Disney will die from political correctness.

Whew, now that's out of my system....I can tell you about Whispering Canyon.

We have always LOVED the "why do they call it WHISPERING Canyon".....for the fun and the food.

There is now no more "fun".

Apparently a few guests have been offended by the "fun" at Whispering Canyon, complained loudly enough... and its .... GONE.

They now sing the "happy song" on the hour and quietly pass around catsup and allow the little kids to ride the stick ponies.

We were heartbroken. How can I forget my "extra large iced tea".....in a big mixing bow or my DH's "new straw hat"....made out of.....STRAWS <--- he was required to wear through breakfast.

No more fun?

It is very sad.

I'm sure someone else has written this....I just missed the threads before we left for WDW.

Stop.....write a letter and ask for the fun back!

We went in September for dinner and saw none of the "fun" as people have written about. We saw one quiet display of a ketchup bottle and that was it. Plus our food was absolutely horrible and we would not go back in any event. Seems as if Disney is taking a lot away (character meals, etc.).

We were just there Tuesday night (last week) and saw some fun. Granted we asked for it to be low key at our table with one of my sons being Autistic. But the tables around us were having a grand time. We laughed at their 'fun'. The kids shouted for Ketchup, and got it. The waitresses had fun with them. I saw one guy behind us with a big old tea!!! He said he eats there a few times each trip and he must cause the waitress seemed to know him.

The food was great! If your going there to eat your ok. If your expecting a 5 star entertainment package then go somewhere else. I did not see anything above the top but there was some silly stuff around.

I was just there last week for breakfast and had a blast! It was very loud, the ketsup was passed around several times. The waitress threw the staws and napkins at my friend and yelled "catch" before my friend even knew what happend. We made friend with all of the tables around us, which came in handy when it was our turn to pass the ketsup. 30+ bottles of ketsup and 2 people makes for many trips :lmao:

We have ADR to go there next month. We have never been there before. Is it still worth going?

The Wildie is beautiful so it's always worth a trip just to spend some quiet time discovering a beautiful resort.

The menu seemed to be the least changed of the restaurants we visited so it's still good comfort food.

If you were going for the silliness...you may be a little disapointed.

Go....enjoy a walk around a beautiful resort and have a great meal....my opinion.

We were there last Wednesday night for DS's 11th bday dinner per his request. It seemed just as loud as during previous visits. Our waitress was into the part (as were we) and yelled to/at my SIL across the restaurant when she was late for dinner due to being on her phone. She threw the straws, announced to the restaurant that it was DS's Bday and then later had the whole section sing "Happy Birthday" to him. She did tell us that they were not "allowed" to embarass the guests anymore even if we said it was ok. :rotfl: We yelled for ketchup as did many others. The waitstaff made the tray stand "gallop" across the floor plus kid's pony races. We had a great time as always.

I wish Disney didn't have to take away fun from the majority, just because a few people complain about things. There are legitimate complaints about things but some people go way too far with them in my opinion. If I knew who to talk to I would gladly donate my time and materials to create signs vinyl signs where needed.

WARNING:
The restaurant you are about to enter has the potential to be loud, insulting, crowded, wild, and most af all FUN! If you are not able to tolerate, please make alternate plans for your dining needs.

Well, it takes all sorts to make the World go 'round. I'm all for making WDW more adult-friendly! One restaurant and resort at a time, if necessary.

I don't particularly like the antics. But I am really surprised that someone was offended. I know they are all just acting and having fun. I, personally, would prefer to have a quieter atmosphere, so we don't go there that often. I think they should have some type of sign so everyone is aware of what they are getting into when they eat there. As well, when ADRS are made, the CM's should inform them of the antics.

We went in October 2007 and had fun, but that's over a year ago and many things could have changed.

We saw other people having fun :rolleyes1, we tried, but our waiter was not into it.

Our food was mediocre and we left overall disappointed with the experience. If we go back we will ask to be seated in the main dining area, our section was small - between the dining areas and only had about 4-5 tables in it.

In "Tricia's Perfect World" they'd let you know about the possible antics when making ADR's. I think that would be sufficient because if you were a walk up you'd probably be able to hear what was happening. Also, for those that want a quieter experience, the hostess could seat them in that smaller area where we were. We could barely hear the other antics while seated.

I don't know..we've been there several times and each time is different
you see some things one time, then another you see them doing something different.
Just because you didn't see it this time doesn't mean it's gone.
Did you ask and they tell you they don't do that anymore?
Could be you just got a bad server.

We had a fun meal there during our stay last week. I had never been before so it might not be as zany as it used to be, but our server was great.

:) Michele

Taking them away?
Perhaps you missed the 20 different place you can go to have a Character Meal.
How many do you need to have enough?

Actually there are only 10 locations that do character dining and at some of those locations only for one meal. :)

I counted them recently for some reason - without Liberty Tree Tavern, WDW will have available each day 20 separate character meals held in 11 different restaurants. (one of those restaurants is at the Swan.)

Edited to add - unless I am mistaken the Swan one does not offer character breakfast every day, so it's really 19 meals daily.

People who would complain about the fun at Whispering Canyon, shouldn't be there in the first place. Fun is all that place is good for, because it isn't the food. In my opinion, Disney should have doubled the fun. That would at least take people's minds away from the c$&p they serve at the joint.

I was referring to the fact that they were eliminating two of them. I don't need more than the two that I go to. Disney seems to be taking a lot of things away lately...was just pointing out.

The poster had said "places" so I was addressing it as a location issue. You're right, there is one at the Swan on Sat and Sun I believe. (I wasn't counting it as a location though because it's a bit different from the other meals since you can't do DDP there.) :)
