Hello all, we have reservations for eight meals during our stay but we will have to pay for two (because we are going to the luau for one). Our family includes two adults and two children (5,4) Our choices include:
-Chef Mickey's
-Sci-Fi Cafe (lunch)
-Whispering Canyon
-Le Cellier
-Ohana
-Crystal Palace
-Akershus

Thoughts?

If any of them are breakfast, then I would pay OOP for those. Whispering Canyon for lunch is probably reasonable, too.

Over at allears.net, you can find menus with pricing, which should help you decide.

We usually end up cancelling one or two ADR's during the week just because the dining plan is too much food, or we decide to change our schedule at the last minute. So you may decide to eat CS instead, which is a lot cheaper.

Lunch is normally cheaper so I say Sci Fi

Agreed! We've paid for Sci-Fi the last 2 years as we've been in a similar situation. Also, our now 4 year old doesn't each much so I usually share food with him. Found our receipt from last year and our lunch (burgers and shakes for adults and 1 kids meal) was $59 with tip. Hope this helps.

I may be wrong but I thought I read on another post that the whole party doesn't have to use the TS credits at the same meal. Based on the prices and your childrens' eating habits you may want to use their TS at the buffets while paying OOP for you and the other adult. As a previous poster said check out the prices at www.allears.net to get an idea on your costs

How many nights are you staying w/DDP? 7 or 8 nights?
Have you consider sharing your lunch at Sci-fi? That's 2 adults w/1 TS and pay OOP for one child TS. I had shared 1 TS entree between me and my sister there before. They even split our beef and blue salad into perfect portion for us. The half portions were huge. If you share a couple of non-buffet lunches, you will save enough for the 2TS Luau. Paying OOP for your extra drink and share your entree shouldn't be a problem at most restaurant.

We will be there for seven nights. The only lunch meal we will be eating at a sit-down place is the sci-fi. The rest are dinners.

If that's the case, I would definitely share an entree between 2 adults and pay OOP for this meal. After all, people tend to eat less at lunch right? :lmao: I would like to think that CP will be the cheapest buffet on your list. Please check. If it costs less the rest, go ahead and pay OOP for this one.
