I think with all the towncar services, there are going to be instances where a driver is late or doesn't show. I guess the trick is to find the one that this hardly ever happens! Also, I think customer service and how they rectify errors is important.
I have to laugh reading all the different experiences because I must be the oddball -- mine are different from many. First off, everyone who uses Happy Limo seems to love them. Our first experience with an Orlando towncar service was with Happy Limo and it was a bad experience. They left us stranded at Port Canaveral to catch our return flight -- which we almost didn't make. We called for over an hour. At first no one answered the phone. Finally we reached someone who gave us some story. When the driver finally showed up we were told a different story of what went wrong. We JUST made our flight. So, no harm done in the end, but it was very stressful. Additionally, I emailed Happy Limo twice after we returned and never got a response. To me, the fact that their customer service was non-existent after we returned is the real reason why I won't use them again.
Tiffany is another reputable service that many seem to swear by. I may try them at some point, and in fact they had been my first choice when we used Happy Limo, but Tiffany never responded with a quote after contacting them by phone and by email.
The next time we needed an Orlando towncar service, I started looking for one that didn't automatically add the gratuity like Happy Limo does. While I am quick to give a good tip for good service, I wasn't thrilled that Happy Limo took a 20% tip up front and then the service was terrible. So, I started reading good reviews about your ride (this was the beginning of this year). I reserved with them, and then after emailing Rabbit two times to let him know that I would like to use a credit card (as was advertised as being accepted on his website) and that I wanted to see when to make the payment. His response to the email each time was "we prefer cash". I started to feel uneasy with this and in the meantime had been reading glowing reviews of Cartier. At this point, around Feb of this year, they seemed to be the one service that was receiving only positive remarks. I booked with them, received outstanding service for that trip and then again this past September. So, I booked them for our upcoming January trip. Not long after that I started to read negative experiences.
I didn't mean to write a book about this, but I just got to thinking that this is becoming the most dreaded part of the reservation planning for me -- and I LOVE vacation planning. What seemed like a service that I wanted to use to make the trip go smoothly is becoming a stress! I am afraid that I am due for a bad trip with Cartier, after reading about these other ones. And it figures that this upcoming trip is with my sister's family instead of just mine alone, so I have even more people depending on it. I will just keep my eyes open to see if there are more Cartier mishaps. On another note, I have read mostly positive things about FL Tours. I have considered trying them, but they do accept only cash. Our January trip is three legs total and I feel less secure about paying for the entire trip in cash up-front.
So that's my story of the towncars. For now I may stick with Cartier and hope that my good luck streak with them continues. Because, I am starting to think that luck is a big part of it with all of these towncar services.
