Hi all,

Having booked our 1st Character breakfast for Josh at Cape May we are now looking at booking possibly a lunch or dinner too.

I know WCC is probably a bit more noisy, maybe not ideal for Josh, however we like the look of the menu and think we may give it a try.

Any opinions, negative or positive?

Also this is a daft question maybe, but what are timings for dinner - Josh can be sometimes a bit reluctant to leave the villa later in the day

johnny we have booked adr at wcc for the earliest dinner time, off the top of my head i think its 5pm. check it out on allearsnet.com, they have menu and times. Out of interest i read on a different site they have the main rooms and an anti room, which is quieter, this might be useful if you book at a busier time...

i have also confirmed after advice on the DISabilities site, a table near an exit or window, to stop josh flipping, he hates crowds, but saying that he ll probably be so engrossed he wont notice .

Could i just say that chef mickeys is fab, our josh loved it last time, particularly the handkerchief waving... maybe you could try that too!

how old is your josh, mine is 6, so they might not appreciate the same things...

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.

The CM's are soo funny, I havent ever actually stayed at Wilderness lodge however wherever I stay I make two bookings for a evening meal at WCC.

The servers make it, my kids love asking for a blue crayon or ketcup, They shout out to every boy/girl to bring one over and they have a table full.

The servers if you take time to decide, pull up a chair and sit with you at the table looking at the conversation as if it was a tennis game, back and forth.

They orgainsed a pony race around the floor on sticks for the kids they all received certificates and the kids like building the logg cabins at the front, they often complain they are seated too quickly and cannot complete the cabin.

Food is good and filling, the all you can eat is good, but off the menue items better.

Dsiney always looks after ALL children and their needs they wil make the evening enjoyable, some say wearing a Universal T shirt annoys them in a nice way too!

Yes Tracy I have seen the menu , I have actually just checked and lunch is 12-3 , Dinner 5-10.

Will probably go for lunch - Josh is 9...we have though about Chef Mickey's when we looking at CBs but just decided it may be a bit too much for him.

Thanks Andrew - with Josh being autistic I am not sure he will understand the games etc, we are just trying to push him a bit more and we have already booked a CB.

Just trying to look at buffet style restaurants as an alternative to the Ponderosa's etc - although staying in a villa we rarely dine out.

I remember reading a thread on the restaurant (or resorts?) board a while ago about WCC and some people didn't like the "guest participation" aspect of it.

I know that some people will enjoy the antics with the CMs but if you prefer to eat without possible embarrasment this might not be the best place.

We love WCC, but it can be very noisy and frantic.

Although we have always had a great time there, our eldest DD (now 21!) does not enjoy any kind of audience participation if she's expected to participate. On past visits to WCC, even without saying anything to the servers, they quickly became aware of her shyness and did not try to embarrass her, but switched attention to her younger sister who lapped it up! They seem very well tuned-in to those guests who would rather enjoy watching other people participate.

I don't know whether Josh would fall into the 'love the attention' or 'no attention, thanks' category, but I'm sure that if you mention any concerns to the CM at the podium when you check in for your meal, they would make sure your server is aware of them and avoid any potential upset.

I hope you have a wonderful time and Josh enjoys himself as much as we have there

Disney is the best for kids and anyone with a disability, I am sure if you let WCC know they will do their very best, as mentioned before Chef Mickeys is very good as well but a bit loud at times.

Another thought - depending on when in your trip you plan to visit WCC, you could go to WL a couple of days beforehand and sit in the lobby during WCC operating hours (a very pleasant place to sit anyway ). From there you'd get a good impression of the antics taking place, and associated noise levels, as the restaurant is open to the lobby on one side. You might then be better able to judge whether or not it would suit Josh.

Good idea, we are staying 4 nights at the Boardwalk before the rest of our 3 weeks at a villa.
We were thinking of going to WCC after our BWV stay as we already have quite a busy few days planned there including a CB, visits to MK & EPCOT plus making the most of the resort/entertainment etc (first time we have stayed on-site).
Also want to have a look round SSR and OKW as we are thinking of buying into DVC.
(blimey I used to hate abbreviation's!! be doing dancing banana's next....)

The other thing I haven't mentioned yet is I am a very fussy eater, really do not like spicy foods - a very plain eater basically, so having looked at many of the menus , a lot do not really appeal to my tastes.
The Rose & Crown looked the best bet, but really wanted buffet choice as we figure there won't be as much waiting around.

So it's a question of finding somewhere that suit me and Josh, Julie will eat most things apart from Seafood.
Staying in a villa suits us as we can cook whenever we like, plus we like to take out at places like the Outback.
We will also re-visit the likes of Ponderosa again as it basically is ideal for what we want plus gives Josh that bit more confidence in restaurants.

I appreciate that my concerns with our DDs eating may not be the same as your with Josh but, when they were much younger and first finding their way around the whole eating-out scenario, one of my worries was that they could make things uncomfortable for other diners - and me. That probably makes me sound very Victorian!

Consequently, we didn't take them to anywhere too 'sedate' until we knew we could all handle it! However, I would have been very happy taking them to WCC as it's very relaxed, informal and fun. BTW, you mentioned usually sticking to buffet meals, but I'm assuming you realise WCC isn't a buffet

Thanks Hilary - yes we do realise that WCC is not a buffet, however the menu looks okay for all of us.

Having read review about this place, I wouldn't personally touch it with a barge pole. I would feel uncomfortable about any possible unwarranted attention and I'm pretty sure Ashley would be mortified. But you know your family better than anyone and if its what you want good luck to you and hope you enjoy it if you decide to try it.

I am aware of the way they get you involved and I am sure it has it's place among the WDW restaurants, and it was something I thought about yesterday after posting the thread.

I suspect now this is not for us to be honest, I think we wil try the Rose and Crown as we have never tried there, hope to keep Josh awake this time as EPCOT has a habit of sending him to sleep.

There is always KFC anyway!
