White house state dinner gate crashers

Who else thinks this is a publicity stunt?

What would this be a publicitly stunt for? How woefully inept the Secret Service is? Making your staff look incompetent is not good publicity. The White House, like any organization, wants the public to perceive them as effective and competent and would seek out publicitly that matches that image. This does not.

I don't think it's one bit funny. How easily could someone with malicious intent have gotten in and harmed the president? Pretty easily, I guess. We're supposed to trust these people with the security of our country and they can't even properly control security at a party? I find it horrifying.

they still went through the security check, metal detectors etc.... So, security wasn't an issue.
Like I said, I'm sure this isn't the first time someone has crashed a white house party

If they had guns, bombs, etc they probably would have set off the metal detectors--just a hunch.

I know I'm in the minority, but I thought it was funny. I'm sure it's not the first time it's happened, and probably won't be the last.

I thought it was Hilarious!:lmao: Now they are talking about people being fired over this....well...DUH!

any other place, I'd think of it as a publicity stunt - but I can't see the white house going along with looking like idiots to promote a reality show - I could be wrong though.

They are in major financial trouble--I bet they are trying to get some kind of financial deal out of it through a tv show, book or whatever. I don't think the White House is in on the deal just that THEY are pulling some kind of a stunt, most likely to get money--kind of like the Balloon Boy deal.

But I bet there were knives on the tables of that state dinner.

It's horrifying that these people got so far. And they belong in jail.

No doubt about it - but if someone is willing to give them money for this, then more power to them - a fool and his money.....

And for the record, I also think it's funny when the Howard Stern fans get through to a major network to proclaim their love for Howard Stern :)

Well, yeah, if they had used the butter knives to try and take out Obama, they'd belong in jail. For just showing up at the party and getting beyond security??? Not so much, I'd rather save that jail spot for an actual criminal.

I'm wondering what they could be charged with. They didn't really trespass since they walked though security. Did they impersonate someone maybe?

I wonder if President Obama and Michelle thought it was funny? Its :eek:if you ask me. How does this happen and how many terriorists just got a new idea? Unbelievable breech of security. Don't you have to be on some kind of guest list and prove who you are or show your invite to get in?:confused3

I'm just tired of people being famous for being famous.I read or heard somewhere that kids think the 'American Dream' refers to being famous.Their 'publicist' says they will be having junkets next week. It's sick.

A couple weeks ago there was a show on- I think it was called the Arete Honors for Courage in Sports or something like that. It had a girl who had survived a murder attempt and is now a para-athelete and a firefighter who had been hit by a bus, not expected to live and now does Ironman triathlons. Let's have more celebrities like that and less people who's chief ability is handing over their Black Amex.

Walking through security does not negate the trespassing.

Maybe not, but it's not as if they broke in. I find it all scary and humorous at the same time. Or maybe ironic is a better word than humorous. Happily, no one was in jeopardy or was harmed (except maybe career wise for the secret service in charge of the whole thing.)

Yeah, I just meant, I believe they can still be charged with trespassing. I just wonder what they would have done if they HAD been turned away at the gate. They were being followed by TV cameras~ wonder if they would have left quietly or pitched a 'Don't you know who I AM??!??!? fit.'

The issue will likely be that the mispresented themselves. They WERE turned away at the gate, and they persisted, knowing they were not supposed to be there, that it was an invited, exclusive event with tight security (although not tight enough) they were not supposed to be at.

Want to speculate how much money this is costing now to revamp security procedures? Maybe we should present them with a nice, fat bill.

Bet there was also glassware at the state dinner that would nice weapon once broken, if a trained assassin had a mind to. He/she would probably even find the butter knife satisfactory.

The security expert in an article I read said that a real concern was also biological weapons such as anthrax...the security screenings apparently don't pick those up.
