OK, the large family (grand gathering) trip has been postponed for a year, so we’re going ahead and planning *our* family trip. We’ve finally decided on October. We’ve never been in October, so the question becomes which week. No matter which week we go, I need to pull my oldest out of school, and that’s fine with me. The principle doesn’t care (as long as he does all the make-up work) and he is ahead of curve in most areas academically.

We could o 9/27-10/5 and be there over our anniversary. School will still be in “review” so our oldest won’t miss anything important. He’s really bored enough in school. Problem is DH really isn’t *supposed* to take a vacation in September (or March, December, June, July, and August); however, it will only be two days and they can’t technically stop him. Also, I’m hoping the Halloween party won’t be crowded at all yet.

We could go 10/4-10/12. School should just be finishing up review this week, so again our oldest shouldn’t miss too much. There is no school 10/13, so my kids will have time to rest up before going back to school. I’m guessing from the Disney website that this week is a little more crowded than other weeks in October. I’m still hoping the Halloween party will be a little on the light side of the crowds.

We could go 10/11-10/19. School will start new info. This week, but it will start slowly. My oldest will only be missing 4 days v. 5 days since there is no school 10/13. And, again, I’m guessing from the Disney website that this week is a little more crowded than other weeks in October. I’m also guessing that the Halloween party will start kicking it up a notch. Although, we went to MVMCP when it was sold out and didn’t find the crowds out of control at all.

We could go 10/18-10/26. By the Disney website, it should be low on crowds. I *know* the Halloween party will start to get busier, but still lighter than the next week. My oldest will still technically miss 5 days, but 10/24 is a half day, so there won’t be any academics that day; our school never does academics on a half day.

Last choice is 10/25-11/2. Since 10/24 is a half day of school, we could get a head start on getting there (we drive). It might be fun to be there over Halloween. I wouldn’t want to do the Halloween party on 10/31, so I’m worried what else my kids might be able to do on Halloween. I hear Downtown Disney has trick-or-treating on Halloween. By Disney Website, crowds should be low this week too.

I’m not worried about Hurricane season. Partially because we live off the gulf coast. Partially because DH works in disaster recovery (why he his company doesn’t want him vacationing in the summer months). If a hurricane was coming, his company would be getting us out in plenty of time because he would need to be working. For other employees in the past, they’ve sent private planes before airports close. I’m also not that concerned because we’ve been at WDW between Ivan and Jean in September 2004 when DH worked for another company.

But, 2008 shouldn’t be much different than 2007. The official start date of the 2008 hurricane season is June 1st and I think the end date is November 30th. It’s not like hunting; Hurricanes can come any day of the year. The season just means they are more likely to come at those dates (and it really is a huge time span).

If you're not worried about pulling your child out of school, I'd wait and go possibly the week in between Jersey Week and Thanksgiving. The weather will still be good, but the Food and Wine festival will be over and crowds are a bit less because of the impending Thanksgiving holiday.

If you can postpone until after Thanksgiving, then you can experience WDW during the holiday season. We've never failed to have days where we can swim and we've gone primarily in November and December.

If you really need to go in October, probably 10/18-26 I would vote for.

We did December last year. While I did enjoy going during the holidays, it made Christmas difficult. I just felt like I was running behind for Christmas.
I would NEVER go during Thanksgiving week because of the crowds and the school does testing the week prior which I can not intentionally pull my son out for. We also really want to try the Halloween party. All of that is why we decided on October. October is a definite; I'm just not sure which week since we've never been in October before.
