Which school field trips do you remember going on?

Pennsbury Manor. That's was pretty cool. They divided us up in groups and some people learned to churn butter and some bake something etc.

I grew up in a remote rural community and we had none - there was really nowhere to go. Our annual "field trip" was literally that; we'd have an all-day school picnic in early summer at one farm or another. I went to a Catholic high school and the only travel opportunity was an annual trip to the Vatican for those who were considering a religious vocation. Hardly anybody went; I certainly didn't.

Outer Banks: saw Jockey's Ridge, Elizabethan Gardens, etc.
NC Zoo
Washington DC
Town Creek Indian Mound
Assateague Island to see the ponies

Oh, and in high school we all got to go see Schindler's List in the theater.

In Primary 7 (aged 10) we went to Paris. Horrific trip because of nasty girls.
In Secondary 1 (aged 11) went to Aviemore, for a ski trip and outdoor education (BMX riding, hiking etc.) (no snow though :p and then again a couple of months later it was too windy)
In Secondary 2/3 (aged 13/14) went to Disneyland Paris for a maths trip. We got to go into the park after it was closed into a big lecture theatre under space mountain. Very cool! (Lectures were super boring though).
In S5 (aged 16/17) went to Perth for a religious retreat. Really lovely and everyone was very close after it (for about a week :p)

I forgot - we went on a math club overnight field trip my junior year. A girl mixed booze with pills and ODed. She didn't die - but was hospitalized. That was a fun ride home on the bus.

I remember a few, one that comes to mind was our Spanish class going to NYC to see Evita. We were free to get lunch on our own (keep in mind this is the 80's before clean up), some kids ended at at Beefsteak Charlie's drinking beer, some others ended at at peep shows (and DH may or may not have been one of them...).

In high school (1976), we went to see the freedom train. But - the train people messed up the scheduling, and we waited in line for hours without getting in. The highlight - one of the teachers cursed out one of the train people. It was some fine cursing. Most memorable trip ever.

Best trip - we went to see King Tut. And that was before they sent copies of the stuff around like they do now. It was great.

We also went to see President Ford speak. Someone tried to kill him. It was a debacle.
We saw King Tut!

The Campbell's Soup Museum and Factory, a Tour of Old City Philadelphia, Clementon Park, and NYC for our 8th grade trip. That's really all I remember!

Oh, I remember several of them. The Zoo was common year after year. Same for the science/history museum. We did the Wonder Bread factory once, Hunstville space center, this place were we could dig for fossils and got all muddy. In 8th grade we had some service obligations at my Catholic school, so we would do volunteer work at various locations. Also, since it was Catholic school, we were taken to see the movie "Romero," which is the only time I can think of a field trip to the movies.

I grew up in Springfield, Illinois, so my childhood was lousy with trips to the Abraham Lincoln sites, of which there are dozens in and around Springfield. By 6th grade I swear I'd learned that just about every plank of wood in downtown Springfield had some connection to him.

We never went on overnight field trips though.

We did the basic stuff like zoos and parks...

I was in theater/drama classes so a lot of plays and things, too. And a few theme parks in our state.

But my two favorites are:

In 8th grade, the yearbook staff and drama class kids combined to take a trip to St. Louis to see Beauty and the Beast at The Fox Theater. It was wonderful! After the show, the actors who played Lumiere and the Beast came onto our school bus to say hello to us! All the girls were in love with Lumiere after seeing the show, so we were SO excited.

And my senior year, I was in a class called stagecraft. We were in charge of the school plays from set building to stage managing.

We went to see the Miss USA pageant dress rehearsal...hosted by Carson Daly and with performances by Christina Aguilera, Brian McKnight and Mark Wills (singing Back at One together, since both released the song on the pop and country charts that year), and Lou Bega. Mambo Number 5, anyone?? I feel like there was someone else but can't remember!

The Mambo Number 5 part was the swimsuit competition, and he had to keep singing parts of it over and over and over...he ended up just sitting down on a stage prop at one point while they'd practice a certain part of the girls walking again and again.
Christina Aguilera was AMAZING live, she sounded perfect, and even the kids who were too cool to listen to her music thought she was incredible.

That trip really stood out because it was so cool to watch the dress rehearsal. Because we were in Missouri (my home state), they picked Miss Missouri for the "winner" for the end of the rehearsal. It was fun!

I remember two. In fifth grade we went to see the Nutcracker in NYC and the bus broke down on the way there and we arrived around intermission.

The other one I remember was a French field trip in high school to see a French movie which clearly the teachers hadn't screened in advance:o

Growing up in central VA, my kids have had some cool field trips. The big one for them so far was Mt. Vernon.

There are a few fun ones I remember...

In elementary school:
3rd or 4th grade: We did this thing called a "Mud Walk" where basically we were told to wear old clothes and sneakers. When we got to the Environmental Studies Center where the Mud Walk took place, the employees and teachers and chaperones duct-taped our pants to our shoes and let us loose on what was essentially a nature walk where we deliberately slogged through the mud. I'm short, so I remember the mud being literally up to my chest. As 8-9 year olds, we obviously thought this was the greatest thing ever (and there were adults with us who could help if someone got stuck).

I also remember going to the old fort in St. Augustine in 2nd grade.

In middle school:
The only one I really remember from middle school was an 8th grade science trip to Sea World, in which we got soaked in the "splash zone" for the killer whale show and thought it was hilarious that when we dried out, we could see the salt lines on our legs from the saltwater.

In high school:
My senior drama trip was to Atlanta, where we saw Beauty and the Beast at the Fox Theater and also performances at the Shakespeare Tavern. We also did a workshop with the actors in the theater company for the Shakespeare Tavern, which was great!

My senior band trip (I was in color guard) was to New Orleans for Spring Break. We did the Audubon Center, a ghost tour through the French Quarter, and our banquet was in this warehouse where they keep Mardi Gras floats, so we were able to wander around after dinner and look at all the floats.

I also seem to remember going to Six Flags Over Georgia for band in my senior year as well. We had a competition nearby, so instead of driving the 6 hours home, we stayed overnight and went to Six Flags the day after the competition.

Drake's Island Adventure Center. 5th grade.

We spent a blissful week sailing, canoeing, rock climbing and the like. It was incredible.

In elementary I remember visiting the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, the National Zoo and the planetarium. Also, I was a safety patrol and we got to go see The Karate Kid in the theater!

In middle school we went to Philadelphia/Liberty Bell, etc.

In high school I remember a sort of 'scared straight' field trip to Lorton Prison! Yeah.. no license plate making for me! :scared:

My earliest memory of a field trip( I was in elementary school) and for some reason we went to the mall where there was a French restaurant and I had my first crepe.

Jamestown: 5th grade after we read about Pocahantas.

12th grade: a day trip to D.C. toured the White House, FBI, Supreme Court, etc.

Now I recall most of my dd's field trips. Our school system loved going to Jamestown, lol.
A fire station with barbed wire around it(not in the best part if town)
Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Yorktown. Their last one when she was in middle school: was to our capital of Richmond, here in VA. Art museum, Science museum, Holocaust Museum all in one day, everyone was exhausted by end if day.

Lots and lots.

But I did not grow up in the US so you wouldn't know any of the locations.

But they included train rides, beach, mountains, temples, mosques, sightseeing, camping, caves, hiking, and trips to the city.

The worst one was when I was in Kindergarten in NYC, we went to have breakfast with Santa on the way back on the bus I got sick, vomited all over myself on the bus... a very very long time ago and I still remember that horrible feeling.

We moved to Florida in 1973 and I remember going to Disney World for the day in 5th grade and 8th grade and for Grad Nite in 1982. It was so much fun to be in the MK with my friends for the day.

I worked in the building next door to Wonder Bread for a year, graveyard shift when the ovens were going full speed. I think I put on 30 pounds just from the smell.

I remember that smell. There were a couple of large-scale bakeries making white bread in the East Bay. One was the Kilpatrick's Bakery off of 880 in Oakland. The name might have changed a few times (maybe Rainbo?) as the owner started consolidating names. I could smell that even traveling 60 MPH on the freeway. Another was at the Safeway warehouse in Richmond. It was primarily a warehouse space, but they also baked soft bread there. We passed by there because it was the best way to get to Price Club.

The San Francisco French Bread Company also had a bakery in Oakland near the Coliseum. It was mostly baking sourdough, and I don't recall the smell to be that powerful. I do remember buying bread that was just delivered, and it was still warm.
