Which rides/attractions do you simply skip? Why?

Traveling next month with my DH, DS7 and DD4!...not our first rodeo though

we will skip Stitch bc it's awful

Carousel of Progress bc it's a nightmare staying on if my kids are bored

Astro Orbiter bc it's nauseating for us

DS7 doesn't like rides that "make him feel all twisty" so no Star Tours or Soarin for him. My parents go with us so we can split the group.

DD4 loves scary movies made for kids (Goosebumps, Are You Afraid of the Dark) so she's excited for Tower of Terror. DS refuses to go on it bc of the drop.

When in doubt, watch the ride through videos on YouTube. Every kid is different.

If you have a short time- don't try everything. Try what you can't miss, then add what you'd like. Make a list of "if we have time."

We go pretty much every 2 years, so when we miss something, we plan for next time. I missed Soarin 2 trips in a row- once for pregnancy and once because we just didn't get to it. We still had plenty of fun.

I like to try all the attractions at least once before deciding whether to skip it on future visits. That said, my "skip it for all future visits" list is:

Primeval Whirl and Mission Space (makes me sick)
Country Bear Jamboree (our whole family agrees it was creepy)
Tiki Room (just not a fan)
Dinosaur (sensory OVERLOAD plus whiplash)
Princess Meet & Greets - my girls have outgrown it

There are still a lot of attractions we have skipped due to listing them as low-priority - we'll get to the them if we have time, but even after 7 trips there are still a lot of things left to try for the first time: Hall of Presidents, Stitch, Astro Orbiter, Winnie the Pooh, Indiana Jones, and more!

Can't believe no one mentioned Pirates in Hollywood Studios. It's by far the worst experience in the world. You get done and think you will now go on to the ride to find out that what you just experienced was the extent of it. If you have to go on it don't waste time in line if it's longer than 1 show.

Completely agree, we were so disappointed in this.

Skip:

Swiss Family Treehouse -- who?
Test Track -- I can drive 60 mph anytime I want.
Great Movie Ride -- worse than Swiss Family Treehouse.
Tiki Room -- Just generally boring
Muppets -- :confused3 seriously don't get it.
Any arcade anywhere in WDW.

I agree about TT, but we are really into cars and get a lot of speeding tickets. I thought it was just us:) Radiator Springs Racers is more fun.

GM & Muppets definitely.

However, if possible, it's always good to do each ride once.

Tea Cups - even looking at them makes me green
Mission Space - I've only ever done the Green level and hard to work very hard not to throw up
Stitch - was a waste of time and don't see the point of being belted into the seats
Country Bear Jamboree - just didn't enjoy it at all
O Canada movie - I'm from Canada and love my country, but this is a seriously outdated movie (even with the not so long ago update). B and C-list celebs don't help it at all. Canada is a big a diverse nation and we could have a way better movie (rant over).
Ellen's Energy - for no other reason than it doesn't seem appealing
Conservation station - no need to go to a petting zoo

Definitely should try everything once. But no, it's not just you. It was my daughter, 13, who brought TT up last time we were there. We jumped through all the hoops and waited like good Scouts in the standby. This was just after the upgrade. As we were walking out she leaned into me and was like "I don't remember it being so boring. All we did was go 60 mph."

She was 8 the last time we had ridden TT and I guess the hype was enough then. It will always remain a mystery how WDW has made going the speed limit on an interstate a flagship attraction at Epcot.:confused3

I'd much rather ride the Carousel of Progress than Test Track. That old thing just hits me in my Disney heart.:drive:

MK
Stitch - hate those shoulder bars and it's not entertaining, just annoying
Tiki room - boring
Speedway - horrendous exhaust smells even just walking by it
Aladdin carpets, tea cups, dumbo, winnie the pooh, barnstormer - boring and I have no nostalgic connection

Epcot
Figment - boring
Ellen's Universe of Energy - 40 mins is too long in a park with so many other things to see and do
Mission Space - get nauseous

DHS
Rockin Rollercoaster - get nauseous

Oh yes, forgot Speedway! Just a terrible attraction for so many reasons!

First off, congratulations! I'm sure you'll have fun. :)

I'm not a big fan of thrill rides, I've done Thunder Mountain before, not really sure I'd do it again. Knowing myself, I probably will. I usually skip the roller coasters, or anything with big drops such as TOT. I tried to convince myself to ride Space Mountain back in 2011, but a quick ride on the TTA proved me otherwise. Otherwise, we usually do most of the rides in MK if we have the time. But don't be afraid to try new things!

We skip a lot of rides because we have gone a lot; however if I had to do all the attractions/shows and only could skip one I would skip the Swiss Family Treehouse in MK. While I agree Stitch is awful at least something happens. The Treehouse is climbing stairs to look at ....... furniture.

Stitch, doesn't everyone?
Tiki Birds, seriously painful

There are others we don't make of point of trying to ride, but if we were there with no wait and time to kill we would. However, the 2 above? Not if Walt himself were on the attraction with us!

My advise would be to buy some Disney planning books or go on YouTube and watch some videos on the attractions YOU think your family might be interested in.

The problem you will have listening to other people is you might miss something that YOUR family loves just because you listened to someone else. For every 50 people who hate a particular attraction/restaurant there will be another 50 people that love it. :)

My biggest advice is BE FLEXIBLE. While planning is now critical for a Disney trip it is also just as important to deviate from that plan if at the time your family wants to do something else.

Enjoy your first trip!

I could not agree with this more. I always stayed away from the 3d movie venues because I thought I did not come to Disney to sit a movie theater and you never heard much hype about them. I do not know it was just never appealing to me.

Then last year we got a fast passes for space mountain and the machine gave us a bonus fast pass for Mickey's Philharmagic and we decided to give it a try. I was never really even aware of what it was exactly. WE LOVED IT!!!

We then proceeded to go to it two more times. My 4 year old Daughter loved it too. We also loved the muppet 3d at HS. So, I really think you need to try things and learn about them because you will be surprised what one person does not like could be your favorite. Highly recommend the Mickey's Philharnagic by the way and rarely a big line. :thumbsup2

I liked TT before they updated it. When we went on after the update we were like what happened

Advice for a first timers.... DON'T SKIP ANYTHING!
Skipping rides or attractions is for the second trip!
The only disclaimer is if you need to avoid heights, spinning, etc.

I absolutely agree with this! Everyone has different likes, so find yours on your own! As far as what WE skip... Great Movie Ride and Tiki Birds... both attractions just bore us to tears, but YOU may love them, so go find out!

I agree with these posters, don't skip anything. You have a variety of people in your party, each of them will have a different likes and dislikes. The kids will probably enjoy rides that you think are boring and vice versa. Also, I think one other poster mentioned, there are height restrictions on some rides, so your DD4 will probably not be able to experience those rides. But the Rider Switch is a good option for those who are tall enough.

I am in the don't skip crowd with several disclaimers.
You know your children. Are they scared of the dark, loud noises, thrill rides etc? IF so then many of the PP mention rides that would fall in that category.
Next does your family plan to do everything together? If so with a 4 yo, you can most likely rule out RNRC, Primeval Whirl (48 inches) and likely Expedition Everest, Space Mountain (44 inches). At 40 inches there would be a laundry list of rides that you would rule out.
Bottomline, you know your family. What one family likes another one might not so try everything once and after a day or two you will be able to tell what to change in your plans if necassary.

I agree with those why say first timers shouldn't skip....however...

Epcot - I can't stand the Ellen ride. Very long and boring.

MK - Stitch, Tiki birds, and Country Bears

AK - the whole Dinoland area. Younger kids might like it but mine are over it (DD11 and DD7)

DHS - Tower of Terror (I'm the only one who skips) because I don't like the drop. I did it when it first opened and haven't been on it since.

Wow, three of my favorites. That Mission Space makes you feel claustrophobic is hilariously ironic.

Do you understand claustrophobia lol? You are in a tight space and can't get out....that's what claustrophobia is...you don't feel in control of being able to GET OUT if you want. I see video's of that ride and get short of breath. No way...no how would I ever go on that.

I think it's funny that people skip the carpets because they are the same as Dumbo. We love the Carpets (me and my college DD's) and while we don't wait in line for it...we do love to ride it when we can. We usually skip Dumbo because for some reason...it's not as fun as the carpets. Maybe it's that camel that you have to avoid on the Carpets lol.
