Whistle While We Work: January 2016 Bounceback! page 12 10/15

Happy Belated Anniversary! Such cute pictures! Oh those '80's styles! We married fairly young also. 36 years for us.

That list was sweet. It's funny that you mention your cats eating flowers. Our flower eating cat had to be put to sleep this past May and I was able to receive flowers for my birthday for the first time in fourteen years. It's strange that other cats we've had have never bothered with flowers.

That's great you were finally able to meet Mike! Looking forward to reading more about your day.

What a wonderful list!

I'm happy to see that he likes your love of Disney and thinks you have wonderful friends. That makes it so much easier to crash your anniversary trip!

I know you have more Disney friends than there are stars in the sky, but I'm still impressed with how many you have managed to meet during your trips, over the years. :)

What a sweet list! Thank you for sharing!

It sounds like you had a nice morning at the Beach Club- and fun that you fit in a Dis meet!

I love Mark's anniversary email, so sweet!!

And I love that you got to meet Mike, that's so amazing! It's always nice to get a chance to meet someone who has become a good friend through the DIS.

Brilliant update. Mark is obviously a wise man and a romantic soul to have chosen you as his wife :). I think his email is the perfect anniversary gift :)
Looks like you and MickeyT had a great time meeting up :thumbsup2

Mark made a very nice list. :lovestruc That was really sweet of him to do that. ::yes:: I like how he added Disney to the list. I guess that means he doesn't mind you spending so much time doing Disney stuff. ;)

Thanks! He is not normally very romantic so that made it all the more special. And he is honest as well. He told me it was hard to come up with 30 things!

:lmao:

Mark is a genuine Disney guy. He visited WDW before I did, my first trip to the World was with him, on our high school class trip.

::MickeyMo

I love DISmeet pics. It is so cool to put the face to the screen name. I've been blessed to "meet" the most wonderful peeps on the DIS (yourself included  ) and it is awesome to finally get a real life hug and meet in person!!

My "imaginary" friends are such an important part of my life. It is truly a bonus when I get to meet someone in the flesh! Someday, our time will come, my friend!

:grouphug:

Thank you! Hard to believe so much time has passed, so much has changed, yet so much has stayed the same!

I think this is the first time I have had cats who ate bouquets. It is both of them. A friend told me that baby's breath is botanically related to cat nip, but they eat all kinds of flowers. Nate got a red rose at graduation and I had to keep that out of reach... I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your longtime pet.

That's right! I will tell him I am just being efficient and combining two of the things he loves about me!

I have loved meeting so many people who are a special part of my life. And it is great that I have met a few more than once!

:cool1:

I was so delighted with my list! Thanks for letting me share it.

It was a great start to a pretty fantastic day.

::yes::

FINALLY got to meet Dee. And yes folks. She really is that short! In my mind she is 10ft tall.

(Great things come in small packages :) )

AWWWWW!!!!

It was wicked awesome spending time with you and your family that day!!! I know you were looking forward to hearing my accent. Were you able to understand everything I said?

:rotfl2:

Mark's email definitely put a smile on my face!

Loved meeting Mike! I end up seeing a few other friends I have met before later that day, but I was hoping to serendipitously run into some other friends I knew were hanging around that world that weekend.

;)

I kind of view our partnership as an exercise in efficiency. Mark once said "I didn't waste my time dating someone I wouldn't consider marrying"

It was great to see Mike "face to face" even though I needed a stool to do so! We were family before we ever met.

:thumbsup2

Thanks! Yes, it was very out of character for Mark to send me something like that, which made it even more special.

I totally understand you not wanting to interrupt while I was with others and I think you were coming back from the pool. Must have been cold in that lobby!

Hopefully there will be another chance sometime down the road.

:goodvibes

Breakfast- Oo La La!

Security So Nice, I Did it Twice!

A little after 9, Mike and I parted ways, but we would be meeting up again for dinner with his family, Teena and another friend of ours.

Because the marathon was going on and running right past the Beach Club back entrance, there was just a narrow roped off walkway for guests headed to EPCOT. I was directed along the path that runs under the bridge, which I have never used before.

I got to the International Gateway and found that even though it was January 10, there was still Christmas in the air!

DSCF9846.jpg

The voucher Teena gave me for entrance was a piece of paper and when I read it, it said to bring it to the turnstiles for entry to the park. In addition to the normal bag check, there was a metal detector to go through, so I emptied out my pockets and sent my bag through the scanner. The groups in front of me were a little cranky about this, but I had a big smile on my face. When the woman at the security area apologized for the inconvenience, I said “No problem! I know you are just trying to keep everyone safe.“ She really seemed to appreciate my attitude. I suspect it was going to be a very long day for her.

When I reached the tapstiles and put the code up to the Mickey head, nothing happened.

The woman there said I had to go and redeem my voucher for a ticket.

I said “No, it says right here to bring this paper to the entrance turnstiles. See…” When I looked again, I saw that was the procedure for DisneyLAND!

So back to the Guest Services booth where they quickly gave me a ticket to use.

Back through bag check.

When I arrived at the metal detector I said “Security is so nice, I’m doing it twice!”

The woman working there smiled.

This time I successfully turned Mickey green at the tapstile.

I’m in!

Instead of heading left towards Future World, I headed right to get some breakfast in France.

I haven’t paid much attention to the Disney races in the past, so I didn’t know that there were characters out to meet the runners as they go by. More about that in a couple of chapters.

So many options!

However, I chose poorly… I don’t know why I didn’t get a traditional éclair. This one was not chocolately enough!

I made my way back through the marathon course through France, the UK and Canada .

Sorry that your ticket was a bit confusing! Good to know that there is a guest services building at IG!

Love that there are characters meeting the runners! I met a couple girls last year at our getaway, and they shared their pictures- I was amazed!

That must have been fun to watch the runners go past. We were at AK during the marathon in 2005 when the runners were running through that park and I enjoyed cheering them on. :)

Awwww, your hubby's email is the sweetest thing ever! I saw the pics on FB too and they are wonderful. Happy anniversary!
How nice you got to meet MikeyT! It's always nice to have DISMeets on a trip! (Hint hint...I hope we have a DISmeet one day!)

Yum, those pastries at Les Halles...although yours wasnt' chocolate it does look good. What flavor was it?
ooh! Run Disney! I better study your pictures so I will ready my lame behind to get in shape for the 5k!
Can't wait to see what you did in your Behind the Seeds Tour!

Lol on the mix up with the voucher. At least security was nice.

Great photos all around. World showcase makes for some great photo opportunities.

One of the big selling points to Disney races is meeting characters during the race. A lot of times the characters are rarer yes too so I love meeting characters when I am doing the races.

Really nice pictures in France! It's such a pretty area. I dislike being rushed through the countries in WS and love taking my time to fully appreciate the beauty of each one.

My daughter, who is a hardcore marathon runner, did that race five years ago. While she had fun, she was shocked that people actually stopped to visit with the characters. We're always telling her that not everyone takes running so seriously.

What was that pastry that you bought? The germophobe in me is freaking out a little at how dangerously close that was to touching the stone ledge. I don't know why, but the older I get, the weirder I get about that kind of thing.

Looking forward to reading about the Behind the Seeds Tour.

I love breakfast in France
I enjoy so many of their pastries ( too many perhaps:rolleyes1). In our last trip I also discovered the framboise :worship:. At that point my husband commented that is given up all pretense of eating anything remotely healthy (do those 3 raspberries on the top not count as a portion of fruit?) :rotfl2:

I always think it would be really cool to run a Disney race but then I remember I can't run for the life of me lol. Looks like it would be awesome though doesn't it :)

Excited to read about your tour :)

Oh and well done Dee in being so nice and kind to security ( not that I'd expect anything less from you) :)
We witnessed some less than stellar attitudes and behavior towards security on our last trip. Even my youngest commented that "people were being cross and they were only keeping us all safe". Made me wonder why it was so hard for the adults to get it when a 9year old understands:confused3:headache:

I like your attitude towards the metal detectors. So many people are grumbling about them, but I feel the same way - if it keeps us safe, it's a good thing, so I'm happy to go through it if asked.

The characters are actually one of the reasons I got so into runDisney. I had heard about the races and was doing some research, and I saw some reports that there are sometimes rare characters out on the course, and once I saw that, I was sold!

You got some great pictures - World Showcase is so beautiful in the morning when it's (relatively) quiet and peaceful!

I hate when I am totally convinced I am correct. But I'm not!

I'm glad there was nobody else at Guest Services. It is good that there is one there, but I have heard horror stories of how long it sometimes takes there, even if there is just a single person in line in front you.

It is a great opportunity for the runners to get some great photo ops with characters, designed to be quickly taken.

I didn't realize that they were exclusively there for the runners. Until later that day.

::yes::

I loved seeing the runners going by, especially the ones who were costumed. The supporters were fun to watch, too. I'll have a few pictures later in my time in EPCOT.

I found a few photos of the runners going by the back of the Beach Club so I added those to my post above.

:cheer2:

Mark's email was a very unexpected treat. We don't normally exchange cards or gifts, so that made it more special. Even though he admitted it was hard coming up with 30 things!

Mike is just the sweetest guy and we have been framily for around 6 years.

Well, it sure wasn't hazelnut!!! I think it was just a vanilla frosting. I like pastry cream, not the frosting type cream and I don't think I saw chocolate eclairs with pastry cream so I got this one.

A bunch of my DIS friends do the Disney races, so I may find myself going at that time of year to meet up. Would love to meet you, too!

I don't even think I have looked at my Behind the Seeds pictures since the trip, and I fear I have forgotten a lot about the tour. May have to cheat and copy your update!

:rotfl:

It was just after 9 and I could tell security was already frustrated because everyone was giving them a hard time. Sheesh!

Thanks! World Showcase is my favorite place to take pictures.

Disney really makes the races attractive! What great experiences.

:thumbsup2

Thank you. France was almost empty when I was there. At first I was annoyed at the two guys on the bench in my picture, but it kind of sets an atmosphere. I think there was one other group who came into the bakery after me.

A lot of the runners have a different mindset during the Disney races. But I have heard that serious runners find it difficult to understand people stopping for character photos.

LOL about the pastry almost touching the ledge where I put it down. I didn't notice that. I understand when people have concerns about germs- I am not generally concerned . But then again, I spend my work day hand feeding food scraps to pigs and having goats lick grain out of my hand.

It was like an éclair with vanilla rather than chocolate frosting. I can tell you I now understand why the chocolate ones are classic. This was unremarkable.

Hope I don't disappoint with the Behind the Seeds review. I suspect it will be lots of pictures and not so much substance.

:faint:

3 raspberries totally make it a fruit. Just like Pop*Tarts are fruit. NOT!

Safety first!

I could see this was a great opportunity for character greets. A great way to make for a fun run.

Thanks! Except for the running course, the areas I went to in EPCOT were empty.

Hey everyone!

So very sorry for my disappearing act. Hard to believe we are at the end of summer.

The two big life events for my family-

First- Nate got his driver's license.

This would seem to be a minor thing, but it was literally a long, winding, rocky road, 2 years in the making. Our summer project.

It started with Nate's declaration after his first day in driver's ed: "I'm never driving one of those death machines. Or crossing the street!"

3 driving schools. The first one closed due to retirement of the owners, the second one was run by a jerk who hung up on me on the phone and the third was the instructor from the first school that closed down.

Having to get in 6 hours of driving and 2 hours of observation in a month, before his learner's permit expired (which was after college dropoff).

Then trying to schedule a road test- no openings so we had to check 4-5 times a day to see if there was a cancellation. Scored a road test, but Nate did not pass (he froze up parallel parking in Mark's car. He was used to the instructor's smaller car). Back to looking for another cancelled appointment. Found one a week ago. His driving instructor took him in the school car.

Mission accomplished!

Koalafied to Drive.jpg

On Friday, we brought Nate to UNH. Nate was excited to go and so far the few reports we have from him are very positive. He texted us that things are going really well. He rented books for a couple of classes and it didn't bankrupt us. He had his first class yesterday (US History) and said it was good and his teacher seemed really nice. I am comforted in the knowledge that this is where he needs to be now, at this time in his life.
