Easter is the 1st of April and the cheer competitions start 4/25-5/13.

I believe Dapper Days at EP and MK are typically around 4/28-4/29. A slight uptick in crowds but a fun event. There will still be other cheer/dance events going on. They stretch from Jan into 1st week of May. I would pick from very end of April through early/mid May (I'm currently considering between the value season at end of Jan/early Feb and 1st week of May. It's not super hot yet in early May, you get the Flower Garden Fest, and crowds/hotel prices are moderate to avg. Even a week after Easter, it can be real busy, prices are high.

We went a bit later in May - actually arriving on the 5th and staying 10 days. We missed the cheer groups that year and the weather was wonderful. If it were me, I'd go with your dates at the end of April/1st week of May. Kids should be back in school but I'd double check when Spring Break is before you make a final decision.

Easter is April 1, 2018, so that will be a packed weekend with lots of Spring Breakers. Star Wars half marathon will increase crowds Apr 19-22. The rest of the dates in April should have relatively light crowds.

Dates for cheer national championship events are announced over a year in advance. So, if you don't want to share your Disney trip with them, you can plan accordingly!
