Which rule to enforce next?

What about enforcing no vulgar swimwear in the waterparks. I can't tell you how many bare rearends I've seen because men's shorts were too loose. I've seen WAYYYY more nipples through wet bathing suits, than I care to. I've seen men's packages bulge out out their bananna hammocks. And once there was a "Brazilain" woman who was wearing a knitted bathing suit that was completely transparent, "that's how we know she was a (Brazilain)". Sorry to be so gross. Disney is supposed to be a family park, wear that kind of stuff at Sandals if you must or the French Riviera not Typhoon Lagoon.

Again sorry for being so gross.

AMEN!!!!! I accept the fact that smokers need to smoke while at the parks, but please, please keep it in the designated areas. It's really unpleasant to be walking next to people who are smoking, or waiting in line with them. The smoke that inevitably drifts over makes my throat burn for the rest of the day.

We were waiting to get on Kilamanjaro Safari. We were waiting on the fastpass line, and two teenage girls were in front of us. Out of no where, eight or so of their friends run up and join them. Ten skimpily dressed girls taking our place in line! We made loud comments that amused some other disgruntled people like, "Isn' it so rude to cut lines like that. It happened on another ride and the people got sent to the back of the line." The CM taking the fastpasses was there, and we expected him to do something because he had seen the whole thing. Guess what the clown does! He goes and flirts with them!!!!!!!!!!!! :furious: :furious: Talk about lack of enforcement!!!! Luckily, they didn't preclude us from getting on our rightful car. If they did, we would have gotten very upset and seen someone higher up. Unfortunately, when we did get on, the unusually good view of the animals was marred by cell phone ringing and incessant chatter.
I forgot to mention that they all lit up in a no-smoking area. Animal Kingdom shouldn't allow smoking outside of designated areas because there is so much foliage that a thrown butt could start a fire.

Though most of the suggestions made are good ones, I don't think I'd have much fun in WDW if the CMs were an army of "soup nazis" waiting to pounce on every guest that strayed from the straight and narrow. ( of course, straight and narrrow as defined by us on the DIS ) As I said, though I find many of the behaviors cited on this thread just as irritating as anyone else, I think the cure would be worse than the disease.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 I agree.

No soup for you!

Very true - I would not be in favor of Mickey Police wandering the parks to enforce the rule... riot guns at the ready... mouse ears on top of their Kevlar helmets... Doberman's with Pluto costimes...

But there is also the flip side - too much enforcement = no fun for anyone, but NO enforcement = no fun for anyone, either.

Disney's current policy on rule violations in the parks seems to be the Blind Eye policy, with the intent to avoid antagonizing those who break the rules and might cause a stink.

But this policy is Blind in more ways than one, because for every line cutter who doesn't get antagonized, there are 150 law-abiding Guests who ARE antagonized and want to know why that guy gets to cut in line while we're waiting patiently.

For every smoking policy violator who doesn;t get antagonized, there are 150 people who ARE antagonized either by breathing in the noxious fumes, or because they are obeying the rules and smoking where they should and resent others making them look bad.

For every person who pees in a bottle or lets his kid pee in the bushes who doesn't get antagonized, there are 150 others who ARE antagonized by the disgusting, unsanitary practices of these Neanderthals.

Who is more likely to become a repeat Guest - the people who grin like the Cheshire cat as they skate along, breaking a bunch of rules and having a great time - or the others who obey the rules but have their vacations negatively impacted by being jostled, trampled, tripped, grossed out, choked, or burned by the rule-breakers?

Those of us here on the DIS are something of a special breed. Most of us are repeat Disney Guests who can let the Magic happen despite those who break the rules and impose their rudeness, carelessness, recklessness or unsanitary habits on those around them. We realise the difficult position Disney is in as a business, and don't allow our vacations to be ruined by the buffonish antics of a few morons.

But everybody has a breaking point.

Beautifully said! :thumbsup2 I agree with everything you said. A balance needs to be found between the "anything goes, avoid confrontation at all cost policy" and the "police state" policy. And I truly believe that the vast majority of pleasant, rule-abiding Disney guests needs to be protected from the selfish "I can do whatever I want" minority.

For instance, I could pass on Disney CM's enforcing the "no string tie tops" rule (though I personally would never wear one), but they need to step in to situations such as a woman chain smoking among the packed Spectromagic crowds and other "in your face" violations.

Rules I wish were enforced:

1. Smoking in designated areas only.

2. Queue lines for characters supervised.

3. No using a resort pool without being a resort guest.

4. Appropriate clothing (no bikini tops/daisy-dukes/vulgar pics or words).

5. No Heely's.

6. I know it ain;t PC but I wish the loud "chanty" tour groups could somehow be roped in and made to behave (same for cheerleaders/bands/Pop Warner's etc)

:) I seem to remember all the rules being enforced more 15-20 years ago. When we first started going to WDW in 1988, no one took food in the parks, people were stopped from cutting in line, you always had to move to the end of the row, children were even asked to get down from railings etc. I never saw anyone get angry at being asked not to do something, so I don't think enforcement would be that big of a problem (at least no after people realize rules are being enforced).
Can't wait to be there, rules or no rules.

Here are a few that have affected me personally. We went to DLR last summer and we were tired and found some great benches on top of the platform near the train station. We knew that the parade was going to be at 3 and this was 1:30 or something. We were actually at the end of the parade route so it wouldn't reach us till around 3:30. So we were there a full 2 hours before the parade started.

All was well until about a half hour before when first one family came up and wanted to crowd us by sharing our bench (there was 7 of us). Then just before the parade started (and it may have even been after) this RUDE French guy came up and pushed his daughter in front of us. HELLO, we were there WAY before the thing started and I made a comment like if you wanted to get that kind of spot you should have showed up EARLY like WE DID!!!

Needless to say it got ugly cuz he called me the B word and my husband almost decked him. WHY WHY WHY do people think they can just walk up at the last second and push themselves in front of others who had the common sense to get there EARLY to get a spot. Needless to say it ruined my whole parade and I didn't even get to enjoy it cuz I was fuming.

I also agree with the character thing. When we have gone to DW it seems people know how to wait in line and don't push or cut. NOT at DL. People swarm the characters and even if you have the brains to wait in line some moron comes up and just WALKS up. HELLO don't you see the giant LINE of people waiting?

And while I totally agree with no line cutting what I don't like is someone making a smart *** comment when I have been waiting in line just as long as everyone else and right before we get on the ride my little one can't wait any longer to pee. She was 4 and just barely potty trained last time we went and twice someone had to miss the entire ride cuz she couldn't hold it. I think sometimes people who may not have kids or whose kids are grown forget that when you have one so little they can't hold it. Then when the person comes back with her they make a "hey no cutting" remark. Hello I DID wait in the same as you and as an adult YES I can hold it but little kids can't.

I am sure there are more but those are the few that really get to me.

what every happened to those nice people ...I was at Epcot last week and notice a child (guessed 8) sitting legs over the side on the second floor of Japan ....my only thought was why aren’t more people screaming at this child...because god knows if he fell his parents would be suing before they left the park...

That and I have to add
If you sprinkle while you tinkle please be neat and wipe the seat

I second this nomination. ::yes::

In reading this post I read several times about "smokers" Ok DH and I both smoke. We ALLWAYS go to a designated Smoking area. So I have to say that the rule I would like to see is this:

If you are not smoking stay OUT of the designated smoking areas. Every trip we have made to WDW there are allways non-smokers sitting in the smoking area. Is it because they are mainly in a somewhat shaded area and if you are a non smoker then somehow smoke is less bothersom if you are in the shade on a 90 degree plus day???

Just a thought here there has to be a reason for them being in there when so many protest smoking and how horrable it is to anyone that happens to pass through it if even for a second.

I second this. We were at MGM on Friday, in the designated smoking area and we were standing next to a woman with a baby in a carriage. No problem, shade is shade. What wasn't okay was then she started yelling at us for smoking and told us to "go stand over there because my baby has allergies". "Over there", btw, would have been outside the smoking area, and I refused to move.

So, I let her have it (she was very nasty and rude) and told her that if she was so worried about her precious kid's allergies, she should get out of the smoking area.

The kicker? She didn't leave, and kept glaring at my husband while he was smoking. Even after she knew she was sitting smack in the middle of a smoking area. Sorry, but that's rude. There's enough park for everyone, and if you don't like smoking, don't set up camp in a smoking area and try to throw the people out who are being courteous and using it as it's meant to be used!

I wasn't in a "designated area" several times when I encountered this problem. One of them was in world show case over a bridge and one was in toontown fair.

Well, of course that is just being ridiculous. I am one of the ones who is extremely bothered by people smoking outside of the designated areas (such as in attraction lines and walkways), but I think this lady's expectation was equally wrong.

So to you smokers who use the designated areas - I sincerely thank you and appreciate the extra effort! :thumbsup2 I am sorry that people have wrongly complained to you about your smoking in the designated smoking areas. That's just plain wrong.

I never really understood the logic behind waiting for your fastpass return time. If you are going to stand at the attraction why don't you just wait in line instead. Things that make you go hummmmmmmmmmmm!!! :confused3

Here's one. The tour groups from foreign countries that one person saves the place in line for everyone else. I've seen it happen a few years ago and then this year. Even happened at Security Check points.

I don't mind sharing the shade...when you can get it. But, I do hate the people who "join" us smokers in the smoking section and complain about the smoke! :rolleyes1
My DH and I both smoke and never smoke outside the smoking section but we have encountered many complaints inside an area designated for smokers! Ok, once we did but it was a mistake. We were at a water park and were not carring a map around in the pool. We went in search of a place to have a cig. and came upon a dead end path with a couple of seats and an ashtray. Several people were standing around having a smoke. Well, with the ashtray there we thought it was a smoking section until a CM came up and really was rude to us about smoking in a no smoking section....I suggested they remove the ashtray so people wouldn't be confused. He told me it was for idiots like us that would smoke there anyway. :confused3

I'm sorry, but no one is that important that they can't put the phone on vibrate for the 5 minute ride and call the caller back when they get off! If you absolutely need to speak with your kids, then they aren't old enough to be roaming around with out you.

I also agree with no flash photography during certain rides. I really don't think people realize how annoying it is. I'm sure no one wants to ruin rides or productions, I just think it's ignorance.
On the flip side though, the day after POTC opened I was looking all over the net for pics - so I guess I'm sort of a hypocrite on this one huh?

More often than not, you'd think the multiple ash trays in the smoking area would be the clue that people might be about to smoke there. Nah!

Almost every time we've been there, someone has complained about smokers in smoking areas. I suppose it's because you may not notice the signs if you're not looking for them, and indeed, sometimes you see the ashtrays first and don't ever see the signs- people gravitate towards the benches and shade and I think once they get comfy they'd rather try to run off the smokers than move out of the area themselves. I also sometimes wonder if people don't do it on purpose to be obnoxious, but if they have nothing better to do at Disney...well, there's no help for them! :lmao:

I really do think a legitimate complaint can be made about the smoking areas in World Showcase- many of them aren't well placed and are too close to the main walkways.

I Second That!

Last year we found what we thought was a great place for watching the fireworks-until we realized it was the smoking section. I coudn't figure out why our family was the only group not smoking-DUH. Anyway, that was our fault, not the people smoking.

Like a lot of other things, a few inconsiderate people make an entire group look bad. I think that most smokers do try to be considerate, it's just that those that don't are very noticeable and often combative when confronted.
