Whispering Canyon experience

I am sorry you had such a bad time. We were there in June and WCC was one of the best meals we had. The food was great and the service was too. We had several TS and character meals. We liked it better than Chef Mickey's. We will be going back there on our next trip! I just hope we don't have a bad experience this time around.

My birthday boy could hear them singing happy birthday to other kids and even kept pointing his badge out to our waitress. All she said was " I know it's your birthday honey, I said Happy Birthday to you". It broke my heart!!

:furious: Oh, no! Please tell me she didn't really say that! There's just absolutely no excuse for making that kind of comment to a child. Breaks my heart. :sad2:

There may have been nothing your server could do about an over-crowded restaurant, but she certainly was in control of how she handled it (and what came out of her mouth). So sorry...hope you found a little pixie dust elsewhere for your BD boy!

Thank you all. I will use the contact information that was provided by you. I didn't raise too much of a fuss at the time because my DH gets embarrassed when I go ballistic...LOL. I did ask for another table and was told that it would be a wait of an hour or more and the kids were starving. I guess my point is that that room shouldn't exist at all or should be reserved for people that request a quiet meal. They talk about the antics in their description of the restaurant and that's what they should deliver!! We didn't get any of the fun at 50's Prime Time either. We just got a boring waitress. The waitress at the next tables was great. At least we could watch and listen to her.

I was recently looking at all the ADR TS Meals menus on AllEars. Look at the page about WCC, it is interesting! On the WCC page there is a list of what antics have been done/reported as being done in the past, but there is also a note where someone has printed the list and took it with them and got upset when they were not done. Apparently, it depends on your server and the antics are in no way guaranteed!

This September we will be dining at WCC for the first time, but we ate at 50's PT last year (twice). We had "awesome" servers... (Mom and Aunt) and lucked out! We did notice on our first trip that the server serving the next section barely smiled and definately did not perform any antics (at this point my 39 year old hubby was sitting in the dining room with a child's sized/decorated plastic bib on and we were (entire section) signing a birthday card for a young "cousin" (another patron) having a birthday... thanks to an awesome server!) :goodvibes The servers definately can "make it or break it" and while it is advertised these activities "may occur", it is not guaranteed. :sad2:

I feel bad for the little guy celebrating. Was it noted on your ADR? In the future I would go somewhere it is guaranteed if celebrating (eg a character dinner where he will see characters and you can have a cake delivered or somewhere like Coral Reef where you can buy a cake and have a diver/menu arranged). Besides the dinner, did he have a great birthday? I hope so! I have heard the parks/CM's celebrate it (ecspecially for kids and when they know... like with a birthday button on). :wizard: I am hoping he got some magic that way! It would in no way have made up for the dinner, but it might have helped him feel better! :goodvibes

Let us know what WDW says!

That's just terrible! I'm sorry you had such a bad time. Makes me think about whether or not my family wants to eat there anymore now (we were thinking about it but these reviews have us worried).

PS By the way, I don't see anything wrong with the upstairs area in Chef Mickey's. I've eaten there soooooooo many times and we've had a good experience no matter where we sat. That's besides the point though.

We had a fabulous dinner, both food and antics wise, at WCC last December. I could see the little section off in the back that was completely cut off from the action. I think (I hope) I would say, nicely, no thanks, we won't take this table.

I do feel for the host/hostess's because they probably have to fill sections in order so that servers get equal numbers of tables. Every restaurant has a least desirable section that has to be filled the same as the best tables. HOWEVER, when I'm paying big bucks to eat at Disney, particularly with my children, I'll stand my ground not to take the worst table. There are people who eat at WCC who prefer not to be in the midst of the antics, so they will find people to eat in that section.

:sad2: Sorry this happened to your little guy. We are planning on going there next month and I had so been looking forward to it!! Thanks for the heads up about that section, I will ask to be seated elsewhere, that's the whole reason we are going for my son since he has to sit thru the princess breakfast for little sis.

I have eaten there once.....never again. We thought the food was nothing more than overpriced picnic food. We had an average server. Our biggest gripe was that when we asked for additional food, they brought so little. We had a party of five. My family wasn't really impressed with any of the food, but the favorite seemed to be the small cobs of corn. When we asked for more, they brought us two pieces. Not sure why they even bothered. We have been to WDW many times as DVC members and before. I would have to say that, honestly, this is the only restaurant to which we would never return. (so that should tell you that we're not really that picky) Hopefully those of you with upcoming reservations will have different experiences.

I know going in however, that there are no guarantees that anything "special" will happen.
That's an important attitude/awareness to have. It's extremely POSSIBLE that the OP's waitress can't sing.

But it's simple to discuss issues with management without going ballistic. Ask for a manager, and discuss the issues as you would with any adult.

I don't know that I think you really have a case for lodging a formal complaint however. It isn't as thought the restaurant is billed as a dinner-show (like Luau/HDDR, etc). You got exactly what you paid for (a table at the restaurant with food), it just might not have been the experience you were hoping for.

I have to agree with this. WCC is a TS, not a dinner show, and the OP got a TS. The antics, activities, "show", and participation of the CMs is not guaranteed. We go to WCC each trip, either breakfast or dinner, and there are times when we've had a very quiet meal and other times when it has been an almost side-splitting fun meal. This is also just like at 50PT - there are times when we've had a CM that was very into providing an 'experience' with the meal and other times when the CM provided good service but not a "show". If I want a dinner show or true character meal I will book HDDR or CM not WCC or 50PT.

I am sorry that they were disappointed and didn't feel included but I feel that if it were that important to sit in the main room the OP should have refused the table in the back. This might have meant sitting in the waiting area longer but you have to do what you feel you have to do. The only way to guarantee special treatment for a birthday is to provide it yourself - one way is to order a cake and have it delivered during a meal.
