I've been watching Barney now for 10+ years. Yesterday I started to wonder....Baby Bop and BJ are brother and sister. He calls her Sissy. How is Barney related???? They call him Barney. Not Uncle or Dad. Is he a family friend? And where are Bop and Bj's parents?

I know I need to get out more. I have a 17 mo dd and it is darn cold out. We're not going anywhere so it's Barney for me. :)

Maybe Barney is their imaginary purple dinosaur friend?;)

Barney is a dinosaur from our imagination....;)

We must have seen just about every Barney episode when my first DD was younger. I don't think they ever explain that actual relationship between BJ/Baby Bop and Barney. He must just be a family friend. Neither do they really mention BJ and Baby Bops parents, although occasionally they need to go home.

What we found disconcerting was that they would have the same set of kids until those kids starting getting too old and then they would be replaced with new younger kids. DH hypothosized that Barney would eat the older ones. This was disproved later during a "reunion" show where they brought back some of the older kids, who were teenagers by then.

A lot of these shows are like that. DD has a Bear in the Big Blue House video on and there's no explaining Bear's relationship with Tutter, Ojo, Treelo, Pip or Pop. Tutter has a grandmother but he doesn't live with her. There's no mention of the other characters parents.

But back to your question, I think Baby Bop and BJ are brother and sister. Maybe Barney is their older brother.

Watch Sesame Street its much better. :p

oh yeah, then we can start discussing the whole ernie and bert living together thing.....

not to mention the fact that muppets don't wear pants :o

In Barney's first concert video, he used magic to introduce the character of Baby Bop by making her appear out of a giant box.

She did a dance move that expressed a lot more soul than she has in modern episodes. :p

I don't know if that means he created her from magic or just teleported her in..perhaps a gypsy dino that stole her from her parents and forces her to perform for his children friends.

I never did see the intro of BJ..but they both dissapear to go "home" on occasion, so who knows?

That is more time than I ever thought I would spend thinking about him again!

That's one of the videos we keep watching over and over again. DH & I always thought her dance moves were quite seductive. She just needed a pole to dance with. LOL!!!:teeth:

Bop is also taller in that video. She shrinks later on. :earseek:

We got a new video for Xmas and Barney, Bop and BJ are all at the zoo. You can see people in the background just casually walking by like its normal to see 3 dinosaurs wandering in the zoo. It was filmed in Texas......... .......is it normal to see dinos wandering the zoo there??? ;)

Sesame Street---Bert & Ernie, some wear clothes, others don't....Don't get me started thinking about all that!!!!

:hyper:

i just have to say this is the BEST thread i have ever read! :teeth:

DH and both his brothers call them Bernie

peg2001 - I have read your post several times today and I am LOL-ROTF imagining Barney eating the children. He gathers them around at the end of the show and sings...

I love you
You love me
I am feeling hun-g-ry

With a great big bite
And a swig of beer or two
Min ole girl, you're hard to chew.

Don't get me wrong. My kids adore Barney. I bet we have thirty videos and have started collecting them on DVD too. I think I know all the words to all the Barney songs ever written. Have you watched Camp Wannarunaround? I think I have seen it 50 times - over and over. I have packed the Christmas ones and the Halloween one away with the holiday decorations so I don't have to hear "jingle jingle jingle joe - jingle at the window tid-e-o." any more than my kids sing it on their own.

Actually, I really like that video! I think it has an excellent Santa and Mrs. Claus.

However, I did not need to get that song in my head....

Pass one window...pass two windows....

Denae- your song is great! I'll have to forward that on to DH. He liked to sing along with the show using his own lyrics: "I love you, you love me, let's hang Barney from a tree."

Our first DD loved Barney so we got to watch it plenty. We even saw one of his live shows. Our second DD did not care for him for some reason. Just as well, we got to graduate to Blue's Clues and Dora the Explorer.

Isn't it funny how different kids love different shows? DD#1 (11) LOVED Barney--DD#2 didn't really care for him and I don't think DS has seen him more than 4 or 5 times. So I haven't really seen him for a few years. I love the new versions of the song I'm seeing here though!
If the kids went on in show business, I wonder what they would be? David might be on Queer eye for all I know ;) , but I am wondering if Min, Tina and the rest got typecast like Steve Burns.

My DS 11mo watches like I would watch Orlando Bloom undress. His eyes are set! My 4.5DS likes him too, but not so much anymore.

I don't have kids and don't watch Barney, but this whole thread has been thoroughly entertaining.

But it's this statement that has ME ROFLMOA...

LOL!!! I always wondered about this in regard to various characters. Actually, Donald Duck is the one that stands out in my mind - why does he wear a shirt, but no pants? And I remember once seeing a cartoon where Donald had just gotten done bathing, and was wearing a towel around his waist (do ducks have waists?) - if he walks around all day without any pants, why the need to be modest after bathing?

Denae - DH loved your Barney song. He corrected me in that "hanging Barney from a tree" is not his. . .but he wanted me to share the following:

Barney comes to play with us,
Whenever we may need him,
But we have to make new friends
Cause Barney tends to eat them.

I'm SO glad that my kids are old enough not to watch Barney now. I could just imagine myself singing those 'new' words to the I love you song, if they still watched it!
