Which Tickets do DVC members use?

Hi-

We are going home for the first time in January for 10 days and I have a dilemma. We have 2 days on 2 passes each left from our trip last year, with 3 auxiliarys left on each as well. (we originally purchased the 7 day hopper plus)

DBF said let's just buy ONE 4 day park hopper but yesterday I found out it will cost $200 for one adult 4 day park hopper.

For another $100 I'd just as soon buy another 7 day plus, since they are good forever, except I'm not sure if we'll need all those auxiliary parks, but hey if we'll be going down for the next 40 years, we'll probably use them sometime.

We DEFINITELY won't be doing Disney every day for ten days, so UHP is right out.

I'm wondering what type of tickets do other DVC members purchase???

We buy AP's on years that include two winter trips,PAP's on years that include two May trips. We get minimum of 27 days per year out of our passes.

We have purchased 6 day park hopper plus passes (7 day was sold out at the time and we needed to buy right away). We have then supplemented those with 5 day park hoppers. We will likely keep using the plus options off of the 6 day passes for many years to come (one trip to a water park per visit is the likely way they will be used). The 5 day hopper is by far the best deal of the passes with no plus options (I think it is only about $20 over the 4 day pass to get the fifth day).

Oh yeah, I forgot about AP's, but we probably won't do those either, since we only go down once a year.

Planning on going twice in 2005, doing another family reunion. Maybe that year AP's would be worth it.

Do you go down around the same time every year? Because what we're doing is buying ap's for our trip in November and then going down next year about two weeks earlier, like late October. You can always use the days you have left on your hoppers towards the purchase of an annual pass. Just a thought....

But if you do that, you will lose the plus options. Disney doesn't give you any credit for the plus options when you turn in partially used tickets to get a credit towards a new pass.

Since you know you will be coming back (but not soon enough to use an AP or PAP), I'd go with the 7 day PHP. It provides the lowest per day cost, even if you do not use the plus options.

Thanks for the tip CarolMN. I didn't know we would lose the aux options if we upgraded, which is one option I was considering.

I'm thinking for the way we use the parks the 7 day is probably the best for us.

Keep in mind that, if you do not use the auxiliary parks, the 7 day plus pass is actually slightly more expensive per day than the 5 day hopper pass. If you will use the plus options, then the 7 day hopper plus is an awesome buy for your purposes. Good luck!

Since we have no plans of visiting WDW twice in the upcoming year, we just bought our 7 day PHP tickets. I struggled wiht which option was the best for us and finally decided on these because they don't expire. I think for us it was the right decision.

We bought AP's for this (just past) August, and then have another DVC trip planned next July. 4 weeks of use for our AP's.

Recently added on a Christmas trip (so AP's don't ACTUALLY save money, they cost you MORE!)

So, now we have 5 weeks of use! (Unless I can sneak in any more trips!)

2004 we are doing a cruise (anyone want to buy my 2004 DVC points? BCV and VWL... ), and then we'll probably buy AP's again in 2005 and start all over!

Ever since moving to Florida, we have found the Florida Resident's Seasonal pass a very good deal.

We moved to Florida to be able to take advantage of these passes.

We're in the same boat as tagrel. Really the AP's are quite cheap if you space your trips to use the AP twice. It doesn't have to go by the calendar year...i

And even if you are only going to the parks 8 days the AP turns out to be the most economical choice.

Of course, we're going to get...hmmmm....about 34 days of use on our AP's this year. Well worth it. We'll get new ones at the beginning of our trip in 2003 and use them for trips in 2003 and 2004.

And if you get a pass without the plus options, you can now use up the ones on your current passes. You really do pay for those plus options, so you'll want to use them!

One problem with your plan to get only one more ticket.....all tickets are for the use of one person only...they put names even on daily tickets.

It depends. If we are planning on visiting at least 9 days in 12 months, then we buy AP's with the 5% DC discount. If 8 or less days during a 12 month period, then we buy the UMP with the 10% DVC discount.

This past year (starting August 2001) we spent 20 days at WDW and puchased the AP's last August. Right now we only have a 3 day Feb. stay after a cruise planned and a 5 day stay at OKW for August, so will get UMP's for them.

Wow I should have known DVC members would be as creative with their passes as they are with their points! It's also nice to know that the AP's become the best deal at the 8 or more day mark. I'll have to keep that in mind.

We buy annual passes because we usually go to the parks 10-12 days each trip. Then we just go back the next year before the annual passes expire. They are a real money saver!

If you are spending at least ten days per calendar year APs are the way to go. I think ten days is the break even point vice buying park hoppers.

Annual passes are the best for our family. We work in about 20 days in the parks over the 12 months it's good for. We don't renew anymore if the next trip won't be for several months after the expiration since the renewal starts immediately.

Annual Passes for us, too ! As a matter of fact, on our last trip - June 2002 - we purchased water park APs so that we could use those parks during our time there. We don't do DisneyQuest (yet) or PI so the price difference between at AP and the PAP was too much to be justified for us.
The only negative now is that we would like to go back during spring break 2003 and early june 2003 to use the water park APs more. And then buy a set of APs to start the whole major park cycle again later on in 2003 ! Sheesh .......
