I like all wines. I also love muscadine and plum wine....:)

Red wine tends to give me headaches, so I try to avoid it. As far as whites go, I prefer something sweet like a Riesling.

I'm no wine snob... I'll drink Arbor Mist! :lmao:

Pine Ridge is one of the wine clubs we belong to, and I love their reds. I love their Andrus Reserve. I also really enjoy their Charmstone and Onyx blends.
You are SO lucky to not live in PA. I can't join wine clubs because PA doesn't believe that I should have the right to buy what I want, in the quantities that I want, from where I want. I've written to my state representatives many times to complain about this. Their answer is always, "but we'll lose tax revenue." So tax me and let me buy what I want. Problem solved.

For example, I wanted a bottle of Old Fart Wine for DH's best friend's 40th birthday. I couldn't buy just a bottle. I had to buy half a case. So, I was able to use one more bottle at my uncle's 60th birthday and the rest are aging in my wine cellar. I'd have preferred to take the space up with something better than a gag gift.

I'm jealous of you!

I love an old vine Zinfandel (my fave is Ravenswood)

For an everyday wine, we usually drink white, but for special occasions, we love to buy (and save) a really special French Bordeaux.

Yes! We love a big, flavorful red! Neck and neck with the Bordeaux for me, is a Montepulciano - cheap Italian wine, but so yummy and perfect with good bread. My husband prefers a Chianti over the Monte, though. I also love love love a Sangiovese. I think I was Italian in more than a few of my former lives.

NJ laws are fairly restrictive too, but not as restrictive as PA. Two of the wineries that we joined do not distribute to liquor/wine stores, so we were able to join no problem since there is no other way to buy their wines otherwise. The other two, Pine Ridge and Raymond, are set-up to where the wine goes to a third party and then ships to us. It looks like we bought the wine and we are shipping to ourselves.

There's a website, http://www.freethegrapes.org/, that is trying to change laws and regulations. I would pay the tax to on the wine, that's not why I buy from the wineries, but many times you cannot get what you want at the store, the specific winery and wine, where if you're allowed to purchase direct from the winery you are then able to get what you want. I think purchasing wine should be like anthing else on the internet, you should be able to do it, and if the state you live in taxes the item, you pay the tax.

I'm finding out I'm enjoying so many different wines!

I used to think I didn't care for chardonnay because it was too oaky. Well, oak is out now, and I'm finding some fantastic chards (Australia and S. Africa in particular).

Same with reds; I used to think they're too heavy and only good with a steak. Not so! On a cold night, a nice blend warms me right up.

Even with the blushes/roses, they're becoming drier and drier. One of my best finds last year was a dry rose with a strong watermelon element. Just drinking it by itself on a hot day, I found it almost too dry. But with a grilled chicken salad tossed a homemade watermelon/raspberry vinagrette, OMG -- Heaven!!!

And let's not forget champagne and sparkling wines. These should be enjoyed far more than just on New Year's! Cook up some spicy Thai and pop that cork ... perfectamundo :)

I've been a participating member of Free The Grapes for several years. Whatever works to let me get the wines that I want!

Many vineyards don't even want to deal with PA. It is hard to get Crystal in PA because they don't want to go through the hoops that PA has setup. While I don't favor Crystal, my DH likes it, so every now and then I throw him a bone and let him have "his" champagne. Otherwise, I'd prefer Perrier Jouet, Mumm, or Vieve Clicquot. I think they are much tastier than Crystal or Dom Perignon for that matter. Since my state gets so few bottles of Crystal to sell, it makes it harder for me to surprise my DH without planning ahead when we are out of state.

I'll have to check to see if Pine Ridge can setup a system like they did with you so I can have its wines shipped directly to my home. For a while, I was having wine shipped to my friend in NY, but I only see her a few times a year and she'd show up with 3-4 cases. That got to be a drag for her so we stopped.

I prefer red, specifically chianti, shiraz, beaujolais, and pinot noir.

I do enjoy a good white on occassion though, especially pinot grigio and chardonnay.

I can't stand rose, I'm a snob, I don't consider it "real" wine.
