Can anyone fill me in with some details
about what goes on here?

I think this is the restaurant where everyone tells
you not to ask for condiments-especially ketchup.

What happens in this place?

Usually the waiters tease and joke with the diners. Some people enjoy the interaction, and "egg" it on-others do not. It appears that the staff attempts to size up just how involved folks wish to be. We have visited there twice and each time our DS (15) was teased about either manners, politeness, or even how much he ate. We like WC, but I can see how many would not care for the loudness. Both times our dinners were fine-not great, but not bad.

If you want shenanigans, and a loud, boisterous meal, WCC may be the place for you. They have stick horse parades with the kids, the servers tease you about various things, they sometimes yell, yodel, sing, and things like that.

Ask for Ketchup, and be sure to ask for a large glass of water. ;)

Personally, we have tried the place 4 times, and had lousy experiences for 3 of them. Mostly poor food, and cranky slow service. The antics sorta seem ill-natured when you have waited far too long for cold greasy food. To be fair, many people have reported liking, or even loving the food there.

The one good experience was at breakfast, when the server was just friendly to us, not boisterous, and the foor was very good.

If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing place to dine, pick somewhere else. :)

We will be trying this restaurant for the first time this trip. I was unaware of the "antics" when I made my PS. The ketchup and large water comment reminded me of this restaurant we ate at in Alabama named Lambert's. If the antics at Whispering Canyon are anything like those at Lambert's, we ought to be alright. I don't mind being made fun of a little, but I also want to be able to enjoy my dinner.

A quick note:

Just to be aware that some of the servers are more outrageous that others.

Our server didn't appear to be "on form" when we went.

Don't get me wrong this is not a complaint it's just that on reflection our expectations were very high.

Hey "Mom"! WCC can be fun, but a lot depends on the server. As mentioned, some appear to enjoy being "on stage", while others are there to just bring you food. That said, some antics:

1) Ask for ketchup (if the servers do it properly, your table will be LOADED with ketchup)

2) Ask the server where their six-shooter is (they don't use the word G-U-N)

3) Ask your server for Pepsi

4) Ask your server for directions to Universal Studios

5) Wear a t-shirt from Universal or other attraction and rave about the great time you had there

6) Ask your server where you can buy GUM at WDW

7) Ask your server for more water

8) Ask your server where the restrooms are

Again, it depends on your server whether or not the hijinks are done. And the reactions can vary...

My DW and I have been a few times; sometimes it was wild and fun, but once it was pretty dull and lifeless.

Thanks you so much for the replies.

It looks like we are going to give this a try.

My DH, DD and DS all think they are the masters
of kidding around. They certainly can dish it out
now we'll see if they can take it!!!

We've got a PS for lunch in November. Does anyone know the age limit on the pony races. My son is 14 and thinks that it would be fun to participate. I think it would be fun to see a 6' tall, lanky kid running around with the little ones.

First let me say that if you are AT ALL reserved, or dislike noise, this is NOT the place for you.

While some of the servers are very good at reading people, others are not... and can get a little "wild". Some things to watch out for are asking for ketchup, large drinks or directions to the bathrooms.

The kids are encouraged to ride around the dining room on wooden horses, whooping it up as loud as they can as they go. Also, when the servers carry their tray stands, they clomp them along like horses hooves.

As for the food... the only food we had that we really liked was the herb roasted chicken. We found the BBQ ribs very tough and chewy, and cold upon arrival to the table. After waiting as long as we did for a table, and for the food, we didn't dare send them back, though.

We did like breakfast, however... the food was very good. One note... we were there as soon as they opened, so the "festivities" of the day hadn't started. Our breakfast experience was very sedate, although my parents went later in the morning, and said that the breakfast paled in comparison to dinner... and considering the dinner was "wild", I have a hard time believing it could have been much wilder!

Let me tell you about my experience with WC. About a week before my trip, a friend from work tells me about a restaurant to avoid, but she can't remember the name. It wasn't because of the food it was the shenanigans that go on and the potential embarrassment you'll have by being the but of jokes/playful humor of the servers. I never found out the name.

We go on our trip to the Wilderness Lodge, driving 18 1/2 hours from NY. Well on our first night after being pretty exhausted from the long drive, I'm thinking, I don't quite need the serenity of Artists Point (because I probably would've fallen asleep in my soup), and fast food of the Roaring Fork snack bar, so Whispering Canyon seemed like a good idea, at the time. About 13 seconds after we were seated, it hit me....OMG this is the place Judy told e NOT to go to...I told my DW to just sit down and be quite, don't ask for anything that's not here don't draw any unnecessary attention to us.

Well it was probably only due to the fact that we were so exhausted that this seemed like a bad idea, because alot of people seemed to enjoy the clowning around and little outbursts from the servers. For the most part I think they saw it in face that I had just spent the last 20 hours awake and in a car, so I appreciated that. The food was good, if you like smokey BBQ type stuff.

If nothing else it's interactive entertainment while you eat.

Hope that helps!

We went to Whispering Canyon last December and really enjoyed it. However, we saw NO antics. There was one table w/ a HUGE thing of tea on the table, but that's it. It was really quiet, no many tables. And the CM serving us was nice, but she didn't do any antics...and that was fine w/ us!
