latin American helps too considering the huge number if Hispanic Catholics
